    17:09 I'm not a heads up specialist at these stakes but risking 14 000 to pick up 8000.. That has to work so often to be profitable. Why an overbet and not a pot sized bet? For a pot sized riverbet do you expect to get snap called by hands that would fold to an overbet? Like KQ or ace rag?

    Why are you c-betting the J-8-6 monotone flop with A3 and no cards of the same suit? That board smashes his calling range that has to be literally one of the worst flops to c-bet.

    • @ninovalentijn
      @ninovalentijn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trance Vocals he wants bluffing hands on club runouts. as he would be betting Ac3x it makes sense to bet A3 without a suit as well. (I think)

    "If you're 4 betting 95 here you have way too many bluffs, I like some bluffs here but you want to be picking some better combos, maybe some 87s and 86s" I mean this literally means you're 4 betting 70% of hands or something ridiculous, please do a poker hands on this and analyse it as if it was someone else because you would be criticising the hell out of Tom Dwan making this play

    • @JohnSmith-cy8hq
      @JohnSmith-cy8hq 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "this literally means you're 4 betting 70% of hands" god damn you're dumb

    • @isaacscott4485
      @isaacscott4485 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok if you mean 95s is higher than top 70% you may be right, if not please explain. I'm not necessarily saying I agree with the statement but in poker hands videos Doug advocates raising hands based on their value and this hand has no removal effects and no connectivity to improve equity on a flop

    • @JohnSmith-cy8hq
      @JohnSmith-cy8hq 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it was a bluff

    • @isaacscott4485
      @isaacscott4485 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Smith fuck man you are stupid, have you seen any other of Doug's videos? The point I'm making that if another player made this play he'd be saying how bad of a hand it is to be bluffing with and there are better hands, like suited wheel aces or suited hands with more connectivity in general. If he's selecting the best non-calling hands to bluff-which is correct-then he'll be bluffing way way too many hands here and be very unbalanced

    • @JohnSmith-cy8hq
      @JohnSmith-cy8hq 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hahaha he can call with all those hands you muppet. Those are hands that can easily call and see a flop but would hate to face a 5bet and be forced off their equity. He can already defend with those hands by calling. So he needs to pick a few junky, but not that junky hands that he can 4b bluff with, like 95s.
      He would not be trash talking this 4b in poker hands (lol obviously).
      Suited aces and suited connectors are non calling hands when 3bet? You're so bad at heads up dude...

  • @mantaspetras
    @mantaspetras 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Doug, would it have made more sense to take a smaller-ish stab at the pot and make it look like a thin value bet trying to get paid off? Maybe 3800 on river? Couldve repped the full house? Since AK could have been in your range?

    • @arvidlundberg7119

    You should've bet the turn on that last hand , made it seem like you could be bluffing , why do you overthink the strategy sometimes ? Someone with a strong ass hand wouldn't check and give someone a free street, he would've folded and he wouldn't have made his hand on the river. I'm not a pro like you atm but to me the logical thing to do was bet if you're gonna bluff

    It would be a great match to watch, but without the commentary there is no reason to. Poker is an abstract game and the action takes place within the players heads. Of course Polk can't reveal any of his reads on these opponents, or on heads up in general, or just no reads about anyone he plays against for serious money. I'd rather watch him battle at NL200 and talk openly.
    Oh well, maybe in 30 years Doug Polk can revisit these matches and commentate on exactly what he was thinking.

  • @akashmultani3099
    @akashmultani3099 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I know you played it off like "sometimes you have to just go for it" and I you don't really care about the money, however let's assume you cared even a little, wouldn't you say the right play here is to just fold to his 3bet? 170 bigs deep, at the first blind level, sauce had hardly been 3betting. Except for a head ups match, this hand, by your own Upswing charts, is at the bottom of a raising range in most positions, why take a huge punt when you're so deep with this hand? Specially in position I believe it's either a fold or call and realize your equity post flop? Not that I know better or that you owe me anything but I have to say honestly that I'm a huge fan and a little disappointed that I wasn't able to see you boss your specialty. Seems like you ran really good the first round and then just punted this one off when you were well in the match to make a comeback.

    • @arvidlundberg7119
      @arvidlundberg7119 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      He needs 4bet bluffs and he uses hands like these that are slightly too weak to call the 3bet. Things like how much sauce has been 3betting recently is completely irrelevant.

    • @akashmultani3099
      @akashmultani3099 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't say recently, I was talking about this match, seems relevant enough. Not saying you have to automatically assume his 3bet in that hand is strong. But once he calls your 4bet bluff, calls a bet on a AK suited flop, you have to think he has something. Then a queen that completes both flush and straight draws comes in, how many hands is he folding here? Doug didn't even talk about what hands he was trying to get Sauce to fold. How many bluffs does Sauce show up with here? Stop being a blind fan boy, that was a badly played hand and he had no bluff targets. Just a hopeful all in and "FOLDDDDDD", seems like a theme for the series.

      No, how Sauce has played in the 50 hands or whatever it is up to this point is not very relevant. What my stance on Doug is is also irrelevant. What you fail to realize, and I will not go too in-depth on this, is that every hand strength is relative. So while three of a kind likely is good in a single raised pot, on this river, facing a 4bet, flop cbet and a river overbet, it is not neccesarily a very good hand anymore. There are tons of hands that Sauce can fold here. He has a lot of hand like Ax, Kx and maybe even some worse pairs. And even if we assume that Sauce calls more than the Minimum Defence Frequency like you claim he is, if Doug is balancing his range properly in this spot, Sauce will be exploited for not sticking to defending a-1. And since we don't know if Doug balances well here since we only have 1 hand and not a meta perspective, we can't really say bluffing in this spot is good or bad. The only thing we can discuss is if this hand is the right one to do it with. And that is another question.

      How important is balancing your 4-bets in a 25 hand match or whatever it is up to this point with like one 4-bet in the entire match? What exactly are you balancing at that point?

      Look up nash equilibrium poker stratgegies. It's about playing unexploitable and therefore automatically winning against anyone who doesn't do the same. It has nothing to do about table image or anything like that rubbish.

    Doug, wtf with that 95s? It was his first? 3bet preflop in this heads up, you 4bet with a crappy hand and just after this flop you are almost sure, you are way behind with his strong range hitting that flop a lot. If you just fold this hand after 3bet, you still could win the game instead of burning $25k.

    Dude that shove on the river with 9h5h was ridiculous! Are you even doing that with the nuts? Or betting 5k hoping for a call? No so easy when you don't run like a god! You still hit more sets than Roger Federer!

      Actually, he does shove monsters just like that. But based on how the match went (opponent calling bluffs with weak hands), I think Doug just had to be patient and somewhat tighter instead of 4-betting 95s.
