They have very ordinary bike pedals that hurt the feet when you're constantly standing they need a full foot pedal because you're standing on it all the time! And it's very scary going down Hills not much braking power!
How is the braking? It looks like it would be something to be really careful with, being rear wheel braking and with that high centre of gravity is less than ideal one would imagine. Obviously front wheel braking would be a disaster tho lol.
Just brought a half bike in Australia all metal except for the handle bar piece very strange why only one piece not happy but also having trouble putting it together.???
It looks awesome! But it’s just too expensive:-( The price is within the XIAOMI Electric Scooter range and a few others too. Perhaps the pricing strategy needs to be revisited. Just my humble opinion.
with a halfbike you have everything you'd ever want and some. It's insanely fun to ride EVERYWHERE. people love to see it and ask about it. The more you practice the healthier you feel. one of the most beautiful and life changing experiences.
So far, I’m struggling getting the hang of it since I’m scared lol I Spent the money though so I’m determined to learn and make it apart of my exercise routine
a few months ago i had my saddle post stolen from my bike. I had to pedal while stading for around 3kms (to get a replacement). It was terrible, so demanding on the muscles, i think this is really the same
I used to think that about my scooter. Now I fly down hills cos I know I cna stop fast on its front and rear brakes. becaus eI know how to shift my body weight. If you just stand bolt up right on a scooter and slam on brakes you WILL go over handle bars. Its likely the same with this. SImply brake and use your body position to counter the brakes pull forwards. Simples.
I tried a half bike in Woodland Hills California, it felt rickety and felt like a death trap. It only had brakes on the back wheels and since the bike balance and thrust are forward if you fall forward the brakes are useless. The handles are very small and tight. There is a market for anything, and with time it looks like folks are having fun on it, but it was not for me! Since I was looking for a seatless bike that could go 30 or 50 miles, I bought the Elliptigo SUB and also the MSUB and have never looked back.
Halfbike 3 has front brakes which work really well, but you have to be careful if braking hard and shift your body weight backwards in order not to fall over the front handle bar (which happened to me on my second ride). Now after 6 months of using it, it feels much easier and I don't have any trouble balancing it. It just feels natural and I can even track stand it for as long as I want. It does take some time to get used to it and I think most people who just try it once, or even for a month, will think it is too hard both balancing it and riding it for a long ride more than 3km. But as you get more accustom to it and use it regularly you become stronger and it becomes easy and fun riding it even up-hill
I think the number one problem would be braking. Simple enough to fit mudguards, but you can't get around the awkward physics of trying to stop this thing.
Have been a cycle courier, and enjoying cycling for most of my life. I seriously don't see this as a safe design. I think its a terrible idea for a bike.
I made a similar prototype a few years ago. Mine had a seat. I made a bigger deal on more compact folding similar to the Brompton (which I own and ride). The big limitation I found was the turning circle, which would have been too large for safe and good manoeuvrability in traffic. That and the CoG position of the rider is too far forward, making pitching too easy on hard braking.
Maria Colls I don't think they are trying to replace the traditional bike, just add a fun bike to the market. I see on their website that they even admit that a distance of 3 -5 kilometers is about as far as they recommend you travel as it is tiring, so definitely no use as a courier's bike.
@@thePeterpumpkin68 there's' no novelty whatsoever. As you acclimate to the halfbike, it becomes more of an extension of you, rather then an external device you use. I liken the feeling of a full workout, to that of swimming. Because it's the only other low impact activity I can think of off the top of my head that involves your entire body that way, and more importantly your brain. Being in an upright position, a more natural and intuitive position has many benefits to being hunches over like in a regular bike. Actually becomes more enjoyable as you adapt to the device. You become stronger, and eventually you complete distances with the halfbike you would of never thought possible. It sparks the interest of everyone who sees it, and has motivated me to become more active in my life. probably the best thing overall, is that it has sparked my imagination and interest all over again. It motivates me to go out and ride the bike, blowing off some steam and changing gears from a normal busy life schedule. I can sit and talk about it all day, but until you've actually tried one of these, any conjecture you make will most likely be wrong. It's unlike anything else.
@@daviddahl83 lol, yea since they are the engineers and actual physicists that it took to create this marvel of human creation. such a beautiful invention and gift to humanity. Yet everyone here judges it without even trying.
Has a turning radius of a 18 wheel transport truck, stopping distance of a Goodyear blimp and the comfort of doing air chairs. No fun, dangerous novelty that collects dust.
No I have not owned one, but I have had to stand while doubling a person and over long distances your quad muscles get pumped out. When you also consider this design is similar to bicycles that were first invented with very large front wheels and the weight distribution of these bikes sent most riders over the handle bars, especially down hills or if they hit a bump. They are a neat novelty, but impractical and dangerous. After expending more energy than normal, the rider is susceptible to fatigue which can cause the rider to transfer their weight through their arms to the handle bars creating a new centre of gravity more in favour of going over the handle bars. Going up or down hills poses even more dangers. Braking is also limited with just back braking and do to the fact of the small radius of the back wheels. The only positive about this bike is the fold up option for office workers in the city. This is the target market and I would argue should be the only market.
If you try to turn sharply and or at high speed, your chance of going over the handle bars in greatly increased. Bikes have evolved from this old fashion design for good reason.
@@PJM454 it's so excellent when people with absolutely 0 frame of reference speak on things they don't know about. You can't compare the turning at high speeds to that of a regular bike, since this turns more like skiis or a skateboard. This is a further evolution of a bike, being the owner of one I can say with confidence you are ignorant to what the halfbike is capable of. there's less danger of flipping over the bars than with a bicycle, their main target audience is people looking to have fun learning a new form of human transportation. you're looking at it as a novelty, but what price can you put on improved health and improved happiness in your life directly associated with using the halfbike.

Dangerous! No weight on the back means if you have to stop quickly you're going over the bars, head first!
How do you go over the bars quickly when there is no frontbrake?
Edeljokaa because braking exerts a forward force on your body and most of your mass is in the top half. The shitty short handlebars are a problem too.
Which is why the brakes are only on the rear...
