    Couldn't agree more with that. Robert Palmer had more talent in his little finger than a lot of todays 'stars'. He had an amazing career and always followed his heart with music, never becoming pigeonholed in a particular genre. Because he was always so well presented and gorgeous, some people will think he coudln't be talented too, which is stupid of course. His music speaks for itself.

      This is the most cliched comment by the sour old goats of TH-cam after every vintage singing, dancing, or acting video streaming. Compliment one by insulting thousands. I can't imagine a single one of the celebrities "complimented," dead or alive, would appreciate this kind of comment, and yet they are ones most prevalent.

This performance was aired February 7, 1997. The songs in the medley are "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On", "Bad Case Of Lovin' You", "Addicted To Love" and "Simply Irresistible"
    Hope you all enjoyed it and please subscribe to me. Thank you!

    I always liked Robert Palmer and was saddened that he died a relatively young man. I read some short blurb stating he was "style over substance." Bullshit. He was a excellent singer and an impeccably dressed entertainer. I just notice those things, and the guy always looked like a million bucks. Just because he knew how to dress doesn't mean he can't sing as well. That was part of his image.

    • @DHudelson
      @DHudelson 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      He was extremely "substantial".

    • @zeruchofficial
      @zeruchofficial 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think Palmer generally confused folks. He was neither super-serious auteur nor just fluff. He occupied a weird liminal space that had him covering tunes in strange arrangements, and visually standing a adjacent to what was en vogue without being intentionally out of sync. He could write a decent tune and had a distinctive voice. He was comfortable with jazz standards and cheesy pop-rock, and the lack of cohesion was probably the reason he got pegged the way he did. I didn't think he was a great talent, but he was a solid craftsman that could provide a handful of surprises on every album. I tend to view his work in Power Station and parts of his Riptide and Heavy Nova records as his peak (he really did best with a strong production hand, and guys like Bernard from Chic offered that).

    • @GFHanks

    I don't give a sit what people say about his lifestyle or anything close...He was one of the best singers/entertainers ever. Give him the props he deserves...he had so many memorable songs than a lot of popular performers in the last 30 years...he was the ultimate performer, and creator of some of the best songs in the last several decades.

That's why for this appearance he made sure that the drums played by Max Weinberg had the right sound echo and delay attached to the mike nearest the drums for that sharp strong sound. My favorite songs of his with DEEP hard feel are .......Fleshwound......Now More Than Ever...... Didn't Mean To Turn You On.......Sweet Lies......Simply Irresistible, and Some Like It Hot.
