Finally some Zero Escape analysis! Really enjoyed doing this. As my Discord will know, I'm thinking about doing short analysis videos on TH-cam Shorts so any ideas let me know!

One of my favorite little music things in Zero Escape is the four note sequence for “Seek a way out” since it’s the most obvious use of the Morphogenetic sorrow leitmotif, but also because the four note sequence works in tandem with the four syllable phrase “Seek-a-way-out.” It also fits the four syllable phrase “Ze-ro-esc-ape,” but that’s more likely a coincidence since the Japanese name has six (Kyo-ku-gen-das-shu-tsu)

Oh wow never thought about the syllables. Even if it's just a coincidence, it's a great observation

duuuude, this video rocks! zero escape is one of my all-time favorite video game series and I'm so happy you covered it's OST! I've always considered it's music to be more atmospheric, but I never realized just how intricate and well-composed it really is. I swear that background synth in Recollection is also used in one of the Danganronpa games, but I could just be tripping, lmao
(slight spoilers below for those of you who haven't played any of the games)
I find it very cool that a lot of the tracks incorporate Morphogenetic Sorrow, since a core detail of the series is pretty much centered around the morphogenetic field, so it's almost like we're subconsciously being fed the leitmotifs through the morphogenetic field. does that make sense? idk i'm not a science guy, lmao.

Duuuude I knew ZE had a heavy emphasis on leitmotifs correlating with Morphogenetic Sorrow, but I didn't know there were THIS many tracks... right on for enlightening me!

A great breakdown of the musical identity of a (relatively) obscure series. Very well structured, loved the presentation, easy to understand for even a musical neophyte; you've got a really great head for this kind of content.
Earned a sub from me, at least.

Fantastic explanations! This is a series where I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to its music outside of the game, but it’s so distinct that you could start to imagine how other “anxiety tracks” could fit into the game when there’s even a bit of overlap

Always glad to see people talking about Zero Escape. As a non-musician it was great to get your breakdown of the repeated elements between songs and the different games. Ill also shout out my favorite ZE track - Septenary Game from 999. Its not QUITE panicked, but it has a ton of energy and forward momentum to it.

love this video a lot and it showed me a lot of things I didn't even notice especially as a non-musician!!!! i'll shout out one of my favorite tracks - Monitors (VLR). the tone of that track versus a lot of the other escape room tracks is so much more somber and depressing and it's really interesting. it still has the more mechanical/high-tech sound most of the tracks in VLR have but just listening to it makes me really sad. and i think it very much does fit the tone of the moment where it does play, as it only plays in the ending where MANY of the remaining players are dead (it's the leadup to Luna END) and Sigma and Phi are the only ones in this escape room at all. There's a bit of pessimism and sorrow at this point in the game because there are so few people alive (even less once they escape later Dio and K kill eachother) which really adds to it. it's an emotional track! it does also sound very mysterious and strange which is a really good companion to the I WAS YOU / WILL BE ME / SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING puzzle near the end of it. i dunno. i just think it's one of my favorite parts of VLR in terms of emotion and the power of orchestration
another i will also shout out is Trash Disposal (ZTD) because the tension and mechanical sounds in that one are realllly good. not as much to say but Fire as a fragment is one of my favorites in the entire of that game and the music REALLY adds to it

I'd _love_ if you did a video on the escape tracks! I've noticed there's a musical identity in the puzzle tracks that I have not heard in any other piece of music.
But I'm not a musician so I have absolutely no idea what it _is,_ and I'd love to find out more. I'm only an expert in _listening_ to the tracks (over 600+ hrs combined), not _understanding_ them.

Fantastic video, and great breakdown of the themes!! I can't believe I never caught that reference in Chill and Rigor 😭 I'd love to hear more about the escape themes if you do make that video!
(Also it still makes me so sad that ZTD doesn't use the Morphogenetic Sorrow motif at the start of escape rooms 😔)

Wow Thank you i Love this series and it's music and producing music! I aspire to be the best musician in my country Poland and been practicing everyday for at least 8 hours for 2 years (nearly daily with no life beside studying music theory, mixing, piano, guitar and percussion, and song structares) and your channel helps me with my plan. Thank you!

The idea of sonic identity isnt really a term ive heard of before but it makes sense. Like i can immeadiately tell when a song is from Atelier. But thats probably because the sound is insanely unique in video games.

I love this!! The music and general sound design from zero escape is some of my favourite in any video game. It evokes such a vivid sense of place for me. This was a great analysis, really interesting! I don’t know enough about music theory to have any ideas for future analyses, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on the puzzle themes.

Same, IMO the puzzle tracks are really underrated! They also make for _perfect_ coding or assignment-writing music!
I've listened to the puzzle tracks from VLR for over 500 hours, mainly for studying, and I love them all. (999's and ZTD's too, although I've listened to those less.) It's slightly annoying that the tracks are in such a unique "style" that I can't even find any music that scratches the same itch. I can't even describe the style myself though, I just know that it exists and that nothing else I've found is like it.
