      Thanks for the videos.
I've been paralyzed for 42 years and all my wheelchairs have been old folding chairs.
I just bought a new rigid frame lightweight chair and am just now learning to transfer in and out of it.
Being 59 years old with a frozen worn shoulder makes it difficult and a bit scary, but the inspiration I've been finding in all these modern paraplegic vids had been great.
      Thanks! 😊

Thank you for sharing this, going from floor to chair is something I really struggle with. Any time I do a transfer from the floor to my chair I tend to do it barefoot which I see you've done too and I often end up with cuts to my feet due to having no feeling in my feet. Do you have any sensation in your feet and how do you prevent cuts to your feet when you're doing this in bare feet?

I've had to learn by trial and error as my condition is one that has gotten worse over time rather than acute injury, so these videos are really helpful (and interesting to see how other ppl do it anyway)
now have a chair with folding side guards (meaning they fold over the tires with pressure) which helps a lot in transfers!

wheelchair user, just had Tenex performed on my knees and we don't have room for a shower bench in our tiny, inaccessible apartment. this video is extremely helpful for bathing, as i was never taught how to perform any chair transfers - insurance wouldn't cover rehab for an ambulatory wheelchair user, despite the fact i can stand but not walk. [we're working on getting coverage!]
    thank you so much :)

  • @crazywheeler20

Hi Chelsie, thanks for the video. My floor-to-wheelchair transfer looks quite similar to yours.
First, I position myself in front of my chair on my knees and grab the top of the left frame with my left hand. Then, I make a fist with my right hand and place it at the front and in the middle (measured from left to right, if that makes sense) of my seat cushion. Next, I extend my right arm and push myself up, my head slightly turned and titled to the left. While pushing up, I turn my butt around 90 degrees, and then partly „sit“ on the right side of the frame and on the edge of my seat cushion for a brief moment, left hand still locked on the frame. After that, I place my right hand on the pushrim, release my left hand, lean back and pull on the pushrim to fully pivot my butt.
Of course, it‘s up to you, if you try this technique. Personally, I think it might be helpful to push off of your seat cushion, instead of pulling yourself up, holding on to your backrest. Your upper body should come up in a „more acute angle“ and rise above your chair. This should give you extra space in the area of your seat cushion to pivot your butt more easily.
Let me know what you think. Please note that I still can use my feet to push off of - sort of.

Great job! I can transfer independently but I do use a slide board for some transfers. I am 56 with tons of arthritis and not much flexibility anymore. It's much harder.

Hi, I think that you’re amazing! I somehow stumbled upon your videos and I started watching, you see I am an incomplete paraplegic T4... really sucks as I’m sure that you know. I’ve been this way since I got in a car accident that left me paralyzed at the age of 28 and I am just full of questions because I have only seen a couple of your videos and you do things so much more oh ... I guess I would say easily than I do! I mean EVERYTHING about you is easier so first of all I missed what level you are? Then I could go from there! Please...

  • @sunny4lady

Sorry to say, but people who ask if you sleep with your chair are very ignorant. Btw. I get the whole rods in the back thing, I too have rods to that fuse the back part of my L4 and L5 vertabraes and it really stiffens your back - I have back pain too from it.

your chair is very different, mine is an in general chair, not a custom one. Can't afford those kind of chairs yet. I can't get up from the floor at all, can't use my legs that well. I'll have to get a better chair and see if I can do what you are doing.
