That guy who sang could really converse, I mean all of them. Their limited English still made the vlogger able to understand what they were trying to say and they made him feel so comfortable. There's that famous Filipino warmth at work here. I'm just so proud being Filipino.
In English, the word "tuba" refers to a coconut wine, and "Tungog" (Mangrover tanbark) is the name given to the Tanbark that was used to flavor the wine. It facilitates the agitation of coconut wineIt or it aids in fermenting, making the wine out of the coconut wine. Particularly after fermenting for a little while longer, the fermented coconut wines can be made into coconut vinegar. We Filipinos jokingly refer to the farmer whose source of income is harvesting coconut wine from the coconut tree as a "Coconut Pilot." We Filipinos invented the term "Coconut Pilot" because climbing a coconut tree, especially one that is very tall and high, is dangerous and requires courage. "Hak-Hak" refers to the curving steps on a coconut trunk as "coconut notches" because they resemble a v shape, and that's where the coconut pilot steps on it to climb the coconut tree easily. However, certain Southeast Asians have their own method of climbing the coconut, notches on the trunk of coconut trees are only visible in the Philippines. "Butay" (boo-tie) is a coconut spade or coconut flower; the young coconut spade is where the coconut wine is produced.
"Tuba" a.k.a. the "brick layer", we jokingly refer to it as that because if you drink too much of it, the heat it creates inside your body is so very dehydrating that you end up shitting bricks the next day.
Genuine hospitality will always be part of your travels there. To offer a stranger something , be it a simple drink or a meager meal is considered a blessing and we always believe that kindness will be reciprocated back in some way, so don't ever feel weird for not paying or even feel obligated to do so. Filipinos will be content with a simple gesture of genuine appreciation. Sending you warm Pinoy vibes from Philadelphia 😊
You're one of the best vlogger i like on how easy for you to interact with filipinos and how genuine you are . Very open to learn our culture..😊 keep it up and take care!
I just love watching your channel, ie, the beauty of the islands, the provinces, the infectious hospitality and friendliness of the locals; Being able to sample the cuisines.
Finally a new video after 2 weeks 😂 I googled Tuba for you to help you understand more. "Coconut Wine or Tuba is a sweet, fresh or mildly fermented sap taken from tapping the young expanded flowers of the coconut. It is popularly known locally as “Jungle wine,” it is also called coconut toddy. The tuba is poured into a fermentation vessel where it becomes vinegar after a couple of weeks or months when it reaches its natural acidity level". Watching from Cebu. Please come visit our place again soon. Amping Jonathan.
I can see in your eyes Jonathan that you are a kind person. I've been watching your Channel since the first time you came in the Philippines. I like that you always smile. I hope you'll never get tired making videos in Philippines. I'm hoping also that you will have a collaboration with Becoming Filipino.
Aloha from Hawaii Sir, it is so awesome to see travel vlogs presented in English. I am filipino by decent, but I was born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii. I'm a retired Police Sergeant. I do NOT speak Tagalog, or any dialect of the Philippines.........so I really appreciate you travel vlogs......in English. Great job my brother. God Bless !!!

Was just in Bohol and was extremely happy with how kind people were. We were up in Panglao and had an awesome time. You should go on the island hopping tour and see the virgin island. It's amazing.
Your convo with Kuyas in white is one of the sweetest interactions i've seen bet. a foreign vlogger and locals. You are already adapting to our culture. Keep it up, Jonathan!
The is the best local interaction I’ve seen so far. I’ve been watching vloggers come & go in the Phil’s but nothing beat this particular episode, specially the first part with the guy who sang. Jon you got good conversations skills. Good luck and always safety first.
I love Tuba, the most fresh coconut wine there is. I wish I can have some right now but nothing here in US. Loving my countrymen, so hospitable and so fun 👍. 🇵🇭🫶

I’m binging your videos. Love the way you interact with people. Filipinos are the kindest people. They will treat everyone kindly if you show them respect. If you have the time you should go back to this family and have some presents for the kids. It doesn’t have to be big. It will show that you appreciate them.
that guy hust wanted you to have a drink with him, clearly he knows his english, he easily could have said coconut wine rather than coconut juice, anyways, Thank you Jonathan for also being so accomodating and receptive to Filipinos, they genuinelly just want to know you and have you for conpany. youre a nice person.
I loved your videos. Thank you for visiting our beautiful country. Yeah it is so true Filipinos are very hospitable. Enjoy your visit there! I just subscribed to your channel!
We call it "Tuba" or "coconut wine" here in the province of the Philippines. A Filipino alcoholic beverage created from the sap of various species of palm trees or coconut tree.
Ooooo I love this! Thanks for bringing us closer to the Philippines through your videos. Interacting with locals is the best and of course, the lovely beaches. I haven’t been there in over a decade. Thank you ! ❤🙏
I stayed in 1Peace early 2020. It’s being managed by French crew. During my stay, there were lots of Germans and mostly Europeans who dive. I just stayed to relax and read. The water is beautiful. The sand is powdery white. I enjoyed their dinner fellowship but thought the food was not enough for a dozen of us. 😅 Enjoy your stay there!
Hi Jonathan, am watching all your Philippines trip. Thank you so much for loving our country especially the people. I admire what you are doing. I wish to invite you one day when I will be in the Philippines and I wish to retire too soon. Am originally from Guindulman Bohol. I got emotional every time I watched your videos. Tuba is usually pertaining to the coconut wine. The sap from the coconut blossoms comes out kind of whitish, but they add something to it to aid the fermentation process. You can drink it right away or wait for it ferment for about a couple of day is best. Like any fermentation the first stage is the production of alcohol and as it progresses it becomes more acidic and the second stage is vinegar. The longer it sits the darker it becomes, also it depends on how much of that additive they have added. Coconut water comes from the water inside the coconut fruit. Coconut milk comes from an older coconut meat and then grated and squeezed and strained away the solid part or pulp. Coconut like any fruit have different stage of maturation and the best coconut water comes from the green young coconut.
Hi Jonathan! You live a comfortable life in the U. S, and I admire that you love staying here in the Philippines inspite of the simplicity of life (poorness, poverty) you see in our country. Many foreign vloggers do stay in the comfortness of BGC and MAKATI. But you, you don't choose your crowd. You prepare the happiness you get from people with scarcity in life.
Hi Jonathan tuba come from the sap of the coconut. They ferment it for several days then it’s ready to be served. I’m happy that you enjoyed the Philippines. Thanks for sharing because it reminds us of home. We also live in the United States.
It's the first time I seen one of your videos and really enjoyed it. I would only suggest two others to always have a song or a poem ready to recite to people who are generous with their own songs. Whether or not you can, give it a go and it will always be appreciated. Even grunting out American Pie would be appreciated. The only other suggestion I would make is that after the fifth time they did not want to receive the money I would just let it go. These are proud people and like to give when they can. Looking forward to more videos.
