In this episode, I put my 2005 Lancer Evolution 8 to the test with one question in mind: is it the most exciting car you can get for $20,000? The Evo 8 promises an exhilarating ride, with its turbo sounds, waste gates, and blow off valve making for a truly immersive driving experience. From redlining over and over again to the huge grins it brings, this car is pure fun on wheels.
Just as I was about to crown the Evo 8 as the ultimate sub-$20K thrill machine, an unexpected twist occurred. In a true display of EVO life, the clutch gave out right in the middle of the highway. What followed was a coast down the off-ramp and a two-block push to safety. Despite the breakdown, the adventure with the Evo 8 was an unforgettable experience.
Watch this rollercoaster review to see the highs and lows of owning a 2005 Lancer Evolution 8, and whether its performance and excitement outweigh the infamous EVO life reliability issues.

I am the original owner of a stock an Evo 8, 195,000 miles, it has never failed me. It has the forged MR BBS wheels and the MR Bilstein suspension. No burnouts, the clutch was replaced at 185,000 miles. Normal maintenance, the best lubricants. If you are blowing up clutches and engines, you don’t know how to drive or you don’t understand the car. Stock it is not a drag racer but a perfectly balanced tool to carve canyons. The steering feel is second only to a Lotus Elise, the Brembo brakes are as good as it gets in stopping power and feel. I have owned many cars in my 82 years and the Evo is the best sedan I have ever owned.

Comment is on point. Car breaking had nothing to do with my driving. Clutch was shot. Once I replaced it, it was perfect

An Evo needs to be built properly to be fast and reliable, mine makes 500hp to the wheels, revs to 9000rpm and never gave me issues. On the track, it laps 2 seconds quicker than a 991.2 GT3 RS at my local track. Too many people don't know how to build them and just slap different parts and tune it poorly - that's when it breaks. That's why they're the basis for the world's quickest time attack cars (look up Tilton Evo for reference).

Whats up my friend. Could you please send me a parts list? Would love to build mine. Please DM me on Instagram. Would love to experience what you are experiencing with your car.

I duno if yourve ever driven the ce9a model evo but these ct9a versions are alot better steering and mechanically upgraded to suit different terrain, might need another review after yourve got the car to drivable spec where your not driving with so much ware.

Push it with the trunk, not the wing 😂 You are going to dent it. Under 400whp they are actually decently reliable. I’m guessing that car has a bit of history with bad owners.
