yyxh (Love Game In Eastern Fantasy) is so fun! It's such a nice breath of fresh air. The pace is fast and there's a nice balance of comedy (I'm anticipating some angst in the later episodes). It's the perfect drama to watch when you want to de-stress after work/school.
LGIEF is really great and ticking all my boxes so far. Esther Yu is perfect for this roll and I truly can't think of another actress who would be better for this character. In fact the casting has all been great so far with each actor doing well. The story is funny and has tropes but still feels fresh and I can't wait to see what mess happens next. Yay! I'm so happy to have a good fun drama.
I m on episode 15 of FoF and really enjoying it. I like this kind of supernatural police dramas, how the story slowly gives more information about the world setting and life of the heroes. I usually watch Guo Jiming works because of its aesthetics and he dis not disappoint. The dark colors, great cgi and beautiful actors - just my cup of tea.
heavy at times, but it always breaks the darkness with some humor. Just enough to not ruin the story, but still a necessary light heartedness to make the sometimes heart-breaking stories bearable. I like how things that seemed so arbitrary at first, make sense later on in the story. The drama seems superficially set up at first, but the more the story unfolds the more it's made clear that it's not just an arbitrary set of characters thrown together. I'll be looking at some other works of Guo Jingming after this cause it's indeed beautiful. :)
I ve been following Guo Jiming works since Tiny Times (3 movies are amazing, the 4th is also well made, but heartbreaking), and I like this gloomy, a bit gothic pictures that he paints. Yes, the actors sometimes give this NPC feeling just because how beautiful they are, but I just know what to expect and I like what I see, I am not watching dramas for the plot or exploring social themes, I want to be enterntained. The director is a controversial figure and there is a lot of hate on him in Chinese internet.. but he follows this distinctive style that he makes the best of
I also found a way to enjoy FoF. Basically just don't expect anything from the story or the characters, just enjoy it for what it is worth: the faces, dresses, costumes, atmosphere and such.
I too am loving FofF. I am only on episode 4 and I already care about the characters plus their stories. The look, music, pacing and story are on fire. I am very pleased with this series; totally enjoying this world & the 4 main characters.

@@jaksable1 i think she have a hugee beef with guo jingming like she is always soo critical of his work. If it was done by another director i bet she wouldn't have been this critical. Like i get it he is very controversial but that doesn't mean he isn't a great artist!! He is the only director i know that have a very distinctive style which i respect a lot.
Now up to 6 main characters plus the super scary but cool villian. Also each story brings in characters to those sub plots. I am on episode 14 & I still love it. Maybe even more so because when I really like a series I start doling out to myself 1 episode a day. Like a treat.
I'm very looking forward to Esther Yu and Ding Xuxi drama. I have waited for a whole year. I agree with you about Ding Xuxi's hairstyle. Fit him so well and he looks so good. Best look I have ever seen of him. Love this drama styling.
No doubt about it, Ding Yuxi looks awesome in Love Game, but he looked sooooo good in Melody of Golden Age too - more mature - maybe even a bit heavier... still I liked it!
Pearl girl is impressing me so far, the underwater scenes surprised me and the darker themes etc I haven't seen in a while in cdrama land, the sets are really good
I like how they start with tsopg drama. It's been a long time since I enjoyed heavy and dark drama. And it's slow-burning and doesn't have any unnecessary dialogue. the opening dive scene alone is stunning! This cinematography visuals are so crisp and dreamy. Every shot feels like art in motion, and their acting just elevates it even more!
Fangs of Fortune has fun characters, but feels like the plot is an afterthought to facilitate the CPs' interaction. Love Game in Eastern Fantasy has a entertaining script, the type I like. I think it's going to be an enjoyable watch. Pearl Girl I wasn't expecting much, but the first ep wowed me. The production quality and cinematography was really excellent. The story was emotionally immersive and really got me invested in Zhao Lu Si's Duan Wu.
Caught 7 episodes of 永夜星河 and liking what I've seen. Plot premise (FL is dragged into a game based on the novel that FL has just slammed in a review, and has to complete missions set by the system) is refreshing and entertaining. Good change of pace from all the recent revenge/ family feud period dramas that dominated the TV screen over the last couple of months.
I am not a fan of visual perfection at all, I actually love natural imperfection. But Fangs of Fortune hooked me. Because it is not a glamorous photo shot, it is a dream drama. The whole drama is dedicated to the theme of sleep, dreams - the desire to stay inside a beautiful sweet dream, the price for this desire. The theme of unconsciousness and conscious will. And this theme that "in order to start living in reality, you need to die in a dream" is clearly the red thread of the drama. Therefore, the drama itself is not a classic story with classic narrative logic. This is a collective dream of the heroes, and it exists according to the laws of the dream
Having viewed numerous Chinese period dramas, l've seen a lot of those run of the mill kind of series. But The Story of Pearl Girl pilot episode, I firmly believe they merit recognition for their cinematic quality. It's unfortunate when others diminish this exceptional drama due to fandom. We should give credit where it's due, encouraging other drama producers to strive for similar excellence. All actors, trom leads to supporting cast, excel in their roles.
What cinematography 😂 the angles on the ML look like sh1t. His face is also missing lighr. Plus everything looks fake. Fake ocean, fake beach, fake trees, fake cave, fake sky, fake shark, everything is fake. Although I don't care for all this, people need to get some reality check!

I've watched LGIEF up to six episodes now and I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Yu Shuxin always does the 'Fish out of Water' comedy act well, and the CGI is suprisingly well done (which they actually mention in the series itself as the FL wondering how much money it would cost if it was on screen lol). A lighter watch which looks like it may go a little angsty later.
FOF is pure eye candy: only beautiful young people, and "esthetic" costumes, props, photo, sets : Bad or good, everyone is beautiful...not a single ugly, common, or aged face... I really like the upbeat song and dance at the end of each episode.
The two idol costume dramas benefit from eachother by their simultaneous broadcasting which is a good thing. Both look promising with good acting and lines As a complete work, I prefer the Love game
I would say The Double is the most entertaining drama in 2024 to-date.😊 Still waiting for The story of Pearl Girl to progress before deciding which drama is best for 2024.

I watched 6ep of TSOPG, been waiting for it for LYN. I like that they show DW story and background and her future development as a strong businesswoman. I just hope that the torture/training that YZJ will do to her wouldn't be viewed as "super" red flag that people will drop watching it. But i will finish it because I have been waiting for the leads 2nd collab.
Pearl Girl made me sob right in the beginning😭😭and honestly the CGI is really not bad like it’s actually quite good for Cdrama. But I’m literally so hooked on this drama.
Im on ep15 of TSOPG and it really hooked me.. It's really good, all the characters deliver well. I hope they can carry it until the end, and will not collapse like AJTL.

The whole drama around Zhou Yutong, Rong Zishan and Neo Hou in that variety show is the perfect example of why actors should stick to acting and not get involved in reality shows that reveal their true nature. I've really enjoyed both zhou and rong's acting in the past but now i don't think i can see them in the same way ever again

I didn't want to leave a comment under the Eastern Fantasy video as it wouldn't be fair to talk about a different drama there so I came back here. Because I think that the Pearl Girl deserves a video, too. I enjoy both shows, but if I had to pay a subscription to watch just one of them, that would be the Pearl Girl. Eastern Fantasy is a light watch after work, but Pearl Girl ticks almost all my boxes. And I the ZLS has grown leaps and bounds. I barely can notice some of her mannerisms that were quite obvious in the older dramas. Everything else is better in PG compared to EF. And I DO enjoy EF, too, but I find that it didn't go all the way where it wanted to go and that takes some of the excitement away.
I just watched the trailer for the Showa American Story game. Absolute insanity. I can’t wait. I’m not sure I own any type of platform it will be released on, but if I can get my hands on it, I will play it. If not, I’ll watch some let’s plays.
Thanks AvenueX! I finished the chapter 6 video. You have some great nuggets of information I really appreciate. That Chinese characters are energetically active/charged seems totally reasonable to me and so there is a process for disposing of them properly. I saw that in 三国 (2010) but again didn’t know what I was looking at. Sima Yi is at Cao Chong’s tomb mourning Cao Chong and someone comes up to mourn him with Sima Yi and the first thing they do is throw a book on the fire (really they went to pick Sima Yi’s brain but they used mourning as an excuse 😂). So the idea of burning a document to dispose of the characters properly now makes sense.
The bit that I'm really enjoying about Pearl Girl atm is the ship set, the bits that are filmed "onboard". The CGI of it on the water is dreadful but the lower decks are interesting, though a bit unrealistic in that they're both very tidy and clean. But it's a different setting and fun to watch. The FL character is interesting from the start, 2nd ML is already annoying me for his blandness and 1st ML hasn't really got into his stride as a character for me yet, at the end of Ep 3. But he's getting there and Liu Yu Ning always performs better in an edgier and meaner character imho, gives him a chance to use that sexy glare. Plus his costumes so far are great. Fangs of Fortune? I was looking forwards to it but have parked it for later after ploughing my way through the rather tedious first episode. I'll go back to it when I've got nothing else to watch. It is supposed to be a comedy, yes?

I will admit the first two episodes were hard however it is so visually beautiful I kept on, now I am hooked. The stories are heartbreaking and actors are stunningly beautiful. I don't know what avenue x was talking about when she said there was no storyline and no characters. They are solving murders in the first 13 episodes. This is highly stylized visually. It looks like the books I read when I was a teenager and as an artist, I love that!
I was really scared when the whole thing about Yu shi came out on Chinese Internet because the two more Creation of Gods movie still ahead. Hopefully they won't cut all his scenes or change the plot and ruin everything because of this.
i feel like fangs of fortune is a let down., with a doll like fl with no martial arts,nothing tangible from her part. am loving pearl girl, she is not a damsel in distress type of a gal. game of eastern palace is also good., i love ryan ding's character
I've been searching for someone else that can't watch Fang of Fortune. The CGI is beautiful, and the fight scenes are nice to look at but the actual plot is messy. I can't really tell what the storyline is yet, but these characters don't seem to be forming bonds naturally. They just all like each other for some reason and I don't know why. And just when you think they are going to have a serious moment, they then try and make it funny and it's bizarre. The goat god is nice to look at, but he acts more like a monkey then the LM monkey does! I do enjoy when the ML holds up his finger and gives commands though.
It seems like it's just way easier to get cancelled in China than it is in North America. Or, if you get cancelled in North America, a lot of people still come back from that. It takes a huge criminal scandal for someone to stay truly cancelled here.
Do you have to be a member of Youku to watch full episodes of pearl girl? As of right now I’m only seeing about 15-20 minutes of each episode. Im not talking about highlights and previews . Anyone else having this problem?

I really like fangs of fortune. If you liked the ying yang master, you'll like this, same kinda vibe, minus the steam punk visuals. I hope to make it thru all 34 episodes since they are kinda short. Most of the time i lose interest by 15-20.
This year, I have not managed to complete any period drama series, except for Love you forever S2 . Maybe I should drop my expectations to 2/10. I dropped Kill me Love me after ep 12. I dropped Fangs of Fortune at ep 4. I watched 2 episodes of The Story of Pearl Girl, not likely to continue....
Lol. We have opposite tastes when it comes to FoF and LGiEF. For me Fangs is a great romp but I'm not loving Love Game. Well, the world would be boring if we all liked the same stuff.
Fangs of fortune is really nice. Although the first few episodes were hard to get into it gets better with more episodes. Pearl girl has me on chokehold absolutely love it for the plot. It reminds me of dream of splendor in a good way not that the plots necessary related.

Tbh i also thought that way, i started it without much expectation but after 3/4 episode the characters grew on me. My standard for boring is Word of Honor, after watching that i realize people really "do" have different opinion 😂.
Watched Fangs of Fortune and I like it, mostly for the demon and goddess couple. They’re really fun to watch. The rest of the cast can be a little weird, because some of them have either serious blank face or just one emotion regardless of what is happening. Your family died - stares stoically into the camera. Happy thing happens - stares stoically into the camera. Action sequence - stares stoically into the camera. Can we just have a little emotion and expression, please? 😂 ⚠️ Little warning: if you have sensitive ears, don’t watch it. There is a main character that screeches in just about every scene he’s in. It is painful to listen to. Do not recommend watching with headphones. There’s also a lot of crying. I got so used to constant blood spitting, so it’s refreshing that now it’s just very pretty melodramatic crying 😅 Still the drama is quite fun to watch 😊
FoF started off well but became dull. Eastern Game is comical...a hilarious version of Esther Yu...too much so in some scenes. Pearl Girl...hmmm. So far, to me, this year nothing as captivating as Three Body, War of Faith, etc
I was so excited to watch the story of pearl girl bcs I wanted to see yuning and lusi once again I loved them in the long ballad however the drama is not really giving for me but i won't drop for now. Idk for Love and game it's not bad it's funny so I won't drop it either. But fangs of fortune is really good it started amazing and it's getting even better so it's my no1 for now. Also romance in the alley is so good it's my no2.
I think tsopg could've been better if they kept her mom as the main plot twist for later bcs It will be a very good one. Also if they made yuning somehow take over the place where they work in and then the story starts there.

During the Olympics - the reality show went to Paris and she made a Weibo post at the moment one of the star athletes ended up with 2nd place and she took a selfie with the photo. Apparently the number of comments made her delete the post. As for the reality show, there are moments where she demonstrates her true personality and it’s quite a contrast from her public image/persona as an actress. One moment isn’t an issue but the accumulation of what’s she said or done is something to be pondered upon.
I was excited for pearl girl because of Lusi but I hate those stories that pile up and revel in the misery on main characters especially female characters just to make audience emotions engaged... More melodrama or pathos doesn't mean better drama 🙄
So far, i’m enjoying Love Game of Eastern Palace. The TSOPG is a little depressing but will try after i finish after the fang of fortune. However, i got to said Lusi’s filler and surgery is showing is this drama. That lips is swollen compared to Hidden love and The last immortal. She looks different. there is a new that said she was out of work for six months. i am trying to look pass her face and appreciate her acting skills but it’s hard when i been watching her for a long time.
Her grandfather died during April last year. That's why she didn't film and take a rest with her family. I hope you will at least have respect and empathy as a human.

Doesn't matter to me how watchable a Chinese costume drama is, watching those male actors wearing wigs with unnatural hair lines, for me is unwatchable in any drama. If I enjoy the story then I could try my best to ignore it. Sometimes I can see the glue line under certain lightings and I've seen in some scenes where the wigs were unsticking. Why is this still happening in 2024?
I'm neither from the US or Japan so I have no stakes in this, but that game sounds like something that would only be popular on the Chinese internet because of the strong anti-American and anti-Japan sentiment plus patriotism. Poking fun at both countries in one go thanks to a local game probably sounds really fun to Chinese netizens. But I doubt people outside China would care about it. Sounds pretty uninteresting to me and it's not like the concept of mixing US and Japan cultures is new

Like they killed the mother in a nonsensical way, suddenly this chick who has been mean to the FL, turned out to be the mother, and instead of two of them run off they wasted time goes: no, u go! no, you come! No, you go! No, I’ll stay to hold them off! N got the mother kill is the most stupidest plot ever! 🤦♀️ trying to milk that emotional scene! And I lol at ppl said the plot is heavy… hardly lawl. It pretend to be heavy. The girl got attempted r-worded, but magically she’s fine. Like in that environment, I expect a child would be r-worded, that’s heavy. Like my point is everything seems to resolve quite easily for her lol. I am shocked and flabbergasted you or anyone is praising Love Game in Eastern Fantasy??? It's genuinely pretty bad?? Like the plot and pacing is all over the place. Ridiculous character set-ups. Genuinely rant worthy. Modern woman ends up in a game, doesn't even properly freak out or wonder whats going on. Halfway 1st episode multiple characters are already fighting, you have no idea whats going on or care for the characters. The pacing is too fast and jumpy, not a second to linger on emotions properly or EXPLAIN ANYTHING. And biggest of all: why even CARE for these characters at all when she knows its all fake and a game???? what kind of logic? Like why is she even sad or afraid in multiple instances when she KNOWS the characters are fake or that she will not die for real in the game? ZERO logic. And Esther's acting.. my god... I'm shocked she gets praised when she's Ju Jingyi 2.0. CONSTANTLY overacting in this drama. She's unwatchable. Not a second where her face or body isn't moving ridiculously. She's constantly wide eyed, mouth agape, or pouting or frowning, flailing her arms etc. (and what did she do to her cheeks?!? she can't even smile normally anymore!) Contrast is even bigger when compared to Ding Yuxi who acts & emotes naturally. She wasn't this bad in Fairy&Devil. Her "cuteness" now feels so fake and unnatural. What happened? And that voice... she's MUCH worse than Ren Min. Why does YSX get a pass? I LOVED Fairy&Devil and defended her a lot there cuz I thought she acted like that for Xiao Lanhua. But how does it make sense she's still using the grating baby voice and acting like a child when her character is a modern ADULT woman working a normal office job??? When its a legit concern that affects many viewers viewing pleasure. I defended her cuz in Fairy&Devil she was playing a young, naieve fairy. But there is no reason why she’s acting like a child in this drama. Not only does she always act the same. No distinction between roles. But her facial expressions have gotten worse. If Ju Jingyi or any other idol actress had acted like this they would’ve gotten dragged. Watch from ep 1 and focus on her. Not a second where she isn’t pouting, frowning, blinking, blowing up her cheeks etc. Slapstick comedy done wrong. Her fans always defend her saying she’s cute in real life and nobody but her can do these roles. But that’s absurd. She’s an actress. Vieuwers don’t need to know what’s she like personally. She needs to portray her character on screen well and she’s deff lacking here. And it can’t be defended like in Fairy&Devil anymore… But her acting is the last problem… the scriptwriting in general is messy all over. I feel like I’m being trolled and everyone is watching a different drama😂
You cant see the charm. Out of three dramas i watch simultaneously i dropped pearl girl because its too realistic , too grim, i find it hard to watch and i happen to not like Liu Yuning very much but if my emotional capacity increase i will pick it up again , probably . With lgief its a visual feast with cute costume, storyline can be a bit dumb for people with "T" on their MBTI 😂. With fangs of fortune in a nutshell avenuex previous comment is right, but her thoughts are too oversimplified, this show also have some charms, i live in tropical country so all i long for is a chilly rainy night kind of show + i love angst.
For me it's pretty solid drama. Maybe you need to watch it from different perspective. As for the reason why she feel sad or afraid in the story even though she knows she's in a novel cuz after she experiences everything itself she feel more conflicted about the story characters as she thinks it feels too real and tha characters act like real person instead of an npc. You said that she should be freak out after transmigrate into a different dimension but after that you said that her feeling towards the story characters is a problem. It's not a plot as you think it's. I suggest you to watch it again, I jut come across your comment now so I don't know if you still watch it or not but you should watch to understand it. Fang of Fortune is wonderful. Even if you don't like the drama, you could explain the symbolism behind each tale, and explain about the book that gave rise to the drama, and about each mythological tale, but you only know how to criticize, so what's the point of a Chinese woman comment on dramas? As you don't comment on the culture and symbolism found in some dramas, you only know how to criticize, so the channel is useless.

yyxh (Love Game In Eastern Fantasy) is so fun! It's such a nice breath of fresh air. The pace is fast and there's a nice balance of comedy (I'm anticipating some angst in the later episodes).
It's the perfect drama to watch when you want to de-stress after work/school.
Pearl Girl is Heavy, Grand plot, Something that's has one's emotions running while Eastern Game is light.

LGIEF is really great and ticking all my boxes so far. Esther Yu is perfect for this roll and I truly can't think of another actress who would be better for this character. In fact the casting has all been great so far with each actor doing well. The story is funny and has tropes but still feels fresh and I can't wait to see what mess happens next. Yay! I'm so happy to have a good fun drama.

I m on episode 15 of FoF and really enjoying it. I like this kind of supernatural police dramas, how the story slowly gives more information about the world setting and life of the heroes. I usually watch Guo Jiming works because of its aesthetics and he dis not disappoint. The dark colors, great cgi and beautiful actors - just my cup of tea.

I'm absolutely loving it! There's plenty of story there, it just pulls you in slowly.
heavy at times, but it always breaks the darkness with some humor. Just enough to not ruin the story, but still a necessary light heartedness to make the sometimes heart-breaking stories bearable. I like how things that seemed so arbitrary at first, make sense later on in the story. The drama seems superficially set up at first, but the more the story unfolds the more it's made clear that it's not just an arbitrary set of characters thrown together.
I'll be looking at some other works of Guo Jingming after this cause it's indeed beautiful. :)
I ve been following Guo Jiming works since Tiny Times (3 movies are amazing, the 4th is also well made, but heartbreaking), and I like this gloomy, a bit gothic pictures that he paints. Yes, the actors sometimes give this NPC feeling just because how beautiful they are, but I just know what to expect and I like what I see, I am not watching dramas for the plot or exploring social themes, I want to be enterntained. The director is a controversial figure and there is a lot of hate on him in Chinese internet.. but he follows this distinctive style that he makes the best of
I also found a way to enjoy FoF. Basically just don't expect anything from the story or the characters, just enjoy it for what it is worth: the faces, dresses, costumes, atmosphere and such.

I too am loving FofF. I am only on episode 4 and I already care about the characters plus their stories. The look, music, pacing and story are on fire. I am very pleased with this series; totally enjoying this world & the 4 main characters.

Like i get it he is very controversial but that doesn't mean he isn't a great artist!! He is the only director i know that have a very distinctive style which i respect a lot.
Now up to 6 main characters plus the super scary but cool villian. Also each story brings in characters to those sub plots. I am on episode 14 & I still love it. Maybe even more so because when I really like a series I start doling out to myself 1 episode a day. Like a treat.
I'm very looking forward to Esther Yu and Ding Xuxi drama. I have waited for a whole year. I agree with you about Ding Xuxi's hairstyle. Fit him so well and he looks so good. Best look I have ever seen of him. Love this drama styling.

I like how they start with tsopg drama. It's been a long time since I enjoyed heavy and dark drama. And it's slow-burning and doesn't have any unnecessary dialogue. the opening dive scene alone is stunning! This cinematography visuals are so crisp and dreamy. Every shot feels like art in motion, and their acting just elevates it even more!
Fangs of Fortune has fun characters, but feels like the plot is an afterthought to facilitate the CPs' interaction. Love Game in Eastern Fantasy has a entertaining script, the type I like. I think it's going to be an enjoyable watch. Pearl Girl I wasn't expecting much, but the first ep wowed me. The production quality and cinematography was really excellent. The story was emotionally immersive and really got me invested in Zhao Lu Si's Duan Wu.
Caught 7 episodes of 永夜星河 and liking what I've seen. Plot premise (FL is dragged into a game based on the novel that FL has just slammed in a review, and has to complete missions set by the system) is refreshing and entertaining. Good change of pace from all the recent revenge/ family feud period dramas that dominated the TV screen over the last couple of months.
I am not a fan of visual perfection at all, I actually love natural imperfection. But Fangs of Fortune hooked me.
Because it is not a glamorous photo shot, it is a dream drama. The whole drama is dedicated to the theme of sleep, dreams - the desire to stay inside a beautiful sweet dream, the price for this desire. The theme of unconsciousness and conscious will. And this theme that "in order to start living in reality, you need to die in a dream" is clearly the red thread of the drama. Therefore, the drama itself is not a classic story with classic narrative logic. This is a collective dream of the heroes, and it exists according to the laws of the dream

Having viewed numerous Chinese period dramas, l've seen a lot of those run of the mill kind of series. But The Story of Pearl Girl pilot episode, I firmly believe they merit recognition for their cinematic quality. It's unfortunate when others diminish this exceptional drama due to fandom. We should give credit where it's due, encouraging other drama producers to strive for similar excellence. All actors, trom leads to supporting cast, excel in their roles.
What cinematography 😂 the angles on the ML look like sh1t. His face is also missing lighr. Plus everything looks fake. Fake ocean, fake beach, fake trees, fake cave, fake sky, fake shark, everything is fake. Although I don't care for all this, people need to get some reality check!

I've watched LGIEF up to six episodes now and I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Yu Shuxin always does the 'Fish out of Water' comedy act well, and the CGI is suprisingly well done (which they actually mention in the series itself as the FL wondering how much money it would cost if it was on screen lol). A lighter watch which looks like it may go a little angsty later.
FOF is pure eye candy: only beautiful young people, and "esthetic" costumes, props, photo, sets :

I watched 6ep of TSOPG, been waiting for it for LYN. I like that they show DW story and background and her future development as a strong businesswoman. I just hope that the torture/training that YZJ will do to her wouldn't be viewed as "super" red flag that people will drop watching it. But i will finish it because I have been waiting for the leads 2nd collab.
What Chinese dramas have in common these days is that they are only fun in the beginning, but they get boring towards the end.

The whole drama around Zhou Yutong, Rong Zishan and Neo Hou in that variety show is the perfect example of why actors should stick to acting and not get involved in reality shows that reveal their true nature. I've really enjoyed both zhou and rong's acting in the past but now i don't think i can see them in the same way ever again

I didn't want to leave a comment under the Eastern Fantasy video as it wouldn't be fair to talk about a different drama there so I came back here. Because I think that the Pearl Girl deserves a video, too. I enjoy both shows, but if I had to pay a subscription to watch just one of them, that would be the Pearl Girl. Eastern Fantasy is a light watch after work, but Pearl Girl ticks almost all my boxes. And I the ZLS has grown leaps and bounds. I barely can notice some of her mannerisms that were quite obvious in the older dramas. Everything else is better in PG compared to EF. And I DO enjoy EF, too, but I find that it didn't go all the way where it wanted to go and that takes some of the excitement away.

Thanks AvenueX! I finished the chapter 6 video. You have some great nuggets of information I really appreciate. That Chinese characters are energetically active/charged seems totally reasonable to me and so there is a process for disposing of them properly. I saw that in 三国 (2010) but again didn’t know what I was looking at. Sima Yi is at Cao Chong’s tomb mourning Cao Chong and someone comes up to mourn him with Sima Yi and the first thing they do is throw a book on the fire (really they went to pick Sima Yi’s brain but they used mourning as an excuse 😂). So the idea of burning a document to dispose of the characters properly now makes sense.

The bit that I'm really enjoying about Pearl Girl atm is the ship set, the bits that are filmed "onboard". The CGI of it on the water is dreadful but the lower decks are interesting, though a bit unrealistic in that they're both very tidy and clean. But it's a different setting and fun to watch. The FL character is interesting from the start, 2nd ML is already annoying me for his blandness and 1st ML hasn't really got into his stride as a character for me yet, at the end of Ep 3. But he's getting there and Liu Yu Ning always performs better in an edgier and meaner character imho, gives him a chance to use that sexy glare. Plus his costumes so far are great. Fangs of Fortune? I was looking forwards to it but have parked it for later after ploughing my way through the rather tedious first episode. I'll go back to it when I've got nothing else to watch. It is supposed to be a comedy, yes?

I will admit the first two episodes were hard however it is so visually beautiful I kept on, now I am hooked. The stories are heartbreaking and actors are stunningly beautiful.

I've been searching for someone else that can't watch Fang of Fortune. The CGI is beautiful, and the fight scenes are nice to look at but the actual plot is messy. I can't really tell what the storyline is yet, but these characters don't seem to be forming bonds naturally. They just all like each other for some reason and I don't know why. And just when you think they are going to have a serious moment, they then try and make it funny and it's bizarre. The goat god is nice to look at, but he acts more like a monkey then the LM monkey does! I do enjoy when the ML holds up his finger and gives commands though.
It seems like it's just way easier to get cancelled in China than it is in North America. Or, if you get cancelled in North America, a lot of people still come back from that. It takes a huge criminal scandal for someone to stay truly cancelled here.

I really like fangs of fortune. If you liked the ying yang master, you'll like this, same kinda vibe, minus the steam punk visuals. I hope to make it thru all 34 episodes since they are kinda short. Most of the time i lose interest by 15-20.

Tbh i also thought that way, i started it without much expectation but after 3/4 episode the characters grew on me. My standard for boring is Word of Honor, after watching that i realize people really "do" have different opinion 😂.

As for the reality show, there are moments where she demonstrates her true personality and it’s quite a contrast from her public image/persona as an actress. One moment isn’t an issue but the accumulation of what’s she said or done is something to be pondered upon.
I was excited for pearl girl because of Lusi but I hate those stories that pile up and revel in the misery on main characters especially female characters just to make audience emotions engaged... More melodrama or pathos doesn't mean better drama 🙄
So far, i’m enjoying Love Game of Eastern Palace. The TSOPG is a little depressing but will try after i finish after the fang of fortune. However, i got to said Lusi’s filler and surgery is showing is this drama. That lips is swollen compared to Hidden love and The last immortal. She looks different. there is a new that said she was out of work for six months. i am trying to look pass her face and appreciate her acting skills but it’s hard when i been watching her for a long time.
Her grandfather died during April last year. That's why she didn't film and take a rest with her family.
I hope you will at least have respect and empathy as a human.

Doesn't matter to me how watchable a Chinese costume drama is, watching those male actors wearing wigs with unnatural hair lines, for me is unwatchable in any drama. If I enjoy the story then I could try my best to ignore it. Sometimes I can see the glue line under certain lightings and I've seen in some scenes where the wigs were unsticking. Why is this still happening in 2024?
I'm neither from the US or Japan so I have no stakes in this, but that game sounds like something that would only be popular on the Chinese internet because of the strong anti-American and anti-Japan sentiment plus patriotism. Poking fun at both countries in one go thanks to a local game probably sounds really fun to Chinese netizens. But I doubt people outside China would care about it. Sounds pretty uninteresting to me and it's not like the concept of mixing US and Japan cultures is new

I checked out pearl girl for like 1.5ep, and the plot is rather stupid lol. Like they killed the mother in a nonsensical way, suddenly this chick who has been mean to the FL, turned out to be the mother, and instead of two of them run off they wasted time goes: no, u go! no, you come! No, you go! No, I’ll stay to hold them off! N got the mother kill is the most stupidest plot ever! 🤦♀️ trying to milk that emotional scene!
And I lol at ppl said the plot is heavy… hardly lawl. It pretend to be heavy. The girl got attempted r-worded, but magically she’s fine. Like in that environment, I expect a child would be r-worded, that’s heavy. Like my point is everything seems to resolve quite easily for her lol. Also she’s pretty white for a diving/beach girl 🤣🤣🤣 my cousin is a scuba diver instructor, and I can tell you, she cannot keep her skin that white, even though she wants to 🙄

I am shocked and flabbergasted you or anyone is praising Love Game in Eastern Fantasy??? It's genuinely pretty bad?? Like the plot and pacing is all over the place. Ridiculous character set-ups. Genuinely rant worthy. Modern woman ends up in a game, doesn't even properly freak out or wonder whats going on. Halfway 1st episode multiple characters are already fighting, you have no idea whats going on or care for the characters. The pacing is too fast and jumpy, not a second to linger on emotions properly or EXPLAIN ANYTHING.
And biggest of all: why even CARE for these characters at all when she knows its all fake and a game???? what kind of logic? Like why is she even sad or afraid in multiple instances when she KNOWS the characters are fake or that she will not die for real in the game? ZERO logic.
And Esther's acting.. my god... I'm shocked she gets praised when she's Ju Jingyi 2.0. CONSTANTLY overacting in this drama. She's unwatchable. Not a second where her face or body isn't moving ridiculously. She's constantly wide eyed, mouth agape, or pouting or frowning, flailing her arms etc. (and what did she do to her cheeks?!? she can't even smile normally anymore!) Contrast is even bigger when compared to Ding Yuxi who acts & emotes naturally. She wasn't this bad in Fairy&Devil. Her "cuteness" now feels so fake and unnatural. What happened? And that voice... she's MUCH worse than Ren Min. Why does YSX get a pass?
I LOVED Fairy&Devil and defended her a lot there cuz I thought she acted like that for Xiao Lanhua. (even tho SO MANY people dropped and refused to watch the drama solely cuz of her, cuz they couldn't digest her voice or acting). But how does it make sense she's still using the grating baby voice and acting like a child when her character is a modern ADULT woman working a normal office job???

I defended her cuz in Fairy&Devil she was playing a young, naieve fairy. But there is no reason why she’s acting like a child in this drama. Not only does she always act the same. No distinction between roles. But her facial expressions have gotten worse. If Ju Jingyi or any other idol actress had acted like this they would’ve gotten dragged.
Watch from ep 1 and focus on her. Not a second where she isn’t pouting, frowning, blinking, blowing up her cheeks etc. Slapstick comedy done wrong.
Her fans always defend her saying she’s cute in real life and nobody but her can do these roles. But that’s absurd. She’s an actress. Vieuwers don’t need to know what’s she like personally. You cant see the charm. Out of three dramas i watch simultaneously i dropped pearl girl because its too realistic , too grim, i find it hard to watch and i happen to not like Liu Yuning very much but if my emotional capacity increase i will pick it up again , probably . With lgief its a visual feast with cute costume, storyline can be a bit dumb for people with "T" on their MBTI 😂. With fangs of fortune in a nutshell avenuex previous comment is right, but her thoughts are too oversimplified, this show also have some charms, i live in tropical country so all i long for is a chilly rainy night kind of show + i love angst.
For me it's pretty solid drama. Maybe you need to watch it from different perspective. As for the reason why she feel sad or afraid in the story even though she knows she's in a novel cuz after she experiences everything itself she feel more conflicted about the story characters as she thinks it feels too real and tha characters act like real person instead of an npc. But your comments are quite condraticted itself. You said that she should be freak out after transmigrate into a different dimension but after that you said that her feeling towards the story characters is a problem. It's not a plot as you think it's. I suggest you to watch it again, I jut come across your comment now so I don't know if you still watch it or not but you should watch to understand it. She will eventually die if she doesn't complete the tasks, the tasks itself need her to follow the timeline of the real novel that's why she always afraid that the story will be off from the real timeline.

Fang of Fortune is wonderful. Even if you don't like the drama, you could explain the symbolism behind each tale, and explain about the book that gave rise to the drama, and about each mythological tale, but you only know how to criticize, so what's the point of a Chinese woman comment on dramas? As you don't comment on the culture and symbolism found in some dramas, you only know how to criticize, so the channel is useless.
