    I made the decision to move to Thailand back in 2017, one of the best decisions I have ever made. You are right in regards to the negativity in the west, every time I go back to the UK, it is like a dark cloud over my head. Yet as soon as the plane touches down at Suvarnabhumi, there is a feeling of joy and being somewhere that feels like home.

    Having travelled many countries, i've never felt lonely & i've not been a big bar goer. Instead of going to bars or indeed staying in feeling lonely, i've usually spent my evenings walking around where the locals are.
    Casually stopping, being friendly & chating with them, as & when. This can open up many doors that can benefit the foreigner.

    Hi there. I have only watched 3 of your videos so far, I have to say it is a real breath of fresh air. I live in Chiang Mai and I made the decision to move 6 years ago and have not looked back. Back then it was Brexit and the whole place felt torn in two (which is of course the whole design, to divide) and like you said it too just got me down and I knew there must be a 'greener grass' out there and indeed that has been the case. I have developed so much here, drink less, enjoy nature and the spiritual side of life more, and met so many like-minded people too. Wishing you all the best.

    Talking about new travelers, I ran into Frenchman who was trying to find the guesthouse he was staying on LK Metro so I walked with him to help him find it. I do recommend doing research beforehand. "Guesthouses" in Thailand are much less expensive places to stay. If you are coming from the US, I strongly recommend booking a private taxi beforehand (I paid $40 from BKK to my guesthouse in Pattaya). It's possible to visit Pattaya quite inexpensively without living the backpacker lifestyle.

    • @jjmstudios
      @jjmstudios ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unless you pay an extortionate amount of money for an elite Visa, your only real option is the education Visa and they are clamping down on that. If you’re over 50, then you can get a retirement Visa, but you will need 800,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account along with proof of regular income. You can also work for a company in Thailand but the work Visa has to be renewed every year. It’s not easy and I’ve heard some horror stories recently where people have been refused access, even though they own Property in Thailand and have children!

    • @lavista4u
      @lavista4u ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get Business VISA + Work Visa and/or Open a Company all for under 4000 GBP, which is recovered by low cost of living. After 50 its much easier, but if you are from West, its not hard to settle down and open a business in Thailand

    • @inlovewiththailand

    Southeast and East Asia is just more fun, affordable, safe, interesting with paradise settings, smiley locals, constant buzz, best food in the world and has endless activities and places to explore. You will find that you will have constant human interactions, smiles, and jokes with the locals but also other like minded Western tourists who are all over Asia - you're right it is just a much more social culture out there due to the culture, weather and laid back vibe. You don't have the social status or conservatism of the West. Also, Asians and Westerners are friends and automatically compatible. You basically don't have to worry about anything out there. The locals will take care of you.

    I think the last one is very important. Me going there would be to have a comfortable place Inget focus on my work. But I consider the risks. How did you ger guy friends out there? And is the language barrier good enough to have a meaningful conversation? Grest videos by the way. They're packed and I learn a lot from watching them. Wish you were still around because I'm seriously thinking of moving. It's a big step and I have to consider the risks. Would be nice to talk to someone about that. Do you offer consultation? Like a video chat?

    • @TravelGlitch
      @TravelGlitch  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, I'm more than happy to offer a consultation but to answer your questions: making friends is easy, plenty of friendly people around. Language barrier is never really a problem, not all thai speak good English but most of them know roughly what you'd be saying as long as its not anything too technical. Regarding work, just ensure you don't get sucked into the bar or drinking scene as its easily done!

    Expats who are lonely in Thailand are usually the ones who refuse to learn the language! It's nearly impossible to be lonely in Thailand because the Thais are the most social people in the world! Expats have to remember that they are the immigrants so it's incumbent on them to make the effort to learn the local language. Yes, Thai is hard but learning English is very hard too! It could take about two years to reach fluency but it will definitely open up a whole new world once you start conversing with the lovely Thai people. Go to a Thai language school! Also agree that it's harder to compete for women in the Western world, first because there are much more high earning men in the West than in Southeast Asia, second because women are way more materialistic in the West and have higher standards for how much a man should earn, and as you said, women are more aggressive and educated in the West and expect you to be earning more than them. Basically the competition is way more fierce amongst Western men and the standards of women are way higher, partially just because the cost of living is so high in the west and you need to be a top earner to support a family.

    Haha,,, man, you're seeing it through rose-tinted glasses tho 😛 The "better weather" in SE Asia means it's UNBEARABLY hot and humid for most of the year... and then you're having to keep regulating with the AC that's always too cold or too noisy, and don't wanna be outside since your clothes stick to you the moment you step out the door... And the rainy season... well, it means massive downpours, flooding, grey skies all day... and: No seasons. And trust me, you'll miss the seasons very soon.
    Plenty of great things about SE Asia and I'm permanently relocating myself this coming January (been here for 9 months by now) but the weather isn't really much nicer, and one downside is also the lack of walkability... the awful "pavements" or lack of it.
    Also, dating: if you only care about the girl being pretty and womanly, yeah - you'll be good in SE Asia. If you want an intelligent and educated and very interesting woman with an internal life and independent thought, Europe and the West is SOOO much more interesting. Which is why celebrity and rich men often will date Western women. It's the "loser types" that'll go to SE Asia since they cannot find a decent woman in the West.

    • @inlovewiththailand
      @inlovewiththailand ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that's not always the case. When I'm visiting my wife, we usually turn on the AC for about 15 minutes and from that moment on, we turn it off and the fan goes on. Also saves lots on electricity.

    • @Black-Circle
      @Black-Circle ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in the UK you dont even get a proper summer season. since July its been cast grey clouds and not even been warm. barely even see the sun.

    • @mayzi.b
      @mayzi.b ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After living in US over 5 years, I prefer Thailand or SE Asia better. Even the weather is hot and humid but we have air conditioner/fan that work just fine. When it is too hot, I can fly out of the country and go travel to Europe or Korea/Japan somewhere that’s not too hot for awhile and come back. Hot is not bad you can do outdoor activities. If it’s cold and snow and rain while it’s cold, I don’t want to do anything. My day feel funky all day and depress. Not good for my mental health.
      Oh and about dating a woman in SE Asia you can find a good education and intelligent, independent women too but not in the bar. You just need to date and pick the right one. A lot of working women in SE Asia and everywhere else in the world not only in the west or Europe. Some Thai women they come from the wealthy family, they have money to study abroad and even make money more than some man. Some women have their own business and making a lot of money. It’s depends on who you end up meeting or being with. Not all the loser types will married with Asian women. Some loser in the west married with the western women.

    • @marsfuture
      @marsfuture ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mayzi.b Totally appreciate your view and perspective! I'm giving up my home in Berlin this December for good to make this permanent (scary!) jump to SE Asia, so any positive and optimistic input is much appreciated, anyway ;-) Tbh, I would probably prefer to move to Lisbon or Budapest or elsewhere warm in Europe, but the value for money you get in SE Asia and the safety and the breadth of nature experiences can't be beaten. Also, Ukraine conflict bullshit or the general society breakdown / migrant chaos etc of Europe isn't an issue in SE Asia and people are optimistic and ambitious and kind. So it's still the better choice. But yes, I miss seasons, culture, architecture!
      Also, yes for the kinds of women you're talking about. Many of them might prefer a Thai man, tho. Also, money isn't everything. But you're right that they won't be found in a bar!
