As much as hogan used his power backstage and maybe would have screwed Austin, the babyface reaction at wrestlemania 18 was not his fault. The people in the crowd just naturally wanted to cheer for hogan because he was loved by the Canadian crowd and that was the guy most of us grew up watching. Once hogan started getting cheered, the rock made the call to switch and just go with it. I was there that night
It’s really unfortunate that we’ve never got matches like Shawn Michaels vs The Rock, Austin vs Goldberg and Undertaker vs Sting. Those would’ve definitely been really good when they were in their prime
Austin vs Goldberg a blockbuster of epic proportions. In terms of drawing power and ratings that would have shattered records. Hbk vs Styles I think is the proverbial dream match we never got to see. That match would have taken in-ring athleticism and storytelling to a whole another level. An instant Wrestlemania classic for sure. Sting vs Taker is perhaps the greatest missed opportunity ever. Had Sting signed with Vince in the 2000s quite possibly we could’ve had the greatest dream match ever with these two in their primes. HBK vs The Rock is kayfabe storytelling at its finest. The type of match that isn’t dependant on stipulations, titles, or main events, just a match. A match that would redefine in-ring storytelling, kayfabe, psychology, finishes, booking you name it. That match would almost be surreal because it would prove to be so competitive yet so personal at the same time.
Yk undertaker was supposed to face abyss from tna at wrestlemania 21 I think but abyss got stage firefly and backed out but now looking at it that match in a hell in a cell would have been insane
I remember the WWF teasing Austin vs Goldberg in the early 2000s when they met for the first time in the ring after a run-in segment. The commentators were even trying to build it up, saying something like "Oh my god, look what's happening in the ring". Unfortunately, the live audience somehow didn't care at all. Little-to-no cheers, the crowd just talked among themselves.
No John Cena Would’ve Been Booed Out Of The Building Against Hogan. It Took John Cena 10 Years To Get Over. He Was Overrated/Overprivileged/Overvalued/Overpushed/Overpraised. The Fans Turned On The Rock Against Hogan. They Would’ve Done The Same To Austin & Cena. WWE John Cena Was On Top During WWE Downhilling Years. Obviously WWE Went Downhill In 2005. Bret vs Brock, Bret vs Angle, Bret vs Jericho, L.O.D. vs Dudleyz, L.O.D. vs Ax & Smash version of Demolition, Steiners vs Hardyz, HBK vs AJ Styles, HBK vs Punk, Piper vs Punk, Hogan vs Foley, there’s so many dream matches that could of happened that weren’t mentioned.
WM 18 with Hogan/Rock turned out how it did because the two guys went the direction the fans were taking them. Toronto wanted to cheer Hogan and instead of panicking, they went with it and that’s why that turned out so great. Hogan did everything to try to get heat and go in as the heel. Fans had a different idea.
Undertaker vs Sting at Wrestlemania 31. They were so close. They actually had Sting at a Wrestlemania, and it was the year after Brock Lesner broke Undertaker's streak. That means Undertaker and Sting could have clashed at Wrestlemania without the streak hanging over Undertaker's head. It could have been a match for the ages. Instead they had Sting fight HHH in a feud that no one cared about. What a missed opportunity.
yes, WWE is dumb, yet Sting and Taker more or less couldn't come to a decision, both had thought of it. but. they DID have a match way back, when Mark was Mean Mark, so IT DID HAPPEN, just not the vision fans wanted.
Austin vs Goldberg a blockbuster of epic proportions. In terms of drawing power and ratings that would have shattered records. Hbk vs Styles I think is the proverbial dream match we never got to see. I'm glad we never got Austin Vs. Hogan. At the time, Austin was coming off a botched heel turn, so his Attitude Era popularity had waned. Meanwhile Hogan was running on a nostalgia rush, and most likely the fans would have cheer him more...thus giving him leverage over Vince...and the classic "that doesn't work for me, brother" crap. He'd see Austin as "too small" and would NEVER put him over. In all honesty, a Hogan at peak popularity vs. Austin at peak popularity should have been kick, stunner, cuss in his face, flip off flip off flip off, Austin pins Hogan, 1, 2, 3, Austin wins. That's the only outcome there should be.
Michaels vs Seth / AJ / Eddie / Danielson Danielson vs Benoit / Hart Maybe LA Knight vs Austin / Rock Sting vs Taker Brock vs Batista Big Show vs André Michaels vs Rock
Regarding that Hulk vs Rock match, apparently that was a thing they were a little confused about going into the ring. They weren't sure who was supposed to be taking what role, so they'd decided to see which way the fans were leaning, and once they realized which one they were pulling for more settled into their roles. It wasn't so much Hulk upstaging Rock, as Rock seeing which way the winds of the crowd were blowing and helping the Hulkster get over.
Though neither were in their prime at the time, one of the matches actually DID happen. When Mark Calloway was in WCW as Mean Mark Callous, he faced off against " Surfer" Sting. Mark was still as he even put it, " finding his legs" and Sting was still mid-rise to the top.
Hmmm, it sounds like Goldberg waited till Austin left because where Austin was a big thing in the company, maybe he felt that it wouldn't go in his favor. That might have been why he got the Rock...a thought. lol
So here are my dream matches: Brock Lesnar vs Batista-Battle of two alpha males from the ruthless agression era. Had Lesnar not left in 2004, we could've gotten this match. Either that or at wrestlemania 30. Shawn Michaels vs The Rock-A Heel Corporate Rock and HBK as part of DX would've worked so well. The Rock vs Randy Orton-We could've gotten this match back at WM 20. Stone Cold vs Hogan-The biggest babyface of The 90s vs The Biggest Babyface of the 80s. The Rock vs Bret Hart-Battle of the two largest families to be born in the wrestling industry. Undertaker vs Sting-The most feared wrestler of WWF/E vs The most feared of WCW.
(Heel) CM Punk vs Shawn Michaels (Heel) Kurt Angle vs Bret Hart (Heel) Kurt Angle vs Batista (Heel) The Rock vs Rey Mysterio (Heel) AJ Styles vs Eddie Guerrero
I heard from some wrestling content that 1999 Survivor Series was false advertising but I can't believe we never seen a Triple Threat Match between The Attitude Era's 3 biggest stars of The Rock, Stone Cold and HHH
Bret Hart vs Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels vs AJ Styles, Any of the Harts vs Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler vs Ricky Steamboat, Razor Ramon vs Drew McIntyre, Gunther vs Harley Race... So many dream matches.
Kurt, Bret, Benoit, and Eddie are in a league of their own when it comes to in ring performances. With Perk Angle being the epitome, completely untouchable by anyone.

Goldberg vs Ultimate Warrior! A combined move arsenal of 5 moves, both injured people in the ring, both suck at promos, both have entrances lasting longer than their matches.
Wrestle with Andy big fan but you left off some much other dream matches the biggest one being A.J Styles vs Shawn Michaels Kurt Angle vs Bert Hart ken shamrock vs Kurt Angle Bret Hitman Hart vs Edge just to name a fee stone cold vs Brock Lesnar
100% agree with Undertaker VS Andre!! Personal wishlist: HBK VS Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, Kurt Angle VS Bret Hart, AND FINALLY…how about: The Rock VS “Macho Man” Randy Savage?! Anyone else agree with me?
Other matches I would liked(Late 90’s/early 2000’s to all): Austin vs Sting Rock(face) vs Goldberg Taker vs Sting Rock vs Flair Nash n Hall vs Kane n Undertaker Steiners vs APA Jericho vs Flair during invasion HBK vs Sting Bret Hart vs Kurt Angle
Really glad you mentioned Batista vs Brock they did have a little show down in the rumble 2002 I believe when he was deacon Batista and I was pumped bc he was the next Brock…. But you left off AJ vs HBK that probably would have been the greatest match ever also HBK Vs Macho Man would have made my list
