    You won't be connecting to hosts on any other networks, so you don't need a default gateway or DNS servers. The two PCs just need to be on the same network. They will send out an ARP to determine the MAC address for each other's IP address and then communicate with each other. There is also no need to change the host name if you just use the specified IP addresses.

      The name change is for convenience only and to prevent confusion. thats because the name the computer gives itself when installing Windows is a generic name

    Hi! Thank you very much - I have 2 mini computers and want to use one for file storage to keep
    the other one running fast but still be able to access the files & this seems easy enough for me to be able to do without being an expert (hopefully). I have a quick question: I only have one monitor, keyboard & mouse so I'm wondering if there's an easy way to connect the 2 computers they way you demonstrated using the same monitor, keyboard & mouse without having to unplug everything and move them back and forth each time?

    A really good informative video. Sadly for me, I have spent all afternoon trying to connect a PC to a Lap Top both with Windows 11. I know this is a hit and miss set up with Windows trying to connect two machines together (always has been). On my Desk Top (No1 PC) I can see the lap Top (No2 PC). But it does not matter what I try on No.2 PC it wont see No.1 PC. I am using a wifi connection on both the No.1 & No.2 machines.I have connected both machines Ethernet to Ethernet cable, both PC's still refuse to connect. I have given up now. Thank you again for a really great video.

      Hello @@zachall9539 I have got over this issue. I now use an "ezcoo" box (2) from Amazon. The transmitter box connects to my my Desk Top via USB. The file(s) are then sent from the biox via Cat 6 to a receiver box in my other room. In this box I have a External SSD drive plugged in. I can send a 3GB file in less than a minute. When I'm ready, I unplug the SSD from the "ezcoo receiver box and plug it into the Lap Top and copy the data over. It's very quick and does a good job every time. This ezcoo box can accomodate 4 external drives. I have had 4 drives connected and the performance is still just as good.

However, at least Windows 11 will only identify the network if you put in all those info, and only then will you be able to permanently switch the network to private

    If you're connected to a modem with built in router do all these settings need to be changed or just the names and micromush account info? I don't want to lose my Internet to share movies around the house and will I only need to set shared folders instead of public folders? I've been messing with settings for years and just can't get things to work correctly after the first connection.

    So i tried this and its works but the data transfer are so slow. about 11mbps
    any ways to fix this? (im using normal lan cable)

    • @ipMalik
      @ipMalik  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Perhaps with a crossed LAN cable you will have more speed, also the speed depends on the power of the CPU and memory drives on two PCs.
      My PC-1 and PC-2 have SSDs connected.

      it only show 100mbps on the ethernet status, it probably just cat5.
      ima gonna search for better cable tomorrow.

    Is it possible to use a Double Lan connector in case we also need internet on one PC?

    • @ipMalik
      @ipMalik  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In this method, it is possible to use either a local network using a cable or the Internet, but it is impossible to do both at the same time.

    With these ports being used to network, how do you connect both computers to the internet router?

      @@ipMalik Thanks for the reply. So, one has to be wireless, right? Then, for the best security, I'm guessing the internet should be hardwired and the network could be wireless. What do you think?
      OR, could I get a couple of USB>Ethernet adapters and "create" an extra LAN port on each computer? If so, I'd leave the LAN cables for the internet alone, and be back to networking the computers with a cable the way you show. Hmm.

    What determine the ip address used? And why use ip address?

    • @bendono
      @bendono 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Any address is fine. Usually you should choose from a private address range, but in this case it really doesn't matter because there are only two hosts.
      Ultimately, the connection will use layer 2 MAC addresses to communicate. However, networks in general also need to be routed to external networks, which is why things start with IP addresses. Once these two hosts determine that they are on the same network, they send out an ARP to determine each other's MAC address to directly communicate with each other.

      Open Settings, then open the "Accounts" tab, and look at the top in the middle which account you have, local or Microsoft.
      If you have Microsoft, then a little lower open the “Your data” tab and click “Sign in with a local account instead.”
      There will be no problems with a local account.
