Wow, great video and deep dive into the genre. My one issue is that I wish you had spoiler-tagged parts of the video or at least put a warning at the beginning. Obviously, you're going to reference works of cyberpunk but I didn't expect to get pretty big plot spoilers for some of these. If you did mention spoilers then I apologize, but just as a suggestion for future viewers it would be helpful to do so. Thanks!
I think what this video neglected to mention about the reasons for western ideals and story concepts for cyberpunk is that America was created off of ideals of fighting for one’s freedom and individuality while paving the way to it in war and violence, it’s deeply rooted in our culture and way of life, therefor media centering around those themes in a dystopian future aiming to take those things away from us with the force of technology, which is usually foreign, is extremely close to our feared reality of fading away into nothing or being taken over by foreign countries once again. That’s why it exists the way it does. Wonderful work though, cyberpunk is a beautiful genre full of story writing gems!
DUDE PLEAAASE what are the tunes in this video? they rock. Also nice comparison between both cultures and their take on cyberpunk, you have given me new tools to understand and represent the genre.
Its a track named Obokuri-Eeumi from the Samurai Champloo soundtrack. I choose it because of its melancholic and contemplative tone. I'm very glad you enjoyed the video!
I'm not sure if I agree with the statement that Japan is the sole post-apocalyptic country in history, as WWII was pretty devastating with the introduction of napalm, that was later used to render entire nations to ash and smoke. Or perhaps one could consider the Peloponnesian war to be just as devastating, but on a smaller scale. Also, I have a problem with the name cyberpunk, because it reminds of me of one of its influences, punk subculture and its appropriation of cultural elements from First Nations. Not to mention how punk rock, which is a vehicle to promote punk subculture, was culturally appropriated from African-American culture. So I prefer to call it by its original name New Wave sci-fi, or else I retreat into Afrofuturism. Pretty good presentation though.
AzN Theory sent me here
Good eassy, I loved how you framed the differences in endings and in the concept of belonging to a group instead of individualism. Cheers from Spain!
It is a crime that you don't have more subs and views! Great job man :)

I'm sad to say I'm unfortunately unfamiliar with the history of punk culture. Cyberpunk is the most common name for the genre hence my using of it.
Did he just make an apology of fascism?
