"tis better all of us die in this place than even one of us get out" shale i SWEAR, i will drag you to the surface if i have to. not happening on my watch, no sir-ee. seriously though, i really adore this series. i don't doubt there'll be some sort of tragedy in its ending but my god, the king will kill shale without hesitation if he stays behind after helping the listener escape. i'm also starting to see why the king is so jealous - shale isn't exactly being subtle about his feelings when the listener negotiates to see his drawings! speaking of subtle, i love the world building with shale unable to really imagine just going to school to learn to draw - we haven't seen much of this setting outside of whatever palace the listener is confined to, and it's so deeply telling. i'm still lowkey wondering about shale's motives, since even he admitted the listener should he suspicious, and whether it is just that selfish affection he mentioned or his apparent self-hatred for his people (which that quote sums up neatly) is playing into both his feelings for the listener and his desire for them to escape.
There has been a sense of desperation throughout this series, and it's been incredibly addictive to listen to the story. Our escape is going to get ugly, there's no two ways about it.

Plot wise maybe he just wrote how to get the fuck out… It’s interesting that the King still lets Shale guard us considering he’s waiting for them to touch us as a reasonable reason to kill him. I wonder if he’s watching
I accidentally read it as " streches you". Can we have a character that takes physical health very seriously and coaches the listener who makes poor health choices?
I haven’t listened to the audio yet, but why am I actually rooting for therax and listener? Like I actually kinda love them..? Idk, maybe it’s just my red flag colorblindness Edit: I actually made a head cannon of this series where shale ends up to be the bad guy the whole time and ends up kidnapping the listener away

If this series has to end, we deserve an epic finale. Have a fight between the King and Shale then have Shale spirit the bride away to safety
