Hi there, I enjoyed your reaction. This is a unique version of the song because Bono is performing as Mr. MacPhisto, which is an alter ego that he took on for the Zoo TV tour. From what I recall MacPhisto was supposed to be some kind of mix between the devil and a washed up rock star.
u2's live performances are amazing. I saw 4 times in Barcelona in diferents tours and this song in every concert it's one of the most emotional moments.
U2 is AWESOME but U2 live is on a level on its own!!! I prefer them live❤
Dani i witnessed this concert live in Dublin it was just epic anyway you have to react to " love is Blindness" from the same show it will give you chills trust me

This song was delivered like a work of art . I have been able to see them perform twice in 1987 and 2006 i think it was , both concerts were wonderful.

I love this performance - but i have to point out - there is literally no way that someone of my generation, if they didn't know why (as per comment below) - wouldn't have commented on the way Bono is dressed. I love the way the younger generation just accepts it and concentrates on the performance - it makes me have hope for the future. I guess, what I'm saying is, excellent work Dani!

The Joshua Tree was written lyrically by Bono specifically for & about America. Bono was so adept & brilliant lyrically, that he he could write songs with a surface meaning & a deeper more macro meaning as well. While this song is written in a person to person context, it is also a song written by the world to America. Bono is a outright genius & Poet Laureate for a generation.
Hey Dani. Thanks for the hard work you put in. I hadn't realized you did this way back when even though I was subscribed then. Had I seen it, I'd do as I'm doing now and I'd recommend you check out another--still very personal--side of Bono by watching the 2015 Paris show of *October/Bullet the Blue Sky.* They always put on great stage shows and that piece speaks to Bono's youth. CBC's Q podcast recently did a great interview with him.
