I like to relax and troll at SL10 sometimes just to vibe check low levels without the sweat. I don't even twink wither as I use gear from highwall and settlement. It enrages twinks all the time and I love it. The only headache mainly comes from the infinite blues, summon lag, and unscaleds.

also the always-backpedaling players are annoying, esp. when they know enough to space reasonably well, and they just want to whiff punish. I find spears work pretty well against guys like that, curious if anyone has a better approach.

Might be a "no duh" answer but aggression with just about any fast weapon. Personally I don't think spears are ideal for this since even good spear play is relatively easy to backpedal. Fast curved swords, estoc, corvian, etc. should take care of them, because those types of player who are only comfortable hanging back typically do so because they melt to any solid aggression with good fundamentals.

@@mowzermowzer7765 it depends. Some players backpedal bc they have no idea what they're doing. Some do it though because they just want to whiff punish all the time (note at around 42:00 that's what this host was doing, at least at first).
Fast weapons are great but when you're chasing somebody down, and they're hitting you with turn & burns, fast weapons can be challenging. That's why I like the spear - good aggression, good running attacks, but most importantly, you can attack outside of their t&b range.

@@iamamish I haven't playec in a while, and perhaps I'm not experienced enough to say right or wrong, in fact now that I think spear is probably a good choice for this, at the least for a player like in the timestamp.
But here's what I'd do personally,
Pull out pkcs. Play it fairly passive and wait for one punish on a whiff or something similar. Once I get him in stunlock i agress. If he starts panic rolling simply rollcatch until he gets out, he'll run to heal, and try his t&b with his r1 spam. I notice he starts spamming r1 fairly carelessly on his t&bs after Jee takes out the murky for aggression. I'd probably attempt an unequip parry on that, but his connection might get me killed for that. If I get the burst damage and a good wakeup/rollcatch that could be the end of him. Otherwise I'm a pretty good swapper who typically takes on a quality build, I usually have twin princes on, or the rkss. Swap to twin princes WA fast enough is a good ranged option to keep somebody on their toes if they're backpedaling, and rkss R1 WA has good range and damage, which youd could attempt to use rkss cancel afterward to aggress him.

Tbh, higher level pvp is just whiff punishing in its entirety. Can't blame someone for just going for that but yes I agree it is annoying and I usually just wanna have a badass fight but nope... it has to be ganks or just running away most of the fight

@@jamessauls7533 in its entirety? Can't agree with that. Watch top players play - top players against worse players are VERY aggressive. Top players vs. each other? There is a mixture of aggression and defense. If you only look to whiff pun, and your opponent realizes it, you're giving your opponent license to mercilessly run you down, since you're not going to attack.

Now instead of reds going for parries, gankers do it because you can't punish their whiffs as much as a red's whiffs can be

by bad netcode you cant even 3rd hit parry everyone, just dedicated ping ppl, was different back then, also backswings exist to avoid getting parried even if you spam R1
