    Love your contribution to the community. One thing that would enhance the show is sharing some of your work during the show. It does not need to be award winning set of photos. I went Iceland a few years ago with my Q and could not be happier. Good luck with good weather in Iceland as you may have the best and the worst of the weather in a 24 hr period.

    I just wanted to say thank you from the UK for making this content. The knowledge and passion you have for the Leica system shines through. The Leica m system , for me, is just incredible and a pleasure to use. There is never a perfect system but more the perfect system for your objective. Fortunately there is so much choice. I am currently enjoying the M10M with a 90mm to get that compression. Keep up the fantastic work!

    Hello Josh and David from Amsterdam, thank you for your enthusiastic reviews of Leica gear. Funny that David mentioned the combination of the M-Camera with one lens combination. My visit to New York in 2019 i did the same. The whole trip with just the 35 mm FLE, i never missed an other lens.

  • @richarddenise3886

    I took my M10M with the 35/1.4 FLE to NYC today !!! - around Gramercy Park. I di lug the 75 Noct. and the 18/3.8 but did not take them out of my bag. I did use the SL2 with the 35/2 APO SL mostly, I live outside of NYC, so it wasn't like taking a trip to Iceland with you guys - that and Patagonia are definitely on my bucket list !

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! The 18 SE and 75 Noct are fantastic lenses, no doubt, but sometimes you gotta keep it simple with the 35 Lux!

    Overall, great show in helping cut through some of the complicated decision making which plagues even the most experienced. It was very useful here to define “simple” at the “get go” as the equipment best suited to a particular situation or task (hence tying in from “it depends”) and offering real and thoughtful examples of possible kit arrangements, etc. In answer to the very, very last question: the M10M and the 35mm F2 Apo Asph with a B&W 090 filter. All good!

    I always look forward to your videos, and this one doesn't disappoint. Thanks to everyone involved. Hope you guys have (or had) fun in Iceland.
    I do have one small nitpick: at about 38:30, you bring up focal length and compression. Well, I have to object. Focal length has zero effect on compression. I repeat: zero effect. Now, not knowing this fact isn't the end of the world, but is a categorically false statement.
    FWIW you're in good company. More than a few photographers get this one wrong, as well as a few Hollywood cinematographers, too, surprisingly.
    P.S.
    Q. What does simplicity mean?
    A. It depends!

    For keeping it simple with the M10, why do you use the rather big 35 FLE and not a smaller F2 lens?
    I used to have a Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 iii as my main lens (similar size like FLE) but found it such a relief to use the much smaller 40mm/f2 Summicron-C on a recent trip to Venice.

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 35 Lux really isn't that much larger than the Cron. Both are great lenses. We just give the edge to the Lux as it's just a bit more flexible, both creatively and in different lighting situations.

    Since Mr. Farkas mentioned the audio enthusiasim of his, I just wanted to say that I very much appreciate the attention to detail in these streams. The quality of everything, including audio, is excellent, and the content is free.
    About purchasing items from Leica Store Miami. I'd love to support the content you produce by purchasing through you, when I can't source certain Leica gear locally. In regards of that, does Leica Store Miami sell and ship to Finland?
    And as a final point I'd like to make my usual request for a Leica Visoflex tele lenses episode. The analog gear related (like Visoflex III), not the modern electronic Visoflex. I know this is probably never happening, but a man can hope. ;)

      Really appreciate the appreciation! We're constantly working on improving ever aspect of production even if it's not necessary or what "everyone else does." Still haven't seen anyone else on TH-cam livestream in full 4K. They probably know better. :)
      As far as shipping Internationally, yes, Leica Store Miami ships globally. All international orders over 3000 USD ship for free via UPS International Express Saver.

    I would like to know, max 2000gr for Bodies and lenses. What would you take?
    Maybe you can keep that question in mind for another episode?
    Would be very interesting for me, because that‘s the way how I am setting up my gear for landscape(max. 2500gr) or street(max 1300gr.) or for a two week roundtrip with landscape, street and architecture(max. 2700gr.) or weekend trip (1800gr.).

    Love your show! I'm a prospective Leica M owner trying to find out as much as I can before pulling that rather large trigger. One question, I use 2.50 readers. I notice both Josh and David wear glasses. Will I need a diopter? How is the manual focus without readers? Possible? Thanks much!

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The most important thing to know here is that the viewfinder on the M is projected at a distance of 2m or 6 feet. So, your reading glasses prescription isn't what you need. Best to figure out your necessary correction at 2m then go from there. If you only need glasses to read and can see fine at 2m, then you should be fine with no diopter, or perhaps you just need a weaker correction like +1.

    since 35FLE is your most used most favorite lens for most of your shots, would you say the 35 apo MAY replace this in the near future?

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Possibly. Prior to switching to the 35 FLE, I used a 35 Cron ASPH and 50 Lux ASPH. After switching to the 35 FLE, I swapped the 50 Lux for the 50 APO. If moving to the 35 APO in the future, I think I would have to really think hard about pairing that up with the 50 Lux again, just to have some variety in look.

    Long time Sony shooter.. purchased a Leica q2. Was fun but the focus was frustrating. Would always miss focus, coming from the Sony with eye autofocus. Face detection could not get use to the q2 and sold it after 3 months. Was missing too many shots. Do you think I did not give it enough time or is the auto focus that bad?

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Q2's AF is generally very snappy. I'd suggest using AF-S (single) with single point field. Multifield and AF-C are meh IMHO. Like this episode suggests, simple is often better. I'd give it another shot. The Q2 is incredible!

    • @draughonc
      @draughonc ปีที่แล้ว

      This was a helpful comment for me. I’ve been considering an M or Q but not sure which since I also shoot Sony. Sounds like an M might be more appropriate for me since I’m looking for something completely different from what I already have.

  • @DanielNovaJr
    @DanielNovaJr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’d like to see you guys discuss how Leica glass renders on film and if it’s worth dropping thousands on, say, a Summilux FLE to shoot on an analog M; over a Summicron ASPH V1, considering the differences between the two are more substantial when mounted on a digital censor.

    Such a shame they’ve never updated the MATE. With the high ISO ability of the M11 it’s a superb one lens travel solution. A more modern version would be awesome.
    My typical travel M kit is a Voigtlander 21 f1.4, a Leica Apo 35 and a Leica Apo 75.

    @RedDotForum ... On the subject of gifting a Leica gifted to me I'd like to say that wouldn't happen in the real world, as would me being able to buy a Leica.
    Having said that I'm now the oener of an M6 Titanium due to winning one in a UK bssed Leica camera prize draw, and I still can't afford to mate it with a Leica lens, so I'm going go for a Voightlander 35mm f3.5 Color Skopar P II as my first lens due to my low budget.
    Great video as always 👍

    In terms of SL with zoom lens... I can keep my 5DIII with 24-70L lens. I'm a Canon CPS gold/gold member 😁. I see no progress. 24MP sensor, apperture of 2.8. Pls tell me yr arguments. I own a M2, M6, M8.2 Safari ans a M240 with several Leica 50mm, 28mm and 135mm. ....
    PS: I'm not a Lightroom fan. I like it most out of the box.Don't use LR. Only some Actions on PS CS3 (!!!).
    Besides of all: I realy like yr live sessions! Congrats! I follow you whenever I can.
    Ooh, nearly forgot my Leica IIIF 🙈
    Billingham... did you use it in a sudden torrential rain? I own the original Billingham for my M8.2. The only one which sustained a torrential, sudden rain was my Tenba. Ugly big and looked like a bag from the dino age. But it saved my equipment.
    Did not try the Billingham in such conditions 🙏🙏🙏

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Alright, I'm game. :)
      The SL2 offers many advantages over the 5DIII. Without going into all of them, here's the highlights:
      - 47MP sensor with no AA/low-pass filter (Canon uses aggressive AA smoothing)
      - In body image stabilization (game changer with 5 stops of effective stabilization)
      - L-Mount compatibility with M, R, S, TL glass natively and many other lenses including Canon EF via 3-rd party adapters (all image stabilized)
      - 5.76 MP EyeRes EVF offering WYSIWYG composition, exposure, WB, etc. No lag, no delay, ability to zoom to 100% instantly
      - Intuitive UI, both in touchscreen menu system and easily assignable FN buttons to access settings without menu
      - All-metal weather-sealed body that's built like a tank
      The 24-90 SL compared to the 24-70 L isn't even close. The 24-90 offers *Leica* prime lens quality at every focal length and aperture setting. It is the best standard zoom we've ever used. Also solid metal construction with full weather sealing. Canon lenses feel plasticky and toy-like next to it.
      Our of camera results are excellent from the SL, but best results from any camera will always be with shooting in RAW. LR presets make the process even easier.
