@@nikkicherry6559 Great players, but not a great team. Dino Baggio and Albertini were average at best central midfielders - nowhere near the level of Pirlo and De Rossi. Also, Sacchi's fixation with playing Signori (Serie A's top goal scorer) on the left wing was bonkers.But yes, Baresi, Costacurta, Maldini, Donadoni, Zola all great players, Mancini too, though he never quite shone for Italy. It was a shame that Roberto Baggio missed this match.
This German team was more than capable of winning the 94 World Cup, what stopped them was the most unbelievable few minutes against Bulgaria. Football is unbelievable, who'd think a team that was demolished 3-0 by Nigeria, would be the one to end Germany's reign as World champions.
I remember when these two teams were the best two teams in Europe. Combine that with Brazil and Argentina in Italy and you would have the teams that would absolutely dominate world football.
That is right if you look at the World Cup results from 1970 to 1994, or even until 2006.

Back in the day, Klisnsmann was the scoreman in the German soccer team. He was fast, and never missed any chance to score. Curiously, he became the US soccer team trainer.
The reason he became the USA soccer coach from 2011 - 2016 was mainly because
he has lived in the USA since 2000 having married a US girl (Debbie Chin in 1995).

I remember very well this game. Germany played very well and dominated the game. Italy scored undeservedly the first goal, and for once, Germany did not let themselves be discouraged and rapidly scored a couple of goals. I remember also that as soon as Germany scored the 2nd goal the overall level of play diminished considerably.
It was a friendly match, lmao.. your comment is funny. BTW in serious matches at the World Cup that year Germany was beaten 2-1 by Bulgaria at quarters, and Italy kicked out later Bulgaria (2-1) at the Semifinal. Italy lost at penalties with Brazil the Word Cup Final.

@@kirilmihaylov1934 Bulgaria had great players and a fantastic Team in 1994 but in the 1st half against Italy, honestly they did not see the ball and were lucky that Italy scored only two goals because there was also a post hit by Albertini and a great save by the goalkeeper Mihailov on a lob again by Albertini. The match was already closed after 25 minutes if there had not been the lucky goal on a penalty kick just before the end of the first half, which was more due to carelessness of the Italian rearguard than anything else. The second half was hard-fought but will be remembered above all for Baggio's injury and not for anything else as Bulgaria in fact had zero chances.
Germany 🇩🇪 in that Cup was the 4th of the final losing to Surprising Bulgária 🇧🇬 and Italy 🇮🇹 was the Final and lost to Brazil 🇧🇷

When Beckenbauer stepped down in 1990 he predicted that Germany would dominate world football for years to come. This was based on the assumption that all the East German players would join their World Cup squad that had just won in 1990. Unfortunately Germany picked a horrible coach and he remained the head coach for 8 years and ruined a great generation of players.
Erroneously, it is believed that all players who have participated in world soccer championships, have acquired such an experience on how to manage a national soccer team. Quite a mistake! Not all players possess skills to coach whether they became world champions.

Wieso der Fliegenfaenger Bodo Ilgner jemals im deutschen Tor stand ist ein Raetsel.
Weil er sowohl beim Beckenbauer (eigentlich wollte der 1990 Uli Stein nach einer phantastischen Saison reaktivieren, aber Neuberger und Sepp Maier legten Veto ein) und bei Vogts (Illgners Frau Bianca und Vogts Ehefrau waren dicke "Kumpel") eine LOBBY hatte. :-) Vogts hatte irgendwann nach 1996 ja geäußert, daß es 1994 einer seiner größten Fehler war, auch nach der verkorksten EM 1992 weiter auf Illgner zu setzen. Ob wahr oder nicht.. boh :-)

Du darfst nicht vergessen, dass Bodo Illgner als damaliger Weltmeister so etwas wie ein WM-Bonus hatte, der während der WM94 in den USA aufgebraucht war. Dass Bodo Illgner es trotzdem zu Real Madrid geschafft hat, habe ich nie ganz verstanden, auch wenn er zwischen 96/97, 97/98 & 98/99 die klare Nummer eins im Kasten von Real Madrid war. Erst seine vielen Verletzungen in der Saison 99/00, warfen ihn zurück, so dass auch er einsah, dass nach der Saison 00/01 sein Vertrag im gegenseitigen Einvernehmen aufgelöst wurde
