Shy M true. Joe was not a great father in many ways, as most of us whom know about Michael know. It was sad, & probably why Michael didn’t want to grow up as an adult or was child-like. The Jackson 5 use to have a cartoon on Saturday mornings when I was a kid. Also saw them in concert in philly for their Victory tour. It was awesome!! People were dancing in the aisles, singing, loved every minute of it.
Tito Jackson is on Guitar on the left. Jackie Jackson is the super tall one in the middle. Jermaine Jackson is on Bass on the right. Marlon Jackson is between Tito and Jackie and of course, you know Michael. At one point in life, Jermaine Left the group and he was replaced by the youngest brother Randy Jackson. There are 3 sisters Latoya, Rebe (pronounced Ree-Bee), and Janet.
One of the most iconic bands in history that produced a true legend- Michael Jackson, the King Of Pop! Tito, Randy, Jermaine and Marlon were Michael's brothers, his fathers name was Joe Jackson ;)
I used to watch The Jackson 5ive show after my nap when I was 2. I feel lucky that I was alive for that. I also went to the Jackson Reunion tour. Love them.
Berry Gordy signed the Jackson Five to Motown and was instrumental in getting Michael to open up and become the star. Dad Joe who was very abusive and domineering was very jealous of Gordy's influence over the boys and got them to leave Motown. Jermaine, the bass player, was married to Berry's daughter and refused to leave, and Gordy owned the name Jackson Five, so they got little brother Randy to join and changed their name to the Jacksons. That's why during the Victory reunion tour there were six of them, because both Jermaine and Randy were with them.
Technically he didn’t own them.. because if he DID he would have stopped them from singing their old songs. Like he did to Florence Ballard from the supremes. Jermaine actually didn’t want to leave Motown because he felt it was home and how they got their start... because hazel Gordy told him basically that business is business and she would be with him regardless.
I am about the same age as MJ. I can tell you that almost every black kid and young person had that look. The J5 had a breakfast cereal commercial and they had an animated Saturday morning Cartoon
I can remember (vaguely, I was very young) when Alpha Bits cereal had a box with a real working Jackson Five flexi music disc on the back panel - you could cut out the disc from the cardboard box and play it on your record player. But I have to say, I don't remember a lot of kids walking around looking like the Jackson's in that video - I could be wrong, though!
Not trying to be mean but this guy is asking us for information when he can Google it himself. He thought Tito was their father's name?😆 I think he's pulling our leg.
My first love in 5 th grade , Michael Jackson ❤️ The Jackson 5 were Fire!🔥 with young Michael as lead singer, what greatness! their music is still relevant today along with Michael’s music, it will live on forever! Rest In Peace Beautiful Michael! I love you !
I was born about the same time that Michael was. He was about 10 when all of this started. and, you're right, it was obvious back then that he was very talented. I remember my mom saying "God help that child when he grows up. He is not getting to have a childhood." He did pay a price for that and tried to recapture some of what he missed. (For example, he built his own amusement park on his property.) He once said that he is most comfortable on stage and would sleep on stage if he could. Very talented people often suffer because they don't fit into the world the way the rest of us do. He was certainly one of them.
Maaaaaaaan! When they started dropping these singles, they LIT UP THE CHARTS!! The other thing was you felt so proud as a black person that they were so popular with everyone :) This group help us feel good about ourselves coming out of all the upheaval of the Civil Rights Movement era. People just wanted to have a good time!
I see this is old, but had to say I don't think I'll ever get tired of listening to J5. I'm a year younger than MJ. I had posters of the Jackson 5 in my room lol What a musical genius & yet what a sad life he had. See, money doesn't buy happiness 😢. What a music genius.
from left to right; Tito; Marlon; Jackie; Michael and Jermaine. Later on their younger brother Randy joined them when he was older sometimes. MJ...fantastic. Many have mentioned watching him sing Who's Loving You. I can only find it on Ed Sullivan's show and it's with a few more of their songs. Fantastic performed by Michael. btw, their Mother, Katherine made many of their stage costumes.
A brilliant dance tune of theirs, when they were older, is Blame it on the Boogie. Also, please have a listen to Kenny Thomas - Outstanding. Smooth and soulful, gorgeous music.
Guitar: Tito Jackson (Joe was the name of their father) Bass: Jermaine Jackson Vocals (Center): Jackie Jackson Vocals (Left): Marlon Jackson Lead Vocals (Right): Michael Jackson A few years later, Randy Jackson was added on Auxiliary percussion (specifically Bongos) and then a full replacement for Jermaine when he left in 1975. After 1975, they signed to CBS record, ditching Motown, and changed their name to The Jacksons. Jermaine married the Motown CEO's daughter so he stayed with them. Michael officially went solo in 1972 but he really broke away in 1979, but didn't officially leave the band until 1984.
Yes. I've watched the movie and documentaries of the Jacksons. Their father was into music and michael's brother tito kept playing with his fathers guitar without him knowing. His father gave him a old fashion butt whoopin when he found out but then realized that his son's had talent when it came to music and he put the group together and kept pushing them to perform. They didn't have normal childhood's
ok - I love the J5 and Michael is the king - BUT - neither of the two Jacksons are actually playing the guitar - the guitar and bass are being mimed to the Wrecking Crew (the world famous studio musicians who backed everyone in Motown and countless others)
@Maiden Watkins They LEARNED to play their instruments - just like the Monkees eventually did (yes, I know that they could play but for instance Mickey was not a drummer before the show) - but when they started out they did NOT play live - it was all pretend playing with backing tracks to the Wrecking Crew. Yes, they did learn - but they sure weren't playing here.
@@jamesrawlins735 😆 You hear how many chords the rhythm guitar is playing but all I see is Tito playing that Ab octave riff When I saw the Victory Tour back in 84' at least Jermaine was playing but damn Tito had his guitar slung to his side most of the concert while the other guitarist done most of the work, I know the bass on the recording is by Wilton Felder the saxophonist for the jazz group The Crusaders.
The J5 hit America like a hurricane ! They had three consecutive number one singles on their first album. And it was obvious even then that Michael was something special. If you watch old interviews from this period, he's even more charming and funny than in his Moonwalking period. I wasn't surprised that he hit so big in 1983, because I remembered how big he hit in 1969. When Rolling Stone did their first '100 best singles of all time' list in the early 80's, "I Want You Back" came in at number two, second only to "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and just ahead of "Satisfaction". By that time I'd pretty much forgotten just how good it was, so I pulled out my old single, blew off all the dust, and cranked it up. It wasn't great, it was even better ! I sure has hell haven't forgotten it since.
Michael was only about a year older than me. I so loved watching the Jackson 5, when I was so very young. I was amazed that a child my age could do what he did. You should check out the videos of when they began. Michael was younger than this.
Remember the reaction you did to Diana Ross? She's the one who "discovered" them after little Michael walked up to her and sang one of her own songs to her. She fell in love and helped the boys start their career.
They were discovered by Gladys Knight. She send a tape over to Motown, but were rejected. A year latter Bobby Taylor took them to Motown to meet Gordon (who had rejected them earlier) and they were signed within a year. NO Diana Ross.
@@sergioalexisadasme136 that's true. Just because diana was huge they asked her to introduce them for publicity. She had nothing to do with getting them into Motown
@@andreadeamon6419 Correct. That "Diana Ross discovered them" story was totally made up by Motown publicists and P.R. people. Diana's career needed a boost about that time as well. And it also shows how poorly regarded Gladys Knight was by the Motown people.
no diana didn't not discover jackson 5 they had been brought to the attention of motown through gladys knight. then barry gordy had diana introduce them to the world. they had been introduced to james brown 1st but he felt they need to be older
Their Dad, Joe Jackson, was terribly abusive. He was beyond "strict." He didn't tolerate anything less than pure perfection. A horrible man, in my opinion. GREAT reaction.
He was so abusive that Michael is the only son that said he was. Tito even said himself “I like the way my daddy raised me, I raised my son the same way” and Jermaine and them said he wasn’t abusive 😂😂
If Joe Jackson hadn't pushed the boys the way he did, the world would have never heard of the Jackson 5. The road to success was hard and the odds were against them. They weren't getting television time like the Osmonds were every week and or a Vegas venue like Wayne Newton. The Chitlin Circuit they performed through was largely ignored by the mainstream media (with a few exceptions) while they perfected their stage act in the '60s. Since people continue to give Joe Jackson a lot of $h!+ even though he is now cold in his grave, he deserves the praise for making them practice, practice, practice, because they had to be perfect in order to even be mentioned in the same breath as the Osmonds.
Joseph Jackson was the matriarch of the family. Jackie is the oldest brother, then Tito (far left on guitar), Jermaine (far right on guitar), Marlon, Michael, Randy (baby brother who joined the Jacksons after they left Motown while Jermaine stayed).
The Jacksons should be celebrated as truly the first family of music. The Jackson 5, Micheal, Janet and various other siblings combined have produced well over 100 Billboard Hot 100 hits. Not to mention the combined amount of album sales and royalties paid. No other musical family comes close and this will mostly likely never happen again.
This was voted by Rolling Stone Magazine as The Best Debut Record of all time that was released in 1969. This was from their Goin Back To Indiana Special around 1971. It was done by a Songwriting Team called The Corporation where one of the Members Alfonso "Fonce" Mizell is also a distant cousin of Jam Master Jay of Run DMC and The Ronettes (Be My Baby).
A few things: 1. The Jackson 5 in the early '70s were a HUGE. They were a bit of a teeny bopper/bubble gum group, but the difference between them and others in their lane is that songs like "I Want You Back", "ABC", and "I'll Be There" have had staying power, unlike other teen idol songs from that time. I mean, no one remembers songs by David Cassidy (who was also a huge bubble gum contemporary) but the Jackson 5 still gets airplay. It's good time, innocent, kiss-on-the-cheek music, but interesting in it's own way. Heck, just listen to the bass line in this song...it's a groove for the ages that doesn't get old. 2. There's a reason why MJ was the lead of the group and a future GOAT, even though he was the youngest of the brothers. Just look and listen to him in this video. He's already charismatic, smooth, and that voice...wow. The brothers can be a bit pitchy when they sing their parts, but Michael? Nope. Natural gifts, coupled with the tyrannical disciplinary rehearsal methods that his father demanded of him and the group, made MJ the diamond that he was. We all miss him. RIP Michael.
You spoke of Janet Jackson... there were also two more sisters, Maureen “Rebbie” Jackson and LaToya Jackson. There was brother Brandon, (who was born and died in 1957) and youngest brother Randy Jackson . A total of 10 children.
From left to right, you got Tito on bass, Marlon, Jackie, Michael, and Jermaine on guitar...Joe was the father. Later on their youngest brother, Randy, joined the group.
The first of 4 J5 songs to reach #1 on the Billboard charts in 1970alone (for a lot of bands, 4 #1 hits would be a solid career) - followed by "ABC," "The Love You Save," and "I'll Be There." All these are highly recommended in the comments with good reason. Great stuff!
Joe Jackson was the Dad of the Jackson 5. I read he was a very strict Dad , even though being strict he was responsible for them becoming superstars! And...Michael, the Greatest entertainer of the 20 th Century. Every knows that too!❤️
Joe Jackson was their father, Tito was one of the brothers. Who else remembers watching the Jackson Five cartoon on Saturday morning? Michael and his brothers travelling around the world getting into trouble and out while singing a song. It was a blast. Tito, Jermaine, Jackie, Marlon, and of course Michael were their names. For my request, The Devil Went Down to Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band.
Joseph and Kathleen Jackson (their parents) had nine living kids: Rebbie, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, LaToya, Marlon, Michael, Randy, and Janet. Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael were the Jackson 5. Later on, they would become the Jacksons when Jermaine leaves the group to become a solo artist. The initial group the Jacksons are Jackie, Tito, Marlon, Michael, and Randy. My favorite J5 track is Looking through the windows and there's a youtube video of them performing this in Paris that's excellent. PS they had a TV show variety show in the 70's you can look that up on youtube too.
Joe Jackson was the
Father. Tito is one of the brothers. Yes, he was strict and abusive.

I swear I wish these reaction channels would stop lying especially in the titles just for views. You had to be living under a rock if you don't know this.
"A dad named Tito"

Michael was so adorable and professional beyond his years!
ok, whew....so glad you know who Michael Jackson was. Had me worried there for a second.
The better question is "Who thought this kid could Moonwalk?" He freakin' moonwalked, man. Gotdam.
Turbo taught him
@@GaryTisdaleFungkSta1 Jeffery Daniels taught him
The Jackson 5 use to have a cartoon on Saturday mornings when I was a kid. Also saw them in concert in philly for their Victory tour. It was awesome!! People were dancing in the aisles, singing, loved every minute of it.
Michael Jackson- ""Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough""
Love watching you groove to this song. It’s the best.
WTW! How can anyone not know about he Jackson five?
Tito was the oldest brother, Joe was their father and yes he was a very tough dude....
Jacksons Five - "ABC"
I'm 14 and I know who the Jackson 5 are I grew up on music like that and now I know ten times more old music than any of my friends lol
Joe Cocker - With a Little Help From Your Friends

Joe Cocker Feelin' Alright, You Can Keep Your Hat On. Good Stuff.
@@ceeceedior21 Motown owed the nsme; Jackson 5
I am amazed that Michael’s look in this video didn’t catch on.
LOL. Looks like they're all wearing Kermit the Frog collars.
@@victorsixtythree If you're talking about the outfits, no
That was stage wear
The greatest entertainer of all time....Michael was at his best when he was performing with his brothers...one of a kind... All of them are legends
"Long train runnin"by The Doobie Brothers
Not trying to be mean but this guy is asking us for information when he can Google it himself. He thought Tito was their father's name?😆 I think he's pulling our leg.
OMG I had such a crush on Michael...I had his posters on my walls....sigh
My first love in 5 th grade , Michael Jackson ❤️ The Jackson 5 were Fire!🔥 with young Michael as lead singer, what greatness! their music is still relevant today along with Michael’s music, it will live on forever! Rest In Peace Beautiful Michael! I love you !
He stole the show the first time he ever stepped on the stage! You wouldn’t believe how popular this band was with everyone back then!
Oh! BTW ... I agree with everyone on "Who's Loving You" on the best J5 song but I always loved when Michael sang "Ben".
Joseph was the father, the brothers starting with the oldest to the youngest-- Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael.
Don't forget miss Janet.. she came later, but a star as well
The two sisters were Janet and Latoya. Not part of the Jackson 5 of course. But there was The Jacksons 5+1 later. Randy was the last to join
I was six when the J5 came on the scene. Even high school kids liked them because of the older brothers. They were the soundtrack of our lives really.
No we knew something special was happening.
Now we realize how blessed we were to grow up with him.
Michael Jackson - "Off the Wall"
I can feel it, and thank you for bumping the audio! I was entertained
Saw them in concert about this time at Louisiana Tech when I attended there. Who knew what a huge star this little boy would become
I see this is old, but had to say I don't think I'll ever get tired of listening to J5. I'm a year younger than MJ. I had posters of the Jackson 5 in my room lol What a musical genius & yet what a sad life he had. See, money doesn't buy happiness 😢.
What a music genius.
The Cowsills---Hair
from left to right; Tito; Marlon; Jackie; Michael and Jermaine.
This song is just a Classic! Everyone loves this and the Jackson 5. I was dancing along with you.
Guitar: Tito Jackson (Joe was the name of their father)
Bass: Jermaine Jackson
Vocals (Center): Jackie Jackson
Vocals (Left): Marlon Jackson
Lead Vocals (Right): Michael Jackson
A few years later, Randy Jackson was added on Auxiliary percussion (specifically Bongos) and then a full replacement for Jermaine when he left in 1975.
I had the biggest crush on Michael when I was a kid! He was only a few years older than me. I still feel it when I see these videos. 💖
My dad always loved the Jackson 5, but he died in 1980 and never got to see how great Michael became.
The production/recording on this is amazing. It just explodes out of the speakers.
Jermain, Jackie, Marlon, Michael and Tito on the Guitar!!!!
ok - I love the J5 and Michael is the king - BUT - neither of the two Jacksons are actually playing the guitar - the guitar and bass are being mimed to the Wrecking Crew (the world famous studio musicians who backed everyone in Motown and countless others)
Janet and Latoya were the sisters who had separate singing careers
@Maiden Watkins They LEARNED to play their instruments - just like the Monkees eventually did (yes, I know that they could play but for instance Mickey was not a drummer before the show) - but when they started out they did NOT play live - it was all pretend playing with backing tracks to the Wrecking Crew. Yes, they did learn - but they sure weren't playing here.
@@jamesrawlins735 😆 You hear how many chords the rhythm guitar is playing but all I see is Tito playing that Ab octave riff
When I saw the Victory Tour back in 84' at least Jermaine was playing but damn Tito had his guitar slung to his side most of the concert while the other guitarist done most of the work, I know the bass on the recording is by Wilton Felder the saxophonist for the jazz group The Crusaders.
@Maiden Watkins It was Tito who started messing with Joe's guitar
Actually it was Glady knight she saw them first and sent them too Motown , where they used Diana Ross n the tv to promote J5
no diana didn't not discover jackson 5 they had been brought to the attention of motown through gladys knight. then barry gordy had diana introduce them to the world. they had been introduced to james brown 1st but he felt they need to be older
Thanks for making me use my head to remember the words! Singing along. ❤️
The children of Joe Jackson contradict what you say...beyond strict? and just how would you know this?
The dad was Joe Jackson. Tito is one of Michael's brothers.
A few things:
Now THAT is pure Michael Jackson!!
The pay were massive - stratospheric. They quickly became a permanent part of the heavenly firmament.
I saw them live three times. They are the reason I started playing bass.
From left to right, you got Tito on bass, Marlon, Jackie, Michael, and Jermaine on guitar...Joe was the father. Later on their youngest brother, Randy, joined the group.
More Michael reactions please!!
Johnny Taylor's soul heaven or simply red holding back the years
The first of 4 J5 songs to reach #1 on the Billboard charts in 1970alone (for a lot of bands, 4 #1 hits would be a solid career) - followed by "ABC," "The Love You Save," and "I'll Be There." All these are highly recommended in the comments with good reason.
