Hi, can I ask, are these guys particularly shy? Do you use a heater?

Like all Apistogrammas they are a bit shy off reproduction time.
Yes I use a heater for maintain the water at 24⁰, mainly in Winter.
The Borellis don't need, don't like, to much heat.

@@PlantedTankPT with them being shy, do they then hide a lot? The reason I ask is I'm looking to replace 3 of the most shy platys ever! Want to get something with more character that we see more regularly. I also have heard it a few times that the borelli dont require a heater. Any experience of this? My tank is a consistent 20c

They don't need heater in countries with a more warm environment. Like south america.
22-24 is ideally for this species.
      They aren't to shy.
Just provide enough plants for them to build there territory and you always see them on the aquarium. When accustomed to the space they don't usually hide to much. They're cichlids, predators.

@@PlantedTankPT thank you for your advice. They look like a great fish. I've got a 100l tall planted aquarium. A couple would probably be best?

@@battmyne yes it's always best to have a couple to could see all there behavior in full.
They do, really nice to see some reproduction behavior.
      Enjoy them!
