- Pack your bags for "Carry-On," a lean, mean action thriller on Netflix. We're catching up with the latest from Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra ("Unknown," "Orphan," "The Shallows"), which stars Taron Egerton as a TSA agent who's stuck working Christmas Eve at LAX. When a mysterious voice (a chilling Jason Bateman) contacts him over an ear piece and tells him to put an obviously dangerous piece of luggage through security, he must figure out how to handle it while keeping thousands of travelers safe. Co-starring Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler and Theo Rossi. Streaming now.

I havent seen Carry On yet, but I did rewatch the first Die Hard today. Still holds up as one of the most perfect action movies ever put on celluloid. It made me think about these reviewers one criticism of Carry On, that it took too long to get going. Almost a full hour setting up the main characters. What is brilliant about Die Hard is that it tells you everything you need to know about the main characters before the opening credits even finish. And once they do, the action starts with a bang and never lets up. It is just the most economically brilliant script & direction by the great John McTiernan.
Okay you like Die Hard. But a much more appropriate comparison would be Die Hard 2.
Carry On is practically a remake of that film.
I'm amazed that, in listing Bateman's bad guy performances, Ozark did not come immediately to mind. He's a straight up protagonist villain there. He's also a protagonist villain in Bad Words and The Gift. Dude has done a lot of protagonist villain roles.
A real BANGER.
Finally an original movie. The masses are over continuously recycled movies. If this was in theaters it would’ve been a blockbuster!
I cant believe they went with the Die Hard 2 "Christmas Eve -busiest day of the year" trope. Almost verbatim dialogue, too. As soon as it happened-about the 59th minute-that movie jumped out at me.
If you missed that part you're a youngster.
Its a fun movie. We need to bring back silly action movies
That new western frontier show on Netflix looks pretty good
I had a good time too!!♥️
Jason Bateman was also a great villian in "The Gift"
Kinda the protag in that, but still great villain.
Ooh yes, that was a good one too.
I loved this movie. Great for a Netflix flick, 7/10
When it comes to Neeson/Jaume Collet-Serra/Christmas movies, I like Run All Night as well.
He was a mega creep in Juno
Suspense of disbelieve was completely lost when he when he mentally decides he's going to kill Hank. I don't think the average person would quickly go in that direction, least of which someone who aspires to be a cop.
I'd love this review just for the reference to "It's Your Move". Great review!
I just watched the movie and to be honest, it was just there. They made security in a major US airport look like crap
Just watched it. I'll never get those 2 hours of my life back. If you like stuff like fast and furious you'll probably like this movie tho
Ha, we do like the Fast & Furious movies!
where is the sonic 3 review

Long Beach over LAX every day of the week, no doubt. Happy Holidays!
It does make life easier!
loved this movie. was everything i want out of this kind of movie
Wasn't it fun?
Watched this last week and it was a very solid genre piece. Strong performances from the 3 main leads and a plot that doesn't stretch credibility too far.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Quickly forgotten if I am honest. Best to you and your families for the holidays and in 2025. BTW - we just watched Ghostlight and loved it!
Thank you and likewise, Rob!
I love love that you guys rate movies according to “what it says on the box” rather than some ethereal snooty “it is a FILM tho.” Your ratings make total sense in that context and give us all the information we’re actually looking for.
This isn’t really a ‘movies vs film’ thing, more of a ‘movies vs *content*’ thing because that’s what streamers like Netflix are in the business of making. It’s the equivalent of straight to video/cable. Bottom of the barrel stuff but nobody can tell anymore
@@timcardona9962 I feel like you’re trying to correct me but I don’t understand what you’re trying to correct. They liked this movie, so it’s a good movie for what it’s trying to be. Is there a problem with that?
@@422katieleigh huh? Nobody is correcting anybody; I am merely pointing out that todays Netflix/Amazon movie is the equivalent of what used to be called “straight to video/straight to cable”. These movies were understood to be of lesser quality and were treated as such and therefore not reviewed by major critics or considered by mainstream audiences. The streaming game has changed all that, the lines are blurred and now most folks can’t tell the difference between movies and “content” which drags down the collective taste and lowers the bar for quality. Just another sad result of streamers taking over
Jaume Collet-Serra is the king of this kind of trash action. More please.
We forgot to mention The Shallows, that's a great one too!
Wasn't aware of this one but it does look fun. I'll check it out, thanks for the recommend!
Hope you enjoy!
Damn. I thought this was an ... Up The Khyber kind of thing.
lol...Classics...except the "Carry on" crew have all been dead for years
I haven't enjoyed a fun film ride in a long time but his one did it. I don't mind holes or anything unrealistic it was so fun.
Nice review, we can give good scores just for enjoyment and not "quality".
I just finished watching "Carry On" and was pleasantly surprised. No, it's not "Die Hard", but it reminded me of it, and it was fun and enjoyable. I can't turn away from anything with Jason Bateman, and he plays a good villian, the stakes are high, action, shoot ups, and a good ending. Nothing wrong with this movie...
Carry-On is tremendously bad. I mean next level shit. It was as if it had been written by A.I. - “Write a thriller with ingredients of Die Hard, Phone Booth, and Collateral” the fact that this review is positive does not speak well of the critics’ taste.
Glad to hear this is fun. It's likely going to get thrown on while daughter and son-in-law are over on Christmas.
My guess afa score from you two was in the 6 range so I'm a bit surprised at the scores, maybe too much eggnog, lol. Congratulations on hitting 33K!!! Kudos to Christy for mentioning "Smoking Aces", a really fun movie.
Ha, no eggnog here. But Merry Christmas!
@@BreakfastAllDay Merry Christmas!!!
My brother recommended this, said it's like DieHard in an airport, I said "so like DieHard 2?"
It was not like DieHard, and I will not be taking anymore film suggestions from my brother. 😅
It sure aint, Die Hard 2 is good. This is a cheap rip-off using the exact same "Christmas Eve busiest day o the year airport trope"🤣
Is it similar to RED EYE? Another airport/airplane thriller I love
I thought a lot of Red Eye while watching it. If you go in expecting that tone, you’ll enjoy it.
I wish it were shorter but i love that car scene
Merry freaking Christmas everybody.
Fun movie BUT they used nasty, lazy AI editing in the car scene (where they fought) it was terrible
If you can actually explain what "AI editing" is, I'll give you a cookie. I thought for the budget this movie had, that scene was actually pretty great.
@gregkrazanski You can see the arms glitching through people, extending weirdly and moving through objects in the tumble scene. If you can find it pay close attention to it
I was really baffled by the big car action set piece in the middle of the movie and I was like okay, yes, this is what we are now doing, but now it just goes back to being a regular movie that was well played
I can't wait to see something that has a Die Hard (Christmas movie) vibe.
Jaume Collet-Serra is the king of B-movies. He almost feels like a modern Howard Hawks - he takes genre fluff and gives it his unique stamp and flavor.
Such a big fan and so glad to see him make a comeback from the bland corporate stuff he did to make a film as fun as Carry-on.
The Taking of LAX 123
Ha, very good.
Being from the UK what are Ho Ho’s ?
Cake and cream roll-ups. They’re tasty.
Arsenal is a tiny club.
Bateman was kind of a villain in that 2015 movie, The Gift.
Thank you for reviewing this. I was going to dismiss this film as just another one of those forgettable Netflix productions. I will actually give it a chance.
Did a crazy 42m views in just its 1st wkend on Netflix, only thing that did better all yr was the Jake Paul/Mike Tyson 'fight' with 46.6m views! Has done 55.1m views in its 2nd wk for a total of 97.1m views so far!
That's wild! It is super fun, though.
3.5/5 I thought it was a good time and very well done for the type of 🎥 it is. A lot of that comes down to Jason Bateman’s performance. Because I don’t think a lot of people picture him as a bad guy like this. His calm demeanor when you hear his voice adds so much tension because even tho he sounds fairly relaxed over the 📱 you know what he’s capable of. Admittedly the cg car crash/fight took me out of it for a bit (obviously you can’t shut down a portion of the freeway to do that crash but at the same time I’m of the mindset where just give me a wide shot of a car tumbling then cut back to them in the car post roll cage. I thought script wise it was smart in that whenever you wonder about a certain character they make sure to cut back to that said person.
Absurd movie unless you are around 12.
Loved it, surprised me, a throwback to no nonsense thriller, keeps moving, the tension constantly ramps up, very entertaining 😊
Yes, it's a fun one for sure.
Yeah, because when I find an ear plug I automatically put it in my ear. I love other people’s ear wax…
👍
Immediately after watching I called a friend and asked them to watch because I wanted his IQ to drop as much as mine. This film should be five minutes long. "Are you threatening my girlfriend Jason Bateman" ? Let me press this button and 20 cops will be here in two minutes. Oh and don't get me started on letting the plane taking off at the end. PS....missed opportunity not having the TSA dude from "Get Out" here. Merry Christmas !!!
I thought this was fun and entertaining. I really liked the leads and was glad to see Danielle having a good action filled time.
Got to say guys I loved it but I had no expectations it was going to be this good. My question is it a Xmas movie?
Yes, for sure! The terrorists wouldn't pull this nonsense on Arbor Day.
It suxs bad
Such a fun film ❤
Schill chanel
I like the casting of the villian. I wondered who it was and the reveal was great. Shame it’s spoiled in the review
Oh was it supposed to be a surprise? For me Netflix is giving it away by the thumbnail and also the brief preview.
Great film imo
The dialogue could have been written by a fourth grader, or maybe it was AI.
SNOB...relax

I kinda hated this movie. It was so boring and unrealistic. Typical Netflix slop 1/10
90% of this movie would’ve never happened in a real airport.
90% of ALL movies are unrealistic. Want realistic? Go watch a documentary. Movies are for entertainment..
couldn’t get past like 10mins
It was a fun movie! It won’t win any academy awards, but it’s a great escape!
It was a good action movie. It could have used a little humor. That's one thing that elevates Die Hard
7/10
Despite a few plot holes, it was an awesome movie. I was surprised how much I liked it.
It's a fun movie but it deserves and requires your attention to get its full effect. It's not so dumb that you can fold your laundry to it.
One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen
