wow, thanks for this, I've used the SONOFF devices but always with the built in software, but seeing how easy the flashing and integration with home assistant is, I'm going to order the ftdi board and clips to start programming and doing my first home assistant build... thanks!!!
@@ChuckBuilds Hi Chuck, Thank for your reply. I have contacted Sonoff directly, they said the size of the screw is self-tapping screw ST2x10, countersunk, cross, point tail, stainless steel, and use the PH0 screwdriver. Leave the comment here for others with same question. :)
Just learned i need to see if i can flash my wemo plugs... If i need to buy new plugs i know what brand i wont buy (wemo) and what referral link ill click on.
I followed your instructions and did fine, connected and I told it to install. It tried, but came back with Installation failed - Failed to initialize. Try resetting your device or holding the BOOT button while clicking INSTALL. I tried several times but continued to fail. Any ideas?
I'd try a combination of things. I'd restart your computer, Switch USB Ports, maybe consider switching USB plugs if you have another, and then try the tasmota launcher from Microsoft Edge. I vaguely recall having a similar issue to you on one of the many plugs I did but it was like a random issue - a restart and new USB port fixed it (if i recall correctly!)
Just used your Amazon link and put a couple of those plugs in my cart. I'll play with those next week. Have you thought about doing one of your great beginner videos for YAML...I'm struggling with it and I know I got code bloat. None of the other videos I've seen are simple enough for me to follow or at least get the basic idea of the template.
@@ChuckBuilds hummm...node-red video..I'll have to look at that. Got the config editor finally figured out but I'll sure the way I'm programming is the main cause of code bloat. But it works. As I get smarter I'll clean it up. Working on putting Tasmota on this weekend
I followed your exact instructions, but all of my plugs go unavailable on HA every 2 minutes. Getting the following errors in Tasmota log. 17:35:35.276 MQT: Attempting connection... 17:35:35.500 MQT: Connect failed to IP:1883, rc -2. Retry in 10 sec 17:35:46.254 MQT: Attempting connection... 17:35:46.476 MQT: Connect failed to IP:1883, rc -2. Does location of the plugs change the outcome? My first guess would be interference. It is strange it is on such a predictable schedule though. Any errors from your MQTT log?
@@ChuckBuilds I wish we hadn't done it on the phone... i'm trying to get this online, and I followed all of your instructions. But it's not showing up in home assistant. (Doesn't Show up in Settings/dashboards/energy either

It's daunting but I think it is worth the effort! They're great little plugs
This looks like it'll be THE simplest guide I've seen!
I'm ordering parts tonight and will subscribe NOW.
Thank you1
Great how to. Thanks for making these things approachable. Will eventually use thosr ref links
Super helpful! Thank you
Thanks. Worked perfectly.
May I ask what is the size of the screwdriver you used?
I believe it was a Phillips #1 but can't exactly recall

This is very interesting!

Not on the list but i appreciate how fast you just made that research!

Why is the S"40" linked?
I am not sure, it looks like SONOFF pulled the S31 off of their amazon page but I can find it elsewhere. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks! I’ll think about it but I’m not huge on yaml either haha. I’m working on a node-red video and maybe that’ll bridge a gap for you

tasmota loaded fine. works good but it doesn't show up on a device map....is that normal.
@@donn3389 did you add your MQTT information?
"Moving" the jumper over is confusing... makes it sound like you are changing voltage configuration.
can you flash it with a mac or does it require a pc?
I would think it would work fine! I don't have a mac to test it but I can't find anything that says otherwise.

$21.99 for a two pack now. Inflation sucks!
Wow! I hope it's a temporary seller thing on Amazon, that's higher price than the last year!
too fast, can't follow your cursor.
