Hmmm. Not so much. The music maybe. I'm getting There Will Be Blood vibes more than anything (same production designer, the great Jack Fisk). But this looks way better directed than Gangs which was a big disappointment. It was ok but not in his top tier of work....and I remember NOT liking the trailer for it! lol. This one seems more disciplined, more realistic. Gangs is a work of fiction, and this is a factual story that is going to be conveying information. To be fair, in Scorsese movies Leo always has that look on his face like he has in this trailer, lol. The Departed, Gangs Of New York.....the wounded "what's going on" look, lol. Leo looks fantastic in this movie, though, no question about it. Anyways, I sure HOPE it's better than "Gangs Of New York". When that movie came out, the vibe was "Daniel Day is great but the movie is disappointing". And like this one, it was long awaited. Unlike this one, it followed another disappointment, "Bringing Out The Dead", lol. (or maybe "Kundun", which was ok, can't remember now.)
"Actually I just watched Goodfellas again recently......not that I had to." 🤣 You speak for all of us! (I just rewatched King Of Comedy and After Hours. Man oh man, those are two of his best.)
I agreed 100% with your intro: I didn't need anything else! But if they're going to show it, how can I not look, ugh? lol. And I also agree: it's 3 1/2 hours, there's plenty to discover....and if the writing and the acting are this good, that time will fly by. I haven't heard anyone complain about the time of the movie too much, which doesn't surprise me from the guy who made "Casino" which was over 3 hours, and which I saw in the theatre. Had no problem, you couldn't have DRAGGED me out of that theatre. His movies are almost ALWAYS long. "New York, New York" was over 3 hours, and that was 1978! Love that scene with Jesse Plemons and Leo. De Niro is killing it. I think that's the best Southern accent he's ever done, and it's the same accent that Leo and Gladstone have so obviously they all did their homework. The Oklahoma accents sound a LOT better than the fake Boston accents in "The Departed", lol.
I watched up until you said the music doesn't fit lol which song would you have put lol Because for us indigenous peoples of whom this story is about find that this song is perfect in both aspects first for the trailer but also for those indigenous peoples who suffered and died in this story Electric pow wow by a tribe called red is a true favorite and beloved song for us indigenous peoples
Looks amazing and lookin' like another banger from Martin.
This looks incredible! But is anyone getting gangs of New York vibes from this?
