For all those asking about the music just remember this was a silent film so the music was made in our time not in that time. When this film was played in theaters it was played with a piano accompaniment by a Pianist in the theater. It wasn't until years later that silent movies began to have a recorded orchestral soundtrack added on to them mostly thankful to Ted Turner for this.

That wasn’t a remake. They just used the title. The silent film was first released as the Clansman. Due to the controversy when it was released the director changed the name. The one about Nat Turner (although he was a fascinating historical figure) was mostly fiction.

James S. Pike, a Northern journalist who had once been a fervent abolitionist, wrote an unforgettable account of South Carolina under Black rule. Pike was sickened by the sight of the Black delegates who crammed the floor of the South Carolina House. “At some of the desks,” he commented, “sit colored men whose types it would be hard to find outside of the Congo.” The distinguished legislators lounged or slept in their chairs, often surrounded by a litter of peanut shells and an empty whisky bottle or two. The more conscientious members ensconced themselves behind open newspapers, often held upside down (few of the Black solons could read or write).
