    Yes, the cap is vented on the reservoir.

      Not wanting to be a stick in the mud but I didn't see you put in the exit/entry hose going to the radiator I assume you treated/painted the inside of the tank the same as you did the outside. The radiator return hose is normally on the top with a tube down into the tank but stops 3/4 from the bottom so if the radiator spits out muck or small rust bits then it will settle on the bottom of the tank , then when it sucks back on the liquid it only takes good clean coolant if the hose is on the bottom then you can sort of guess what sort of problems this can cause especially if rust flakes settle and block the inlet/outlet.Overflow tanks helps with the overall general health of the whole cooling system not just as a catch can . Other than that it looks awesome and is probably bigger than originally so more coolant must be a good thing

      I was in a situation like this-- it was much steeper, but a dirt cliff-- not sand... but we didnt' have enough rope, so I ended up using 100' extension cord.. It was close enough where I could wrap the cord around three times, and then tie it off... and it pulled the truck up the cliff, and didn't even break the cord; we used it the next day. If you try to use an extension cord as a straight single pull-- it will break quite easily, but loop it 3 times or more-- and it has enough copper there to not break. Pretty cool.... I tied the ends with a bowline-- so it was easy to untie.

      @@barryking9002 I had the same question about the radiator blow-off hose. Saw holes drilled for filler and two for sight glass, but not for the blow off hose..Great fabrication job!

    • @chazfaz3595
      @chazfaz3595 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Vannadel Yep. And a person does not have to be a professional engineer with an accredited degree to engineer something. The major validation is whether the product accomplishes what it was designed to.

    • @ChuckHickl
      @ChuckHickl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Vannadel not sure who you referring to as " famous inventors", but engineering degrees we're not available, at least in the US, until the early 1800s. That means there was a lot of inventing going on without anyone actually having an engineering degree. All throughout history, the pyramids, gothic cathedrals, Stonehenge. All of these constructions required a detailed understanding of physics and how materials react under pressure. Many of the world's greatest creations were done without an engineering degree.

    Rudy, You need to do a "Background" video of how you and your Dad got into the Jeep XJs. What year is your XJ and is it the first one you owned? They are by far one of the best offroad vehicles, the size of the XJ gives it an advantage over other offroad rigs as you can get in and out of some very tight trails that full size vehicles just can't do. Keep up the great content!

    Rudy, great videi! I did a whole lot of engineering work on engine coolant flow and testing. We first tried using clear vinyl hose. Terrible idea. That clear hose will not hold the heat. Our fix was to use traditional rubber hoses with clamps and a glass tube. Glass makes it easy to see what's going on and will definitely contain the heat. Good luck with the build!

    Hey Rudy, wouldn’t you want a pressure relief cap on the new degas tank? (just thinking about some of the factory set-ups I’m familiar with) I think it keeps it from over-pressurizing if it happens to over heat, wouldn’t want to blow a hose off or split the rad.
