Hi Nathan, I'm experimenting with new setups currently. I see you're using stereo Sanken 100ks and some kind of Schoeps, it sounds great. How did you end up choosing this combination?

Thats a good question. I use the Sanken 100ks for ultra high freq and the Schopes for the human hearing part, since I pitch sounds down often in my work. Schoeps are my favorite mics because they are transparent and capture sound without adding coloration both on axis and off axis (important when pitching and designing), and has vast modularity eco system of capsules, amps, cables adapters, and many other options. It might be hard to see in the videos but I change out the "mid" ch of my DMS (Double Mid Side) from time to time (using a MK22, MK4, or MK41) I was fortunate to be chosen to be part of the Schoeps bata testing of the CMD 42 digital mic. The CMD42 has been instrumental in elevating my recordings to a whole new level. I'll be making a video or two about that in detail once it becomes avalible to the public, but you can check out the Schoeps video on that with this link th-cam.com/video/pbrn7mMQ2BE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MBrQF29Vf9P7JjBX

Thank you for the detailed reply! First time hearing about the CMD42, I'll keep an eye on that one. @@NathanSmithSound

Hi Nathan, I have a pair of stereo small condenser mics, their self noise is quite low (9.2dB), they are silent but my issue is that they need a lot of gain to be heard correctly and that introduces unwanted noise from my zoom F6 preamps (I tested the zoom F6 with/without the mics plugged in, with the same gain amount to figure out if the hiss came from the mics or the F6, turns out it was the F6).
I’m about to get a pair of Rode nt1's to record a wide range of foley recordings.
Do you think the Rode NT1 would need less gain? I searched but can’t find which spec to look at to know if a mic is ‘gain hungry’.
I thought it was only about the ‘self noise dB’ spec but it isn’t. (maybe the output impedance? Or mV/PA?) I’d really appreciate your advice.
When I look at the specs they seem to be very good for what I need, I’ll leave them here :
    Output Impedance: 100Ω
    Equivalent Noise Level (A-Weighted): 4.5dBA
    Sensitivity: 35.48 mV/Pa
    Frequency Range: 20Hz - 20kHz
    Polar Pattern: Cardioid
I also wanted to know what you think of the NT1's for foley recording (stereo pair).
Thanks you very much in advance.
