Done vinyl, done virtual so have some insights. Mills is a genius and has a practiced dexterity that few mortals can match. His speed of thought is as quick as his speed of hand, and that's what sets him apart from many of his peers. (And yes, I'm fully aware that he's worked on the line-ups in his crates like we all have.) That blend he does around the track "Detached" between 26 - 28 minutes is just sublime.
Reminds me of the one time I have seen him in Leiden Netherlands, a long time ago. Was absolutely bangin'. Unfortunately the venue had crazy time limitations for parties. So he had to stop exactly at 0:00 or maybe it was 1am. Everybody was screaming for more. But the police would confiscate his records and equipment if he'd continue. But it was a memorable night for me to see one of the greats.
brilliant!! Skill Level: Legendary Wizard! Every set that I had the privilegie of standing near Jeff is unforgettable... I just need to turn the volume up and close my eyes... and I´m there again! that ... is Art! ^_^
Have to laugh at all the armchair DJ's on here ripping on the occasionally slightly off-sync mixing. That's life at 3 a.m. at the Music Institute with 300 people inside and 100 more waiting to get in - you can't see in because the glass is totally fogged up, dripping - but you can hear it -Shit! Jeff Mills is starting and you're still 20 people back in line... Oh well. Guessing most of the critics weren't even alive then. I've seen Mills bang out beats on the body of the turntable with his finger when a record skipped until he could flip the fader. He would let his spent records grow in a big pile at his feet he was playing so fast as The Wizard. Mills is from a different time, a different dimension. Alien DNA X Detroit for the win.
all of you "this guy should practice sum": break out a pair of turntables, a mixer and headphones, hit record and start busting out techno 20 tracks an hour for 45 minutes. after that, add a third 'table and bust 35 tracks an hour. post results.
No train wrecks in this mix. Just making the decks dance. On the fly mixing is very hard. I use to practice on three at the house and play out two at the club's, wax and cds.
Well when it comes to US techno actually a lot of the detroit techno and midwest acid stuff and also a lot underground stuff out of europe was MEANT TO BE MIXED on 3 Decks! That's the real way to do it, endless creativity if you can do it! You can play like 20-25 mins only on 3 tracks, if you mix it correctly it sound sickkkk!
whilst you all seem to be arguing the toss about Jeff's DJ'ing prowess, am I wrong in saying that every record played here is written/produced by the man himself?
I love these mix videos; he's like a superhero. I hate being the guy to ask this, but what's the track at 1:30? I know it's by him, I just don't know the name. Thanks.
Funny this, I used to go see Mills and co at every showing they had at the likes of Buggedout, Voodoo, Orbit, Sankeys, Atomic Jam..you fucking name it, we all knew he couldn't mix for toffee, never has been able to when it comes to vinyl! But his track selection and taste in music is so spotless that you couldn't hold him accountable for the insane amount of train crash mixes he did. Oh and all that stupid shit he does with his spider fingers haha
i agree to a certain extent but part of the genius of his sets is the sheer momentum they have due to the insanely quick mixes! he's on 3 decks, bringing in new tunes almost every minute! it's fucking hard to avoid some elephant clip-clop when you do that! I wouldn't say he "can't mix for toffee!" it's just not a priority for him!
images are obviously jeff mills and video looks is "exibithionist" but what you hear there does not seem jeff mills! It seems his new axis music, but the mix is rubbish. ¿¿Is it really mixed by jeff mills or you recorded it kentin konectik??
i don't understand 'his whole being' crap... it's just a video of an artiste who exceptional techincally at mixing... which is what most of us watching this like. if you want idolatory then type 'justin bieber' and knock yourself out.
He's an amazing DJ but the thing is not that many like the music he spins - it's very underground - it's not deadmau5! If he DJed SHM etc people would go nuts!
Almost every mix goes off a little … I dunno - I looks dope, the whole setup and all … Jeff Mills is a legend, no doubt, but this isn't like best thing ever … its bleep bleep ting ting … and a lot of the mixes going off a little here n there …. good presentation … I'll give presentation 9.5 out of 10 .. not sure where everyone is pretending they "know about" here … Hypercat seems to have the most on point view … some guy is talking about a SYNC button .. r u serious? That's not even DJing … Sync button? lol
I play vinyl .. and my mixes don't go off like that every time .. especially if you are being filmed! C'mon man - he couldn't practice that set once or twice before …
Gavintech Im not saying that, of course you can keep vinyl in time but you cannot help but nudge it a little, also the style of music he is playing is more obvious when nudged... Most people are more forgiving when the DJ plays a straight vinyl set.
What to say? 3 decks, non sync button and full vinyl. The Wizard is a legend. End of story. :P

The best dj around the world.. much respect for the godfather of techno

So artistically skilled with his hands. 3 x 1200's & fx. It's a shame new digital hardware auto-bpm's.
brilliant!! Skill Level: Legendary Wizard! Every set that I had the privilegie of standing near Jeff is unforgettable... I just need to turn the volume up and close my eyes... and I´m there again! that ... is Art! ^_^
3 patines s.v.p. !
thx 4 the share Kentin. Bonne soirée!

My youth!
En mi humilde opinión, no es que no queden, es que nunca ha habido nadie como él.
all of you "this guy should practice sum": break out a pair of turntables, a mixer and headphones, hit record and start busting out techno 20 tracks an hour for 45 minutes. after that, add a third 'table and bust 35 tracks an hour. post results.

Some don't understand this man, but I do, and always have.

I love 'Humana' at 19:00, I think it's my favourite Jeff Mills track, I love that electronic pulse sound in the background
God at work.
No train wrecks in this mix. Just making the decks dance. On the fly mixing is very hard. I use to practice on three at the house and play out two at the club's, wax and cds.

I remember seeing him at Sankeys and he started with Knights of the Jaguar and fucked up the mix into the next track..everybody cheered!
Yeah, was that the all nighter around 2002/2003?
yes it was around that time

mit drei platten
3 turntables and all the great work not impress you bro ?
you have it wrong pal, simultaneously mixing 3 turntables, not many can pull this feat off
Middle Finger To All The Haters/Jealous 1s.
Well nobody cares how much you like it or not. I'm sure you'd think that way of your favorite "artist" as well. Don't contradict yourself.
too bad.. last time i saw him, he was playing with cdjs. quite disappointing considering his legacy
at 7 min hes all over the show doesnt know if hes coming or going
That's the point.
i don't understand 'his whole being' crap... it's just a video of an artiste who exceptional techincally at mixing... which is what most of us watching this like. if you want idolatory then type 'justin bieber' and knock yourself out.
E.T
he sure is.. you don't even know what dj'ing is
He's an amazing DJ but the thing is not that many like the music he spins - it's very underground - it's not deadmau5!
If he DJed SHM etc people would go nuts!
why didn't a professional hide the fucking wires...
cuz it need a wizard to, but hes actually busy
Almost every mix goes off a little … I dunno - I looks dope, the whole setup and all … Jeff Mills is a legend, no doubt, but this isn't like best thing ever … its bleep bleep ting ting … and a lot of the mixes going off a little here n there …. good presentation … I'll give presentation 9.5 out of 10 .. not sure where everyone is pretending they "know about" here … Hypercat seems to have the most on point view … some guy is talking about a SYNC button .. r u serious? Every mix goes off a little - because hes playing vinyl. Sync'ing is DJ'ing but there is no such thing on Turntables.
I play vinyl .. and my mixes don't go off like that every time .. especially if you are being filmed! C'mon man - he couldn't practice that set once or twice before …
Every mix goes off more than a little. Never been impressed by this. If you can't do it right, don't do it at all.
Neil Oughton So no one mixed well before digital/sync? Could have fooled me.
Gavintech Im not saying that, of course you can keep vinyl in time but you cannot help but nudge it a little, also the style of music he is playing is more obvious when nudged... Most people are more forgiving when the DJ plays a straight vinyl set.
hes good but i prefer THE JACKMASTER FARLEY FUNKIN KEITH
No matter how legendary Mills is, he is not one of the best DJs around.
