    I’ve said this before in comments, I’d love to see multi-biome planets introduced. They should be somewhat rare and rather than adding them to the game in a way that would change planets that already have bases, they should identify planets that haven’t yet been discovered and re-seed a fraction of those. Then we’d have new discoveries without losing what we’ve created.

    Some of my favorite planets from before NEXT were animal-less lush worlds. They were so beautiful, but so eerie in their emptiness. It made me wonder if there were every animals here, and if so what happened to them. It was just so beautiful and sad at the same time
    Also I think I great way for them to do gas giants is to
    Give us either floating island worlds, or worlds where you never leave your ship but there’s tons of floating rocks, flora, and fauna. Maybe they could even add floating in atmosphere structures too. Like I think gas giants, while they would be cool, need to have something more to offer than just looking cool and I really believe adding new floating islands and animals and structures would really help give gas giants a proper place

    • @vrabo3026
      @vrabo3026 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I really want the floating islands idea. There's land, there's underwater.. and this would be a whole new kind of thing to navigate, especially if it was something crazy like islands being able to collide into each other, leaving you and your ship to float around and you can use your jetpack to get around.

      Maybe gas giants could be used for collecting refinable gaseous forms of different materials and materials that are already gas. The devs could introduce a floating foundation and landing pad that you deploy from your ship so you can land.

    • @MoorganHart
      @MoorganHart ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure how logical it would be to add animals and plants, floating asteroid-like rocks sounds more reasonable though, and perhaps a ship upgrade for gas harvesting that's faster than the current options. Adding in a ship busting plasma core along with increased planetary gravity would add a level of challenge to it as well.

    • @UrFriendlyHoax

      Literally exactly what I was thinking they should do with gas giants

  • @DamonCzanik
    @DamonCzanik ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Completely agree. Own both, and I love certain things about each one. If you fanboy out and only limit yourself to one or the other you're missing out. In SC, now ships don't just explode they'll become disabled and lose gravity. So you can play pirate, board a ship, kill the crew and take the cargo. Or, defend your ship from boarders (like the opening scene in Star Wars).
    Zero-G EVA space walking is so cool. I love manually repairing the external structure of my ship, shutting off satellites, exploring a wreck, boarding a ship or engaging in zero-G combat.
    Gas giants are amazing. The floating city of Orison is the most beautiful area I've seen in a game, period. The clouds at sunset is amazing. And biomes on planets make it feel like a real planet. NMS planets variety is amazing but it does feel samey after a while. You seen one point on a planet you've seen pretty much the whole planet.
    Both are great games. But both can learn from the other while still feeling unique.

  • @antoinequestiaux417
    @antoinequestiaux417 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You are right ! Almost all of the planets in NMS are plenty of life and its kinda "bad" ... I love that game but I feel that exploring is still a bit boring sometimes... I need a more diversified fauna and flora, rock planets, desert... Everything in the game seems to be alive in abundance, but in such a gigantic universe you need more "dead" planets, which will make the exploration more varied and somehow a bit more realistic. I really need that in No Man's Sky

  • @DarkroseV5
    @DarkroseV5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I agree with all of these, and would like to add my own brainstorms.
    Regarding Dungeons: On planet yes, with different types as you suggested with unique loot only found in these planetry dungeons.
    Regarding Ships. Rebel Galaxy had a great mechanic where a separate shield negated all damage as a button was held down with a long recharge. Hauler's would be great fro these.
    Regarding planets. This is why I love exploring dead planets. That sense of loneliness and isolation, not all planets need life. This merges well with an earlier idea you mentioned where caves could have abundant minerals.

  • @collenjones5813

    I like these ideas! Maybe as far as Haulers are concerned, if they can't have more inventory space, maybe they could be like your freighter have a higher stack size for items. So even though the inventory slots could be even with say an explorer or fighter, the inventory space* would be much higher

  • @caseygimblet492

    I know this is said before but I would love to build my own starship (depending on the ship type you're looking for), you can buy many different body parts from space stations even illegal ship parts from space pirate hideouts; each one randomly different on each star system. They can range from seven parts; Fuselage, Wings, Engine, Decal, Paint job, Ship's HUD, and Weapons (maybe for the cosmetic aspect). And with a bit of personal customization, you could tweak the ship's design to suit your look... Want the wings to look more swept? Rotate it forward or backward. Want the wings and/or Engine angled; A simple rotation up or down could help that... I think this would give the player something to chase. A dream ship of their own making.
    Oh, and not to make the pre-generated starships useless, they can buy the pre-generated ships and design them to their liking. I also thought of another thing... What if someone finds a crashed ship with a cool-looking Fuselage, Wing, Engine, Decal, Paint job, Ship HUD, or Weapons part? They should have the ability to take that crashed ship to their Freighter to have them "Chop" Harvest the parts and sell the rest. This would encourage the players to explore more and be rewarded for it. When I play NMS, I like to call myself a "Scrapper" because I look for downed satellites and the very thought of this... actually makes me wanna get out there and do more of that. XD

    So many good points I could write a book on, but I will try to be concise.
    5. Maybe as a compromise you could only space walk during certain space encounters when there is a reason to, or tether the player to their ship to limit their range.
    4. I'd like to see gas giants if they added a new game play mechanic and a way to record them as discovered. If it was up to me (probably a good thing its not) I would have used the living frigate assets to make fauna for a gas giant biome and make settlements a floating cloud city. Regrettably, I have to concede trying to shoe horn them in this late in the process would be very difficult and might require re-rolling all planets.
    3. More dungeons and cave overhaul would be an awesome update. There could be a certain type of dungeon that is more combat focused (raid the nest of the horrors on an infested planet) and others that are puzzled focused (switch puzzles, find the passwords, find the pieces of the broken lock). Maybe these can tie back to the scrap dealer, maybe make it a salvage guide that hands out missions.
    2. My favorite ship is my fan wing hauler. Its the only ship I spent a notable amount of time searching for. I feel like it got nerfed when cargo was reworked which mildly annoys me. Each ship wold have a set of specialized tech that gives is special abilities. Same thing for Exo Craft that cold really use another update. I am also mildly annoyed by the seemly large portion of uses who want an "all of the above" option for everything. There are not enough hard chooses in the game which is actually part of the reason why it sometimes feel "shallow" or "Hollow" Pushing for ship specializations with some limited chooses (you can add A or B to this ship but not both) could go a long way to improve this, but the peanut gallery will scream.
    1. Planet generation tends to create repetitive terrain. Walking in any given direction is like walking across a sin wave with some signal noise. I'd like to see more clearly defined mountain ranges, valleys, and plains. This would then allow those areas to have different subsets of flora, fauna, and mineral assets. Regrettably, I have to concede doing this would require re-rolling planets which will blow up all existing bases. I don't think we need multi biomes in the sense of arctic, temperate, and tropic areas on the same planet. This would actually make planets more samey by reducing the number of planet types. Instead of having 30-ish planet types you would have 5-ish planet types with ~6 biomes each.

    I'm a huge fan of both games and personally think NMS ship combat is more of a power check than a fair fight; I still like that NMS has a more arcade focus and don't want it to get too overcomplicated. My solution is to add strafing (the right stick on gamepad is mostly unused) and make shields recharge slower (still taking more sodium/batteries when you're hit but recharging slowly), this way combat isn't just a sodium bidding war with discount coupons called upgrades.

  • @Diachron

  • @trademarkshelton

    I think a good compromise for walk-around-able starship interiors would be to spruce up the interiors of frigates. Variegate the interiors a little bit, and for the love of Atlas, put some NPCs on those things--given that they're said to be fully crewed, the fact that they're always empty is a little disappointing and frankly kind of creepy. (I can give a pass to my one frigate that says its "crewed by ghosts." That one being empty makes sense.)

  • @Pejatube
    @Pejatube ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @Kanayu you absolutely nailed it with the need of empty landscapes. If I miss one thing in NMS is the dynamics of opposites like loud/quiet, full/empty, bright/dark. Universe is so much packed with stuff that it's almost unbearable. You jump into the unknown system, never discovered before and all of the sudden there are 5 planets around you, space station, full fucking fleets of ships warping on your location, mining ships join you in asteroid fields, pirate attacks you in forgotten temples, you do 0.1 dmg to some structure and you have endless waves of interceptors pursuing you into infinity...

  • @themadman5615
    @themadman5615 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Honestly, adding gas giants to the game would be an amazing decision, and it could play incredibly well into the more specialized ships idea. But to start they could add in a technology and upgrades that allow for "scooping" hydrogen from the atmospheres of said giants, but make it to where staying in the atmosphere for too long could result in critical damage to your ship. But to offset that you could have a specialized scoop ship that can last in the atmosphere for longer, and go deeper to get more exotic fuels. It would be an amazing addition I'm sure, and all the possibilities that could come of it would make the game so much better in my opinion. Thought doesn't mean I don't think the game is absolutely amazing as it is, but it can still improve.
    Oh, and by hydrogen I mean all isotopes, not just protium, deuterium, or tritium, but all three. Not all at the same efficiency or rates, and certain technology modules could make one isotope get scooped more efficiently, but you'd get all three. And the exotic fuels could be used for more efficient refueling devices, like the warp hypercore requiring something only found deep within the gas giants, ie metallic hydrogen. I could go on and on, but that would take hours. But the point being, there is so much that could come from gas giants being added, and I'd love to see how they would do it.

    At what point do HG consider a sequel? I feel NMS is hampered by ageing hardware. A fresh game without those limitations, with everything HG have learned (mostly the hard way) and with some new ideas, they could make something that finally gives them the recognition they deserve after the disaster NMS was upon release. I still have people who won't even consider touching the game because of those early days, no matter how much I praise what HG have accomplished. Anyway, just a thought...maybe a video on the pros and cons of a sequel could garner some interest? :)

    I also never shut up about more dungeons. They could be vital for overhauling the story missions and allow for new puzzle and giant/boss fight mechanics. And they'd give more value to places of interest & encounters.

    Most of these things would require a good re-work of code and a galaxy reboot. The last one, NEXT, essentially changed some of the art style of the game, so I believe to make landscapes as gorgeous as those they need to change it again, not entirely, but the current style of No Man's Sky is way more focused in the Alien Storybook/Comicbooks design, where it feels like someone is paiting that, so there's a feel of creativity in NMS, Start Citizen feels more realistic, like a Final Fantasy XV map for example. I don't think they need to abandon the NMS design, but to make landscapes that feel less like a fairy tail painting, they need to change the artistic style to make a few stuff more realistic.
    Frankly, I doubt they would do that. But I agree, the way NMS creates terrain feels random, there's barely an open flat space anymore, and most of the designs are foreign to us. At this point, I don't think Hello Games want to make a REstart of the Galaxy again, even if I'm ok with one.

    • @Kanaju
      @Kanaju  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd be happy with another reset, but I know plenty of people would hate it. And I agree that gas giants and updated biomes would require a rework of code, I actually think space walking, planetary dungeons, and starship specialization could be supported in the current version of the game. Sentinel Pillars and Settlements demonstrated the game's ability to add new POIs without a reset. Starship stats and inventory have been changed independently of their visuals multiple times over the years. The tricky one would be space walking, but swimming controls could be used as a base. They would need to code in a bunch of interactions with existing space objects, plus add a "call ship" button for space, but I don't think it would be as dramatic of a rework as one might expect. Of course, I could be 100% wrong, since I don't have the source code in front of me. lol

    I think a small interior for some of the ships would be awesome and would not be so hard to create for example a few metre corridor opening outside door and could be a specialized slot for some other equipment. Some of the ships in no mans sky are big enough to have these kind of upgrades. Of cource fighters and other ships with little space cant have interior so it would add more difference for the ships how you want

    • @niobiumblu6990
      @niobiumblu6990 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Really, the ships just need a small design change to look like they have hatch doors and entry ladders. Make every ship, landing pad (not entry points since you just need a change of FOV/POV) and make the half to double the size. Then add some details to interiors.

    • @Cholin3947

      Even the hauler is not big enough for that. Hauler hulk is about half the width of a corridor. Even the small shop inside a hollowed out hauler in the outlaw station isn't really inside, it sticks out both sides. Ships would need to be rescaled at least 3x for even a small interior which would add much game play.

    We need city planets, per lore they exist, there simply not in the game at minimum we need colossal dead cities, we also need traversable ships much like SC but not as elaborate for the sake of landing on landing platforms, similar to the cargo ship on pirate stations, that would do or maybe like the one from Outer Wilds. As for Star Citizen that game actually needs alien animal life on at least some of there worlds, and the Oceans should be traversable. Epic video nonetheless! :)

    Imo, they'd do a lot better if every planet had TWO biome tags, not one, at random.
    Dead- 1/2 each per each tag
    Scorched, Frozen, Toxic, Irradiated- 1/9 chance each
    Lush- 1/18 chance (also would not have hot storms by default).
    Marsh, Volcanic, Barren, Infested etc worlds could be sub-variations of the above.
    A planet would be a mix of it's tags- lush/scorched could be a burning jungle, frozen/toxic could be a noxious muskeg, irradiated/dead could be a blasted wasteland. The flora, fauna, weather, colours, and minerals would be selected randomly from each tag.
    The most common worlds would be Dead/Dead, then Dead/(S/F/T/I), then mixed elements, the elemental and Lush, with true Lush/Lush Paradise planets being very rare.
    It'd increase both vertical (amount of life on each planet) and horizontal (differences between each planet) variation, without ever needing to add new assets.

    But i don't see the point in complicating the starship, sure when you're late in the game and have everything you want, I could see the desire for specialized ships, but a lot of people try this game out on game pass and give up when they have a hard time fighting the environment to find the elements they need to get their space Honda off their first planet.
    So while starship specialities would be cool, I think it would deter new players.

    idk about you, but I find dead planets with low gravity quite often. Some anomalous planets are devoid of life, often not having a simple animal(or having that single animal extinct).
    But we do need more massive-landscapes, like larger deserts and stuff, not a cactus every meter of the way.

    I'm very down with your ideas on the spaceships! We can collect them, give us reasons to! Also, the spacewalk idea is cool, but I think it should be limited. I fell off a freighter and died with no grave when I didn't know that could happen, and I couldn't get back up to a place to get back into the freighter. If we could do short spacewalks I probably could have.

    I think that you could say the same for the other way around. Having to wait 10 minutes just to fly to a single location sucks when you could just pulse your way there in 10 secconds in no mans sky. Ship combat is also annoyingly complex in star citizen when in no mans sky it is easy to learn, and difficult to master.

    From the mentioned Elite:Dangerous I miss in NMS having planet with different gravitation. Is in E:D I like how it changes the travel on planet - on low gravity one player can fly above ground with using of jetpack and land more safely. On normal gravity planet player has to be careful with jetpack. And high gravity planets - there even just landing is challenge itself.
    In fact, in No man's sky I enjoyed already the low gravity of the dead planets. But unfortunetaly, there is usually no reason to go there, aside of collecting alien eggs.

      Would love if each planet had its own gravitational pull. Moons should have a lower pull and super planets should make travel on foot a challenge.
      What custom difficulty showed us is that the game can be heavily customized, so we could get the default arcade mode and a simulation mode that feels more real. With different gravity and atmosphere density to planet rotation and such.

    Major problem with NMS engine is that it MUST work on Nin10do Switch also, so your forced to abide by the stats of the switch compared to the other systems. The Switch device was a BAD move for this game. you won't be seeing Star Citizen or Starfield on a switch...
    This was the biggest mistake HelloGames have ever done
    There are mods that make the PC version so much more than the standard, but with the amount of updates this games gets, these mods go out of version fast.
    So other than graphics/engine limitations they now have SIZE to worry about also due to limitations of switch hardware.

    I've never understood the desire for spacewalking and still don't. Gas Giants would be awesome and I have wondered why they are not in the game for years but with out a complete rework for the crafting system any rare resources added would be a complete waste. The other suggestions all sound useful for their own points. I have never played or seen game play of Star Citizen but some thing I would like I already pointed towards is a revamp of the crafting system at the moment it is little more than another way to make money. Food was a nice add but it really doesn't do any thing if you never use it either. I just feel like there is so much potential in things you could *make* and *use* . Self defense Turrets that you could set up to secure your base from sentinel, Alien, and Pirate attacks. Upgrades that could use better and better materials or better things we can use that use things already in the game like the Stasis Device.

    Honestly, I think some gaps in the world is required. Spacing out fauna and flora makes the game much more wonderful, and allows discovery of lifeforms to be much more special
    Furthermore, as a veteran, I remember when the land had large loops and curved bridges and smooth tower mountains. Those really gave some specialness to the environment. I think mising the new and old landspace of No Man's Sky brings a balance of beauty, finding isolation in the worlds and connection via life and death.

    #5 & #4: 100%. #3: Although I already consider the caves in NMS to be planetary dungeons, it's true that they are not very dangerous or anything.
    The occasional clusters of eggs and increasing the chance for underground predators and such would indeed improve the experience. I like that there are caves that are just caves too, but the variety of added danger as a possibility would be great. Especially when there's already loot in caves.
    #2: Meh. #1: Eh... I have seen tons of worlds that have low flora and fauna.
    I guess the main difference you mentioned is to have regions of the planet carry more or less rather than an even distribution throughout, but that's the same kind of change as adding planetary biomes. They do have fauna that only appear in certain regions already though, and they definitely could expand on that. I'd still like to see planetary biomes and temperature ranges based on angle of rotation, time of year, et cetera.
    While adding planetary biomes would be an overhaul, they already have the angle of rotation and such programmed in to affect the time of day differently in different parts of a planet. So it would just take adding a formula based on that to affect the temperature in different regions. That would be a subtle but awesome improvement, and could later be expanded by programming in automatic biome changes based on consistent temperatures.

    I figured out you can space walk on your frigate fleet that surrounds your frigate, but if you try to go outside the freighter base you quickly lose all your life support and die. Walking around on the frigates surprised me, I was expecting to just clip through it. I would like to see more things in space that can be walked on though, like maybe walk around on an asteroid, but the gravity might be too low for something of that size.

    This is my "wish-list" for NMS, not really Star Citizen related.
    1. More planet types.
    NMS has quite a bit of planet types, but as someone who explored a lot of them and found pretty much any biome, not many strike any interest for me. Maybe one that's just crystals? or just glass that's reflective?
    2. Space Station interior variety
    It'd be a very interesting but decently sized change. Space stations have different appearances on the outside, but nothing really changes. Maybe just three/four which vary depending on the dominant race?
    3. Better fauna farming/creature farming
    The current animal farming system lacks a lot of interesting features. I would really like to see something like putting your pets into an animal pen, and harvesting products.
    That's just my little ramble :) NMS is very large, and I know it's probably hard to code so much for such a big game, but I really want another refresher. And happy early easter/valentines day.

    All points are quite smart ideas. Good video! The idea of different spaceships is one of my favorites. In my opinion, they are like the planets: One is enough, if you visited one, you have seen them all. Of course, it's not exactly like that, but it's pretty close. And why not introduce a medium class of ships, something we use for a special mission? In that case we can have something like in Star citizen. A spaceship that would have several rooms and a hangar for one of the ships we have, and the mission would determine which ship to take, without the option to change it during the mission, which would make sense for there to be differences between them. Also on another great topic: I would like to land on different planets. It pretty much all are the same, that killed my desire to search for planets in the game. They are all the same. And I thought, there are more types of planets at first. I would like to go to one that is like Mars; another which is like a titan covered with heavy water or a gas giant, and some with great atmosphere full with life. Why not a brown dwarf that, if it lures you into its atmosphere, can crush you... Don’t get me wrong I get that this sound like is not an easy task. But trust me it will make the game unbelievably beautiful and explorable. In the end this is what we want, right?

    I think a good next step for Hello Games would be a more sim oriented version of NMS.
    Maybe not fully sim like FS 2020 or DCS, but more realistic than the arcadey cartoony game of the current No Mans Sky.
    Space the planets out more and make travel take longer. Make the ships bigger and let you walk around in them. (with friends) Maybe add some multicrew features like turrets or engineering stations. Go with a more realistic color pallet and bigger settlements.
    They've already got a very good basis to build on and going a bit more sim oriented would allow them more access to the markets currently occupied by Elite and Star Citizen.

    maybe this is the Milsim player in me, but I'd like to see more shooter mechanics added to No Man's Sky to make the combat a bit more engaging. I think being able to fight humanoid enemies would be really cool. to follow up with the planetary dungeons point, wouldn't it be awesome if you found a Vy'keen pirate outpost and had to fight through a group of equals with shields, health, conventional firearms and jetpacks, just like you. i think being able to fight pirates outside of gameplay and maybe even developing pirate factions with different motivations and goals (one pirate faction per species?) would really enhance the combat side of No Man's Sky.

    Multiplayer needs a dedicated servers so streamline the lags from different persons and make the multiplayer more stable. Relying on a peer-to-peer connection will always be bad, because a person with bad computer and internet will always lag, and if it happens to be the host, almost nothing works in the game properly. Half the packages are lost, some base parts are not streamed because of that.
    With dedicated servers for the game will be much easier to stream content between players, make proper parties (and hopefully guilds). So much potential here.,,.

    If i am honest by comparison star citizen should learn stuff from no man's sky. Like the fact that they often break a lot with each update and spend so much time fixing it that they barely have time to get stuff the fandom wants since they only added ships that don't have any function yet in the game that also have elements brought into the game but aren't fixed at all like the elevators in ships like the redeemer where the player since that ship was out still has phisics problems.
    Another thing sc should learn from nms is ship controlling knowing leaving the port is so much complicated and there is no tutorial to speak off.
    And let's not forget the 30.000 player limit in a server wich still hasn't really been expanded upon or making a bit smoother experience instead of just crashing when that limit has been reached.
