Seriously amazing podcast!!! I usually listen to these while laying down at night for sleep, because your guys voice together is the perfect bed time story. But this time I had to stop and listen to it this morning because of it being so awesome
Okay - I've heard the whole thing twice now and this gets my vote for *_the_* best asoiaf fandom presentation ever. It's taken a while for my obsession with the Battle of Fire to equal my obsession with the Battle of Ice, but this episode has done the trick. The war correspondent approach was a brilliant breakthrough with endless possible future applications and the concluding roundtable was also riveting and full of lightbulb-over-the-head moments. Hats off to all five of you. Bring on E16 on Danaerys Stormborn! That will be one for the ages.
This is so well made holy shit. So glad Ive found u. Ive listened to all ur episodes in 4 days. Cant wait for u to upload a new one. Would love an episode on the land east of the dothraki sea and the red waste. Great stuff u guys. I will defiently share this with all my friends
This was so great on so many levels! Cleaver idea! Funny (the commercials) and informative. LOVED IT! Thank you guys again for all the effort you put into these!
You guys! I cant begin to thank you for all the hard work you did by making such an amazing show. The sound effects, the music, the readings! Also, you managed to capture the massive, massive scope of the battle of fire. I hadnt read the WOW sample chapters previously, so when the Ironborn appeared instead ofthe Volanteen fleet I was all giddy and excited! You were wonderful!
Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that opening headline "with the usurper Stannis Baratheon hold up in any icy crofters' village and going nowhere ..." So sweet to lift us back into a story that makes sense. Oh man - I love that "CNN" background music, the crowd ambience, and the embedded war correspondent idea. You guys have outdone yourselves. Oh my God ... ALL of the music is so good - the stuff behind the Meereen backstory segment is perfect. This is a quantum leap forward. Now I'm up to the part where the breaking news comes in and yolkboy is dodging pale mare-infected corpses. This is just too good to be true! Already I've gotten more thrills from this that the last two seasons of that wretched show combined. "will they know one side from the other?" - well, Benioff & Weiss's Disney Dragon knew - Martin may not have had Barney the Dragonsaur in mind, however
Kevin Moore thanks so much! Very high praise which we appreciate tremendously. Very glad I didn't get tapped to be an embedded correspondent though ;) -LG
Lady Gwyn somebody's gotta be the anchor. But seriously - this is so so so good - I think you should seriously consider adapting this approach elsewhere - I can just imagine the embedded correspondents freezing their asses off outside the crofter's village with the wind whistling in the backgroundor going under cover in the crypts of winterfell or the citadel. Also, the sound editing on this one is sublime - it sounds very realistic without making the voices less intelligible.
I can't even begin to describe how much pleasure I derived from this episode! I'm so not a podcast person, and prefer to peruse the Reddit and Westeros forums in my downtime, but something about the two of you just soothes my soul 😍 Brynden and his expert analysis was a boss addition as well. While I love all of your episodes, this one in particular made me laugh and smile and reflect. Radio Westeros summed up in one word: DOPE.
I should clarify that the additions of both Battles of Fire I can enjoy listening too are Excellent. The different styles and complementary analytic approaches your respective channels have are so diverse, the one battle turns into multiple battles. Brynden B Fish's insight on H.O.W The Battle of Ice certainly complements both.
Wow! That was fantabulous. You definitely pushed the boundaries in a totally successful creative way.The production was marvelous and the content was superb. The collaboration is a harmonic convergence. The music was perfect and I am so relieved Yolkboy and Bryndenbfish returned safely. I enjoyed Aziz's intel on the Ghiscari and all of you making Essos easier to understand. If a speech could win a war, Barristan's "red dawn" speech is it. Your theories and summation are excellent as always. I especially liked your views on Brown Ben Plumm, Shavepate, and Victarion. Dany may not take Victarion's "smoking hand"(classic) in marriage but Rhaegal may find it a charred delicacy she cannot refuse. Thank you so much. I don't know how you did it with all of your work on History's book to show episodes, but I'm impressed. You must have a glass candle. Cheers.
This episode has to be the best explanation anyone has done for any topic on ASOIAF on youtube. It's fun, informative, well edited and produced, and imaginative. Thank you for producing this. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Wow Yolkboy, my Lady! Amazing work you two (as well as Aziz and other guests). I've seen the majority of your videos, but I have to say, since the release of episode 9 every video posted has been extremely entertaining and enlightening.
You guys really raised the bar with this one, and that says a lot given your previous pods have been so excellent. Keep this up and radiowesteros will reach legendary status within the Fandom. !
I can't believe the work you guys put into this. Fantastic. Hey Yolkboy, love your ASOIAF analysis and theories. Just read the Sheira Seastar daughter theory, very convincing. Hardly tinfoil hat worthy. Clever Egg ...not Aeg
This is a terrific production. I imagine the hours it must have taken to put this all together, and I just wanted to let you all know how much it is appreciated. Well done!
Thanks again to BryndenBFish for (once again) massively increasing my enjoyment of these books. I love the idea of characters paralleling earlier relatives - Tyrion as Tywin writ small, etc.
Incredible podcast. Love the format. This dissection of the battle of fire is so on point, so consistent. I wouldn't expect anything less from you guys.
If I could give more likes to this video I would. It was great, I thought I loved this Radio Format with the faux commercials and messages , but now I need to invent a new word because this is definitely more loved than the others :)) During the Battle, I thought It would be interesting if you'd do obituaries for the death of the characters, but then I figured that there are so many deaths that it would probably turn to gloomy :)) Great JOB! Can't wait for other battle news :D
I have been depression binging all RW episodes this month and this is my vote for the very best!! Thank you for your commitment to an excellent product
Ok WOW!! I never praise cast like this. This cast was so good I had to pull car over and just sit and finish it. Your cast or just great. No way you only have 3k subscribers. Please keep this up. I love it
Ahh I remember when I first discovered them. You have a lot of great material ahead! They just put out a new episode (well in june, but I just now found out about it)
wow... i was walking with my dogs and listened to the podcast... but after 1 hour i decided to walk a little bit longer... and longer... and longer :) great work!!! this was the best spoiler i had in my life
The Battle of Ice in this exact style, particularly Radio Westeros's format. The Frey voices, namely Ser Hosteen falling from the wall, bunjee cords advertised, possibly Bolton's providing their defence on grounds for neglect, I can hear them now. Stable roof insurance and the Astapori representatives in conjunction with the Iron Bank offering loans of Unsullied and Gold. Bodyguards to prevent further 'accidents' like Little Walders. Also Ice lake insurance and adventure fishing(risking falling into ice lakes for lack of food). Though Roose has too much strength now. All these collaborations are enriching my Asoiaf experience. Brynden B Fish and Westeros history Battle of Ice has been a great addition, the analysis is so diverse. Excellent
Yet again another good show keep up the good work. I have a suggestion. How about bloodraven and the children of the forest. And if they use in brand for their own ends?
Radio Westeros fantastic coverage of the battle of fire and kudos to Yolk Boy for going where the battle is thickest. Not even Anderson Cooper or Geraldo Rivera have the guts to travel to Meereen. Tip of my cap to you good sir and wag of my finger to the lame stream media!!
So creative I only wish we could have seen yolk boy interview baristan and bryden interview blood beard as new correspondents hearing plum be interview would've been great too and make it seem even more like a news report.
as I keep listening they keep getting better. this was the best format so far you all rock. What about Victarion and Brown Ben ending up as the other dragon riders? Would be something George does.
Love it guys, a really original way of getting the material out! A few questions, that maybe you can help me with. 1. The Shave Pat, before Danaerys, was he like a low level Meereenese nobleman, just not that high up? (sort of like the Targaryens in Old Valyria) did he own slaves before Dany came? 2. Are all of the Volantine triarch against Dany? I thought at least one of the Triarchs worshiped R'hllor, and therefore was for Dany, thinking she was Azor Ahai
John Lanouette Thanks! The Shavepate (aka Skahaz mo Kandaq) is indeed a Meereenese nobleman. His shaved head indicates his support for the Dany's new regime. I don't know if it's mentioned that he owned slaves, but would assume he did. Prior to ADwD two of the three triarchs were "elephants" (men of the merchant class) and at least one of them apparently has been bought by Illyrio Mopatis. But in ADwD there is an election going on, the results of which we don't yet know. It's assumed the three candidates are all "tigers" because, among other things, Moqorro tells Victarion he has seen Volantis siding with the tigers in his flames. But the slaves of Volantis, who worship R'hllor and are likely to support Dany, are definitely a wild card in the situation since they outnumber the free citizens by a wide margin.
I've never understood what GRRM was thinking when he came up with the Unsullied. Castrating a male before puberty would lead to an eternal infant, lacking in a man's full strength and never developing secondary sexual characteristics. They would have high-pitched child-like voices their entire lives, and would have the muscle tone of housewives. It would make more sense to castrate them after manhood, or let them keep their beans, if not their franks. (In either case, this presentation was really well put together. The voice acting was a bit novice, but for podcasters who probably don't have any theatrical training or experience, it was laudable. Well done with the background sound effects as well.) I think the "beware the crow" part of the old premonition was the be wary of the Storm Crows, not the Crow's Eye. The 'sea of blood' likely will just reference the aftermath of the Slaver's Bay battle, and with Rhaegal flying overhead, it's pretty clear that it's gonna get bloody out there. The Dothraki...I REALLY doubt it'll be the one Dany finds at the end of DWD. I mean, the Battle of Fire presumably takes place fairly soon after Dany flies away. What kind of teleporting, super-fast horses do Jaquo's forces ride? It'll probably take them at least a week to get there, and that can only take place after Dany somehow wins them over. I don't think Dany or those Dothraki will appear until long after the Battle of Fire is over. If Dany shows up during the thick of it, it'll be on Drogon, and she'll be alone.
Hey question no one ever address any former unsullied soldiers in the world that were already sold before the dragon queen arrived at Astapor slave city ????
I hate to be negative, but u gotta say this, firstly I do appreciate you are trying to make a production out of making the reports, but I really struggle with the crowd noise to make out the reports, any chance of a mp3 without the crowd noise? love the fake ads and the readings, its just I cannot follow with the background noise. Love the show/channel, keep up the good work
Macabre216 thanks for the feedback and we're sorry the sounds detracted from your enjoyment of the content. Unfortunately we have no way of easily separating the vocal tracks from the sound design. Hope you stick with us for future episodes though :)
Macabre216 That's odd because I often have that same complaint about youtube presentation but I found the background sound on this one to be excellent - it didn't distract - in fact it greatly enhanced the experience. For me, the voices just purr through, completely audible. I'm listening through a PC soundcard with good powered speakers. What are you listening on?
ok ha "live coverage" was awesome my friends!!! I hate to ask but I have two videos on my channel. Really short. 1. Street band playing GOT them song 2. My daughter and I playing Star Wars theme on a fisher price xylophone. It would rock if you guys (and Lady) watch and like them! Keep making your great videos!!!
Yolkboy as the Tattered Prince is just brilliant. 😅 Really enjoyed the whole 'reporting live from Mereen'!
Seriously amazing podcast!!! I usually listen to these while laying down at night for sleep, because your guys voice together is the perfect bed time story. But this time I had to stop and listen to it this morning because of it being so awesome
A lot of people say they listen at night! Anyway thanks for listening and commenting ;)

The Almighty Loaf Thanks so much Loaf! Will consider the East maybe one day ;)
Radio Westeros What will your next episode be about?
The Almighty Loaf Dany
Just found this looking through your back catalogue. What a fun way of presenting the story. Love it
Absolutely love the format for this episode!!!! Kudos!!!
Honestly one of the best podcasts I've ever listened to!!! Thanks so much for your hard work!
I don't know if there are podcast awards, but you guys have outdone yourselves. Fantastic episode! Bravo!!

this is one of my favorite episode's, thank you guys for the awesome collaboration!
Wonderful stuff. Thanks Lady Gwyn, Yolkboy and Brynden, heaps of fun!
+Levin Mulder Thanks for listening Levin! Was fun to make too.
Thank you for this episode! This may be the event I am excited for in TWOW. This was an exhilarating listen!
Absolutely EPIC! You make the wait for TWOW so much harder! Love ya work! TOTAL RESPECT!

I guess I didn't put this together before but both the ice and fire battles are filled with turn cloaks and iron born royalty are at both.
Alex Willer thats a really great point

The different styles and complementary analytic approaches your respective channels have are so diverse, the one battle turns into multiple battles. This is my favorite episode. I've heard it so many times. You guys are great.

Rob Huck Thanks Rob, appreciate that. It did take a long time to make but we all enjoyed the process! Hope you keep listening - yolkboy
I love your content, yolkboy and lady gwyn, this episode was fun, it had that old school radio camp(in a good way), a fun listen for sure

Well done guys. This will get me through my Saturday work day.
Its a shame I cant re-like this on my re-listen of your catalog.....
Really enjoying my time here.... again.
wow... i was walking with my dogs and listened to the podcast... but after 1 hour i decided to walk a little bit longer... and longer... and longer :) great work!!! this was the best spoiler i had in my life
+Thomas B. Anderson Thanks Thomas, and hope your dogs enjoyed the long walk ;)

this was so awesome! I got way too excited listening to this at work. thank you for this!
Yeeeyyyyy new episode!!!!! Thank you.
Awesome production !! Love your guys work!
Awesome Radio Westeros
Nice work as usual!
Yet again another good show keep up the good work.
I have a suggestion.
How about bloodraven and the children of the forest.
And if they use in brand for their own ends?
Best newscast around!!
best podcast ever!!!
Please do more of these!! Amazing episode!
This was brilliant guys!well done!
Better than a lot of professional overfinanced radio productions.
I just listened to this episode, and it was a fun but different thing to listen. :)
Gods I love Radio Westeros!
Can you guys post Sir Barristan's speech in its own video? Thanks and props on posting the single best podcast episode on ASOIAF ever!
+Marc Joseph Well if Valyrian blood is needed, BBP is then in a great position as Dany would be short of options.
+Radio Westeros with that as a prerequisite then maybe BBP and Tyrion(aerys maybe)
and wouldn't Dothraki know better than to take on Dany's 8000 Unsullied?
Love it guys, a really original way of getting the material out! A few questions, that maybe you can help me with. 1. The Shave Pat, before Danaerys, was he like a low level Meereenese nobleman, just not that high up? (sort of like the Targaryens in Old Valyria) did he own slaves before Dany came? 2. I don't know if it's mentioned that he owned slaves, but would assume he did. Prior to ADwD two of the three triarchs were "elephants" (men of the merchant class) and at least one of them apparently has been bought by Illyrio Mopatis. This is pure Gold. 😳😍💕👑👏🏽👏🏾🙌🏼 You guys, you are on fire. 🔥🔥🔥
thanks, we hope you continue to enjoy the catalogue ;)
Radio Westeros: I will! Thanks for your work guys. 🤗💛
Awesome job guys! Like how you all stayed in character. Is radio westeros on podapps or itunes?
Nick KoloZ Yes we are on iTunes-- itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/radio-westeros-asoiaf-podcasts/id892536753?mt=2
Very cool episode! thx a lot!
Brilliant. What's the music behind Ser Bazza's speech?
This was so much fun!
wow this was a fun episode!
Fun to make too! 😃
thx for new vid
I love this how creative!!!
Well done with the background sound effects as well.)
I think the "beware the crow" part of the old premonition was the be wary of the Storm Crows, not the Crow's Eye.
This is pretty cheesy but I friggin love it. Now I have to listen to all of these.
ok ha "live coverage" was awesome my friends!!! I hate to ask but I have two videos on my channel. Really short. 1. Street band playing GOT them song 2. Orson Wells would be proud.
News reading from Essos, well that's the first. Kudos for creativity atleast :)
Calling king Stannis an usurper...
a broadcast from state news in KL...
usurper?
York boy plz get me a memento. I would love a son's of Harpy mask. Plz plz plz
