    Thanks Liron, Please realize that we learn so much from these basics. I really use your instruction to guide my daily practice. I hope you will not get burnt out from all your sharing - you are a natural teacher and I believe you’re on your way to being one of the great masters.

      Thank you so much ^_^
      Sometimes it's easy to forget what the basics even are. So whenever I suddenly remember - I also try to make a vid about it at some point.
      I'll do my best to not get burnt out (:

    In my opinion, mastering these basic techniques is one of the main things that makes your paintings look clean and professional. But they are often overlooked because we prefer to paint a picture instead of learning how to put color on the paper correctly first.

      True! (:

    It would be really nice if you did a painting using all these techniques. ^^ The video is very helpful but it would be even better if you showed what you can do with these techniques in a painting.

      Happy you found this one helpful 😊 I’m actually utilizing all of these in pretty much every painting demo I share here 😉 But I may do a demo where it’s more obvious and better explained (:

    Hi Liron. As a beginner I really appreciate your lesson in the basics. Water control is so difficult at first isn't it? I managed to paint a successful wash for the first time this week and that was such a wonderful moment for me as a total beginner. I love your style of painting and really enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing so much of your knowledge with us.

      @@LironYan Thank you, but to be honest, you are the person I learned it from. From watching you and trying out what you said, I just did what you said in an older video, and after quite a few failed attempts, I finally managed it. I have not had much time for painting as my life is very full on almost all the time, but what I have learned dorectly from you, really helped me make that wash correctly after quite z few tries! Now I want to try graduated washes and see how well I do at it. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun. Putting paint on paper usually is! Thanks again. You are a total star!

    Hi Liron. I found your channel over the weekend and spent several hours watching your videos. I have learned so much. You're a great teacher and I like that your not afraid to take chances and learn new things too. But your style is really amazing and I have already improved. I have a lot of medical issues and chronic pain and I had not dome much art for years. My family and Fri encouraged me to paint again and I am so glad they did. And thank you for helping me. Improve.

    That was a great hint. I like to do wet on wet, but I would keep adding watered down paint to add darkness. I never thought to come in with a higher concentration of paint……Duh……Then I’d have to wait until it dried to add more pigment.This is why I will always consider myself a student of the process. Thank you, Liron.

    I use soft squirrel brushes, and it is tricky to dry brush with them (especially with diluted paint). I found that you can do fairly nice dry brushing with a wet squirrel brush if you twist the bristles around the brush and move the brush sideways. It might ruin the brush in the long run, but mine is fine for over a year and hold the tip perfectly well.
    Lifting with a different color is fun (I make the tip almost dry after loading it with concentrated paint, and then I can lift and color the area at the same time.

    When you do the dry brush technique I cringe when I see you bend the bristles at a 90 degree angle. ;)
    I don't come from a watercolour background, but years ago I was a sign-writer (yes, painted from price tickets to billboards etc. before laser printing and vinyl-cut lettering became the norm), and my teacher would go nuts at anyone who put that amount of downward pressure onto a brush. I now have to go look at videos of other watercolorists to see whether there are differences between different types of painting & mediums and how you're supposed to hold/control a brush.
    [Edit: I am still using the same #12 Kolinsky Sable brush I bought as a student (cost two week's rent 40 years ao) and it's still perfect. The wood handle is a bit chewed up though ;) ]

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha yes I could see why it would seems scary, depending on your past experience 😂
      I find this way to be helpful at times, in order to produce that effect. But everyone's different so find out what works for you (;
      And it's amazing your brush is still perfectly functional! Despite me going a little crazy - mine also still work perfect (only 5 years but still).

    Hey Liron
    Was your paper horizontal or slightly vertical ? The way colors blend on the number 3 wet on wet makes me think your paper was sligthly vertical...

  • @tziporaneemanfeder1813
    @tziporaneemanfeder1813 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Liron, this is great. Question: I see mixed opinions on whether your board should be tilted. [ about 45 degrees ] or flat. What do you do? Thanks, Tzipora

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You got it ^_^
      This really depends on how much downwards flow you want (:
      I find that a little tilt goes a long way.
      But perhaps when painting in larger sizes (like really large - 1/2 sheet and above), having a slightly larger tilt could be beneficial for having a clearer and easier to handle bead.
      But it really depends on what YOU enjoy more. Try out different tilts and see what works best for you 😊

    I always notice how you hold your brush from the very end. Is there any "technical" reason why you do this, or is it just a habit? I tried to do the same, but it doesn't work for me as I have less control on where the brush goes. :-/

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It will depend on my mood (:
      Sometimes I want to feel looser and increase my ease of range of motion (which isn't possible when holding the brush really close to the bristles).
      But sometimes when I need more control - I may hold it closer to the bristles (:
