Our son was in the USMC and deployed to Afghanistan when this song came out. His second tour of duty was Iraq. And it didn't matter where I was or what I was doing when this song came on all I could do was cry. When you watch your baby boy get on a bus heading off to an airport where he'll board a plane that'll take him to a war zone it will break you and not just your heart. I spent most of my time on my knees praying. If I was some place where I couldn't get on my knees I prayed anyway. Nick was my only son and I wasn't going to give him up without a fight. But this fight I fought on my knees. He returned safely after Iraq to twin baby boys of his own who were born seven days after he left for his second and last tour. To God be all the glory.
Beautiful story thank him for his service for me ❤️ and I'm so so glad he came home to you safe!!! Bless him for helping keep our country what it is and bless God for bringing a beautiful person back to their babies!! ❤❤️❤️❤️ I only have one daughter but I could never imagine. Thank you as well for your pain so he could fight for us. 🖤❤️
My sincerest thanks to all those that have served and are currently serving. You put your lives on the line and I can rest easy at night knowing that. Thank you.
Still miss the marine I met over 25 years ago. Was the time of my life. You USA 🇺🇸 girls are so lucky. Miss you Ohio boy, your Aussie girl will never forget. 🐨💗.
Evan Richley Hey he lives in Ashtabula. I don’t know where anything is over in Ohio. What a nice offer. You’ve put tears in my eyes. His name is Michael Scott Williams. Would love to know that he’s ok.
As an American soldier I know how inspiring it is to get a letter from back home, this song brings tears to my eyes, because I know how it hurts to wait, not knowing if anyone will write you, and the fact that you know nothing about what is going on at home.
My father was in the Air Force and this song is very true. He was always excited to receive letters from me and my mom. He said even in Desert Storm, those letters brought him some joy and hope. God bless to our troops in every branch of service, those who have, had and will, we thank you for your bravery.
My brother is on his third tour in Afghanistan. This song represents everything that's great about Country music--it chokes me up every time. "Mama sindz er best yawl"
I remember standing in the Arlington National Cemetery. I was overwhelmed, humbled and thankful for all the men and women who gave their all for us. God bless America and all who served. Let's never forget them. And may God continue to bless this great Nation.
One of the best songs I've ever heard. Thank you all you veterans for your service. We the people love and thank you for our freedom.... May God bless you in your life!
few things in the world can bring that strong hard headed old bastard you've known all your life and reduce him to tears. this song is one of those few things.
Thank you Marine for all you do for the security of this great nation. My dad was a Marine and you all have my respect for the sacrifice you and for your family's make. Semper Fi!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
What can nearly 300 people not like about this song/singer. Absolutely brilliant, I can 'see' the letter writer. I was in the RAF & looked forward to 'Letters from home'.
My mom played this when I was too little to understand the words. I was going through my old boot camp letters form years ago, and it started playing through my head randomly. I instantly googled the words I was remembering. And here I am.
My son is currently serving in japan and i really miss him so much and im so proud of him and im also proud to be his mom i love you son stay safe 💙💙💙💙
True love is when you only pay attention to the word honey instead of the good parts. Thank you service men and women and to all who are served or just got back, welcome home.
coming from an american soldier, letters are what makes our days go by just a little bit easier. i have 104 days left till i get to go home. and hearing from my loved ones gives me the motivation to keep going.
I seriously hear this song every single time my husband goes out on underways or deployment. ~Navy wife. It brings tears to my husbands eyes every time he hears this song.
My dad never served in the military. But with that being said, every time I've listened to this song since he passed last month it brings me to tears. He was constantly at war with himself. So am I. But the part when he says "Son you make me proud." Hits me like a damn sledge hammer. I'd give anything in the world just to hear him say that one more time. I love you dad. Rest in peace.
Beautiful song I just want to say thank you for all the female and male soldiers that sacrifice their lives for us and this great country I love you guys my dad and my grandpa and my uncles served in the military god bless you all and god bless this country
My soldier just deployed yesterday to Kuwait for a year. I'll miss my man like crazy. These men and women all have such an important impact on our American lives. So, pray for them all. I'll be praying for my soldier every single day. I love you.
lost someone close to me in a no win situation called Afghanistan. I listen to this song a reminds me of the good times I had with my best friend. I always looked up to him gods got a special place in heaven for Marines.
Did you think calling it a no win situation was a moral booster? One day you will grow up and understand that regardless of the situation our troops get orders and they follow them. If you don't like it, then run for office. Other wise shut the fuck up.
@@kenkarish826 his friend supported the cause to give him the freedom to say how he feels. You need to grow up and understand what it is to lose someone that gave their all and respect their feelings and RIGHT so say what they feel. How about you not be a keyboard Warrior and be compassionate for once in your life..
@@shopshop817 If I thought a friend died in a no win situation (Which actually happened in Beirut bombing) I would not put his friends in a situation where they thought they were not backed up by the country that had sent them there. You hold your tongue and tell them how proud you are that they are protecting us. To take morale away from a soldier is tantamount to treason in my eyes. Example: Vietnam. We lost 50,000 soldiers because they lost morale and just didn't give two shits anymore I know I had family that fought and were spit on when they came home. So I don't care what you think of my compassion when you should be questioning Bryan's compassion for the guys who served with his friend that are still fighting. How do you think they feel hearing this from your own countrymen? Defeated maybe?
@@kenkarish826 if you would not have put them in that situation the run for office and make a change as your stated. Like I said. Keyboard warrior......thank you for making my point.
My boyfriend just left for basic today to become a Marine in active duty.. It's so hard for me. I can't stop crying. But we listed to this song all the time before he left so this song gives me a little comfort.
I love my Marine more then life itself. Hes in boot right now and gets shipped out in a few months. This song really hits home hard. Proud of all of our troupes, especially the Marines. Come home soon honey. Im so proud of you. A few more days till youre letters supposed to be here. Semper fi
Even if after you sign up and you get easy duty, the fact that you're willing to sign your right to a normal life away to protect your family and country means more than words can say. I'm thankful for those who did sign, I'm thankful for your service. In a perfect world, I wish you all would make it home without a scratch. I'm saddened when people are angry at the military, at the soldiers who are fighting to protect this country. It isn't the soldiers we should be angry at, if there's anyone to be angry at it isn't the ones who had to follow orders.
My 3rd son is in the Navy and stationed in japan ........ It's been tough for his mom and brothers and I try to make it easy for them but somewhere deep it has for me .,........ Thanks for the song to remind me of how proud I am of him
I don't get how people can disrespect the troops, they're risking their lives for us. 100% Support to all troops. And a big thanks to all veterans and current serving troops, Aswell as the ones who will become them. THANK YOU
3:15 makes me cry every time I hear that line. My entire life has been to prove to my mom that I can be something, that I can be someone. It took me 20 years and now I am entering the Marines, and for the first time in my life, my mother is proud of me. When I told her that I was going to enlist she cried. She didn't tell me she was proud, but I can tell she is. I hope that others can experience the emotions that I am feeling now, and that this song will last through the ages, as a reminder

My husband is a vet and although we don't always agree on things, there is one thing I will always be thankful that he fought for MY COUNTRY AND HIS. He was willing to give his life to make this country safe for everyone.
Navy veteran here with a track record of owning karaoke night every now and then. Started singing this to myself one day while on duty and the boys started overhearing it. With tears in some of their eyes, they politely asked me to stop and sing something else. This one hits hard. God Bless all who served and still serve. God, please, especially bless those who didn't make it back home.
My boyfriend is in the military and I dread the day he ever gets deployed. But I know he is doing it for all the right reasons. I back him up in ever decision he makes. He holds me up at my worst times and I hold him up when he needs it. I love u babe♥ Today, tomorrow, forever and always.♥
Its a scary thought. And people think its an easy think to go through but in all reality, us as military significant others we have the hardest job. We wait months for our loved ones to come home. We always are dreading that phone call or knock on the door. Do me a favor and tell your boyfriend I said thank you.
Reading all the comments and listening to the song. Sheds a few tears.. My dad was a vet from the airforce, died of natural causes 5yrs ago.. But my heart goes out to all of you in the comments
My boyfriend is in the army right now.. He just left to go back today and this is really truly hard.. I am bawling my eyes out. I just need him back in my arms. I keep rereading this one letter i have from him..
Happy Vieterans Day! If you see a person in uniform, or know a veteran. Go up and shake their hand and say "thank you" They'll appreciate it. My mom is a veteran, and so is my uncle. And my brother... he went to Afganistan and never came back. I never got to write him a letter, I miss him so much. This song brings tears to my eyes each time I play it.
My cousin was just deployed to afghanistan for the 3rd time about a month ago and my aunt got a letter yesterday saying hes not coming home... I love you so much DJ! Thank you soo much for everything you did!
I kept all the letters I received when I was overseas. My father passed away 3 years ago in memorial day so the father part in this song always reminds me of him. Love this song.
I have said good bye to mine 4 times now and I'll be praying for you. He's alright and he's a Captain now at Pendleton. Getting ready for the next time. God bless him and you. He's in good company!
Saw JMM in concert. 2 thumbs up. This song is powerful and reminds me of my 1st naval duty after boot camp and A-school, assigned to the USS Cape Cod AD-43. AKA, part of the loveboat class of destroy tenders. Haha This was March 1991 during Desert Storm. My ship already being in Bahrain Saudi Arabia, meant a total of 19-22 hours in the sky. Being in a foreign country during wartime, My insides were twisted up in knots. And I lost my grandpa the 1st week there so it was turmoil for me. The first few days with each "Chief" I incorrectly saluted, I asked myself what have I done? So the song reminds me of that scary difficult time and how a letter from anyone was GOLD! Letters from home was my slap in the face to think positive and push forward to sunny SanDiego.......
My brother introduced me to this song. He's going into the marines soon, I'm so scared for him, but to be honest, I couldn't be prouder of anyone else.
My mom came in my room last night and i was crying to this song.. I told her, before when i listened to songs like this and other army songs, never really got to me, till you have people in your life you love, and you know there out there, it then has more meaning to it..
thank you. you make this country proud and help keep it protected. i wish you the best of luck and hope you get to come home and see your family soon. i said it before and ill say it again. thank you very much
Absolutely love this song .. As a veteran, I remember those letters especially when stationed overseas this before cell phones... But this song is so well worded and so well sung .. Awesome
One thing I’ll give you Americans, you’re so patriotic. Your flag flies high in nearly every yard. In Australia 🇦🇺 you might pass 100 homes before you see our flag. Kinda sad ☹️. God bless all of you serving, keep safe yours and ours.
My cousin played this on Christmas at dinner, hes a marine has been for at least a decade now. Im now listening to the lyrics. Gives me goosebumps! Those of you who have loved ones in the service, take 10-20 minutes to write them a letter. It what gets them drivin on
I want to follow in my father and my uncle's footsteps and join with the Army. I know I have the right reasons. I just don't know about being away from my family that long... I still love this song.
Sent a letter to my brother twice a month when he was in Afghanistan, when he got home he told me that every time he read my letters he would almost cry. I never thought a brave man like him could ever cry. God bless America, and God bless our troops
I would like to say thanks for taking the time to post this song for us to enjoy. Those of you who contribute to our freedom, I would like to say thankyou. Hope you are all home with your families for the holidays!!
The last letter i got from my cousin in the army before we passed wasthe worst. He wasen't in the marines but thats what i'm going to try to join. Thank you to all those who survived, fought, and died for this country! hope to join y'all soon!
I am a navy veteran of 25 years and this songs says it all . . those letters from home were all we had to keep our sanity at times . . . mail call was always the highlight of our day/week
my dad and brother are both in the army and in Afghanistan currently, i send them letters almost everyday from home, i miss them so much but i know that when they get home they always say how much the appreciated them. i am enrolling in the army in July to follow in their footsteps and my mom is leaving in March for her 4th tour. i respect all soldiers, marines and the airforce so much, its because of our troops we have free a country, you guys are the real heros in this world
Good luck devil pup, i been in the corps few years now and i can tell you that you'll never be more proud of yourself and your family will be just as proud. I will never forget my graduation. Just remember its totally worth the hell you go through pup
I was in the military for 4 years kid and in that time I saw 3 tours and held my best friend in my arms as he died, I think its great that our youth are serving and all but to make that decision you need to know without a doubt that this is something that you want to do. I is a hard as hell life. If you do go over there make sure you don't try to be a hero, hero's die. Keep your head down and make sure you trust the man or woman to your right and left, protect them as they protect you and you will live to see the next day.
I know the feeling because I am a soldiers girlfriend and I remember when he went in it was the day I had my chemo treatment done and now I am cancer free
My brothers bestfirend playing this song everytime he come over to my house but now my brother and his firend is going back over seas it was like yetersday they came homd love you guys love Ur truly dani ♡♥
I remember the letters my dad sent to us, and all of his phone calls. All of the letters and calls from home really are what keep these men and women going over seas. Continue to support the Armed Services, and God Bless America, and its soldiers
To the American Soldiers. It has been an honor to fight along side you in Afghanistan. You are good friends, disciplined warriors, and tough as iron. To Sergeant Lynnwood, where ever you are in this world. You are more than a friend to me, you saved my live. You are like a brother to me now. Stay Safe. - A Croatian Soldier

Fantastic song. Very moving. God Bless the US Military!
I kept all the letters I received when I was overseas. My father passed away 3 years ago in memorial day so the father part in this song always reminds me of him. Love this song.
Love the song it really tells you how it feels to miss some one you love
I have said good bye to mine 4 times now and I'll be praying for you. He's alright and he's a Captain now at Pendleton. Getting ready for the next time. God bless him and you. He's in good company!
Still listening 2019💕💕💕
Sir, I salute you. Thank you for serving/in service of our country. God bless America and the Armed Forces!
This is a motivational song !Great and True!#Respect# To all those have served! I'm thinking of going into the Air Force!
Susanna Holcombe good luck to your brother
If he wants it then he will earn it. Just like we did
My mom came in my room last night and i was crying to this song.. I told her, before when i listened to songs like this and other army songs, never really got to me, till you have people in your life you love, and you know there out there, it then has more meaning to it..
Thanks to all the people serving in our military be safe where ever you are in this world and get back home!
thank you. you make this country proud and help keep it protected. i wish you the best of luck and hope you get to come home and see your family soon. i said it before and ill say it again. thank you very much
Love this song, reminds me of my dad and my uncle.
Absolutely love this song .. As a veteran, I remember those letters especially when stationed overseas this before cell phones... But this song is so well worded and so well sung .. Awesome
'pick up my gun and get back to work'... powerful line..!!!

Tears every time. Such a good song. God bless our soldiers..
I'm a U.S. 19 Delta an this song takes me home
I am joining the United States Marine Corps very soon and this song keeps me reminded of my goal

I cry every time I listen to this song
Same bro
Heard this song a million times an never fails to give me chills.
I'm enlisting in the Army in November on my 17th birthday. I'll be listening to this song everyday.
I'm enlisting at the same time
Lizzy Thomason thank you
I'm with ya man, see ya there. My friends call me airborne fool 😆 but I'm goin and jumpin. HUAH!!
You enlisted yet? (;
Thank you and God Bless you and your boy. Camp Pendleton is where my boy is.
Girlfriend of a soldier ......waiting always loyal....32 more days until hes home
I know the feeling because I am a soldiers girlfriend and I remember when he went in it was the day I had my chemo treatment done and now I am cancer free
Everyone always wants to thank the service members but they dont realize that they have family who sacrifice as well. Thank you for standing by him.

I remember the letters my dad sent to us, and all of his phone calls. All of the letters and calls from home really are what keep these men and women going over seas. Continue to support the Armed Services, and God Bless America, and its soldiers
I absolutely love this song !!! :)
He just returned safely home. If I could go over their and serve as 14 I would. Also thank you Sgt. for your service! Greatly appreciated..
Rest in peace our fallen angel; Stanley Guy Hagy; we're always thinking of you lovely.💕
Thanks for showing me Jamey Johnson. I'm not a big country fan but I really like his music. You made my morning when I looked up some of his songs.
My dad sent me this song through text and he ain't even military but he did it to say he's proud of me. LOVE YOU DAD
I think of a friend that just left into the Marines. I listen to this song every day, I think about him each and every time... miss you Kyle
Love this song and I can relate to it, being in the military
thank you for serving on/off the battlefield. You are one of many of America's heroes
The first time I heard this song I had tears in my eyes. It is definitely one of my all time faves
I'm going to be going into the Army soon, and this helps motivate me. Wish me luck!
+Michael Edmunds good luck you!
I'd wait and go in as an officer
George Edmonds I'm hardly going to be a grunt.
+Michael Edmunds you say like being enlisted is a bad thing
+Paul Marriner No? If I thought it was a bad thing, I wouldn't have signed up.
This song is great but when I here the end it makes me think of my father and I am 23 years old and here never once heard my father said he is proud of me. Damn things just touch your heart. Even a few small words dad
"Son you make me proud"
That where I lose it.
Veteran here and your not the only one...
Served and now 3 of my sons are Marines. The youngest one is active and is deployed in a rough area.
