I've been trying to use my hips and core a bit more and training my shoulder, I'll record some more matches now and check the different things that you mentioned.

Hi Louis, I really respect your knowledge of table tennis and I learn a lot from watching these videos. I hope I can ask you a quick question.
I have been playing table tennis for 54 years. I was a double-winged looper USATT rating around 2,000. I sustained an injury playing doubles in table tennis and had to have reconstructive surgery on my left foot and ankle that left me disabled. I'm 64 years old now and I still play hopefully once a week. The problem is at my age and with my disability I can no longer afford to move and perform the strokes I did when I was younger as a double-winged looper. If I'm to continue playing, I cannot sustain any more injuries at all. Which means I have to play close to the table with minimal footwork. Because of my table, tennis experience and ability, I can play with pretty much any inverted rubber and blade. My current setup is Jun Mizutani SZLC with nittaku fast Arc G1 Max on my forehand and dignics 05 Max on my backhand.
What equipment/style would you recommend for me considering that I cannot perform full normal strokes safely and my lack of footwork? Thank you very much for the favor of reply. Warm regards.

Hello! It’s awesome that you’ve been playing the sport for such a long time and still enjoy it. Sorry to hear about the injury. Before I make any recommendations I know you said you’re a double wing looper - what would you say your stronger side / bread and butter shot is?

@@Looeelooee Hi Louis! Thank you so much for your reply. Backhand is my stronger and more dangerous side, simply because of its consistency and the versatility. My forehand is stronger by far, however it takes more footwork and it is not as versatile or consistent. I really appreciate your help. There is a shortage of table tennis coaches for the elderly and many of the drills that I used to do when I was younger I can no longer do. I'm really looking forward to your reply. I have a lot of equipment at home and I have been experimenting with long pips and ant. I. Due to the fact that I play so infrequently just once a week, it is so hard to see improvement when I try different equipment. I'm looking forward to your reply with great anticipation and wish you the best of luck in your continued success on TH-cam. I'm always looking forward to seeing your new videos. Thank you and kind regards.

@@Looeelooee Hi Louis, sorry I forgot to tell you about my bread and butter shot. My bread and butter shot is my backhand drive, my backhand punch shot, my backhand block and drop shot. On my forehand side, my bread and butter shot is my loop followed by my flip and push. Thank you, Louis!

@@LooeelooeeBy the way, I am 6'2", 280 lbs. I just thought I should mention that because I get good power when attacking. I do have soft hands and very good touch and placement of all my shots. Thank you!

In the end this will come down to personal preference but what about trying short / medium pips on the backhand? You'd be able to keep playing the same shots (drive, punch, block, drop, etc) you currently play and it would also be more consistent and an easier transition than switching to long pips. It would also mean you don't have to move as much or swing as hard on the backhand so you only would really need to focus on the forehand side. You'd be able to play close to the table off the bounce with minimal footwork but still have the forehand weapon when you need it. As for the forehand rubber I play with mizutani super zlc myself and I'm pretty familiar with it. I'm not too familiar with the nittaku rubbers but i'd say if your feeling is still really good go with an extremely fast and spinny rubber, something that will allow you to loop without having to strain yourself each shot. So stay away from tacky rubbers like hurricane, 09c, etc.
Hope this helps and best of luck!
