I find these old films both fascinating and sad at the same time, especially the weddings, as many of these happy couples are no longer with us. These films capture a time in this country when everything was so much more relaxed and traditional.
the couple viewing their new house on this building site are taking their life in their hands crossing that minefield of building materials and precariously stacked scaffold boards!

The films do seem to offer quite a unique and personal perspective on times gone by as opposed to more mainstream media from the time

Could this be Pontefract or perhaps Knottingley, with a view out the window to Ferrybridge Power Station? It’s my best guess after a little detective work on the Internet, and assuming the ‘window scene’ is from the same town. You might want to check out a TH-cam video entitled ‘The Air Up There - Pontefract’ for some drone footage. And if you think your film might be from that part of the world you could always contact the Pontefract and Castleford Express or the Wakefield Express.

I’d like to know why/how these films are discarded? my family have loads of cine films of weddings, bdays Xmas etc. though they have been sat for a while couldn’t think of just binning them or giving them away. I suppose it’s mostly deceased estates ?

I’m also guessing they come from house clearances mostly. Not everyone realises what they are when they throw them away

Hi Dave, I've got about a dozen plus reels of mostly super 8 from maybe late 60s early 70s that my Dad took e.g he he took film of Gatwick when the only building there was the Beehive. I have watched them a few times over the years as the original projector still works. The plan is to digitise and edit (with enhancement), but not sure how best to start the process. Looking at your films I'm trying to work out if you're filming the projection on one of those 90deg mirror setups, or something more exotic. Any pointers would be gratefully received. Happy to share the final product with you for your channel.

I work for a new home builder. It’s crazy with the strict health and safety regs we have nowadays how people were just able to wander around building sites freely back in those days! No PPE no site induction, no accompaniment.
