"Alice" is Arisu. In Japanese you pronounce Alice as Arisu because the Japanese language does not have a L in their alphabet. So they pronounce Ls as Rs, thus Alice becomes Arisu. There are lots of characters whose names symbolize a character or thing in Alice in Wonderland. Even the names that are Japanese and seem to have no relation to Alice in Wonderland actually mean something relating to Alice in Wonderland if you find out the translation. XD

Alice in Borderland is probably one of Netflix‘s best shows, it’s top notch
It has such an interesting set up that just makes you curious how this all happened in the first place plus it’s just so tense since none of them wanted to participate but are literally forced if they want to survive and they have to figure out the rules of the game while already in the game
AiB is my favorite among death game survival series. The games are genius, they keep on the edge of my seat to see the ending, it’s more cinematographic and grand. Also the mystery, thriller and suspense added with the gore is totally my style
This game was definitely one where having some kind of mathematical/geometrical intelligence was needed. But it also helped to be alert and have good memory.

The smart one is Alice, coz his name is Arisu - "有栖". Alice - "アリス" and Arisu - "有栖" are pronounced identically

The main male character's name is Arisu.
Start of Episode 1, the game Arisu is playing, his Game Username is ALICE. Alice read in Japanese is Arisu, which also happens to be the main character name.
There will be characters in the show where you can reference it to Alice in Wonderland.
Also at the start of the episode 1, Alice has geometry and car books and magazines in his room which shows that he is interested in it. In addition, Arisu has a photographic or Eidetic memory from scenes showing he recalled what he saw clearly. These helped him remember and recognize the BMW he saw before entering the building to play the game and figure their way out of the game.

That's right. Alice In Borderland is more in the sci-fi/fantasy genre while Squid Game is more of a social commentary and its strength is not so much in the games but in the characters and the relationship between them. Btw Alice refers to Arisu, the gamer dude.

AIB is different to SG for me, unlike what other's said. SG is much more like As The God's Will, a japanese death game movie premiered in 2014. Just like SG, As The God's Will centered on the childhood games. Even the first game is sort of on the same format. Also, the games in both movie/series have the specific rule unlike AIB, that you have to decipher the rule first or what the game is all about just to win it.

They actually didnt shut down shibuya to film aib. They used a greenscreen for the whole shibuya.
We watched a "making of" video about it today. They did a damn great job at building this show

More creative, yes. Realistic? No. Squid Game could feasibly happen IRL. AiB is definitely more anime-ish in it's elements.

Just think about alice and wonderland.. the story literally same but different..
This show isn't like Squid Game, and because of that I dont like to compare. Squid Game had a lot more depth and thematically it was totally different. They were desperate enough to choose to be there whilst in Alice, they were technically, if we remember from the initial bathroom scene (where we assume they were 'taken' somewhere for now) against their will. They never chose to play, they technically have to in order to survive.
But I guess in a sense yes, they're both in the 'survival game' subgenre of tv shows, but I still dont like comparing. It's also really 'anime-ish' in its creation (it's based on a manga which ive read, up until the chronological end of season 1). So it sort of uses the anime-trope that you need to creatively calculate/use your intelligence/resources in order to survive, as opposed to Squid Game, where it's all children's games, not requiring that level of intelligence to play and win - though of course, intelligence is obviously an asset. Another good story is this manga called "Liar Game", really good, but it gets SUPER complicated with math and stuff...it gets hard to follow at some point. They made a Japanese and a Korean "Liar Game" tv series if you guys are interested enough.
Btw, Im not sure if you were kidding at the end or not (if you were i apologize in advance) but the main character is Alice/'Arisu', not the girl at the end on the rooftop. This is a smart, tense show with well written characters, creative games and, as you no doubt already expect, it get's pretty dark. I'm excited to see your reactions for the next episodes
