This is honestly still one of the most inspirational videos I've seen, and it lives rent free in my mind. True leadership, taking initiative, showing example, including everyone, honest and uncompromising creative expression, living in the moment. This is being human in the purest form. Everything is vibrating energy and our existence is a dance.
Indeed. There is nothing more important right now than to get all bundled up together and wave our arms around in reckless jubilation. COVID-19 approves.
Randomly stumbled over this in 2024 and it made my day. The way people are *running* to join them at some point! Looks like a great time was had by all!
My professor actually showed us this video in business school! Arguing that the first guy to join him, might be the most important, as he normalizes the behavior of the dancing, therefore creating a whole “organization” around it - as more people join, this becomes the new normal, suddenly making people feel that they’re missing out if they don’t join them - so interesting
I actually am more in Awe over the Chubby 3rd guy. I Loved his energy! And actually feel he was the one people Saw and said "Hey if chubby dude can dance like that and enjoy himself, so Can i!!"
May god bless me with the courage and individuality of the first guy, the support and unquestioning reciprocation of the second guy, and the energy and baller moves of the third guy. Amen.
One dude dancing..."what a wierdo" Three dudes dancing.."haha" 10 people dancing.."I want to do it!" 30 people dancing.."I better do it so I don't look wierd sitting here!" Human psychology is fascinating
That’s a common pessimistic misconception. I reckon there was actually very few people believe he was a weirdo when he was dancing alone. In fact they probably urged to him on but didn’t want to be the first to join him. People aren’t as dark as everyone thinks.
Can we give kudos to the one who recorded this, please? All those beautiful young people dancing in the sun at a music fest. 14 or 15 years ago now (2023) - what a great moment to have in your youth.
the exact thing happened with my friend in a under 18 club. 100 people all talking and my friend amari starts break dancing and yelling at people to start dancing. Whole club was lit for 4 house after that. Easily the greatest man I ever knew. After that at another party he was the first to get on the roof and starting a concert with tupac in the background. then he jumps into the pool with everyones cell phone out. whole county saw that man do wut he does best, rule his people he is forever the king to my group of friends.
I did the same in france two years ago. There was an amazing queen cover band and it was such a pain to see how everybody was just sitting down and doing nothing but watch. At one point I couldn't hold myself back anymore, just jumped into the big empty space in front of the stage and just started dancing. More and more people joined me and when I had a little chat with the band members after the concert we even thanked each other. That was beautiful.
Everyone needs a “guy in the green shirt” in their lives. Just to be the one that backs you up when you’re passionate about something and you just want to do you 🙏🏼
Yes green shirt guy was the 2nd most important part of that. Without him no one else would have joined in and everyone would have looked at the guy like he was weird.
This just shows you how much people WANT to be themselves, but need validation first. As soon as another person joins in, it's now socially acceptable.
@Zac Ariah It's entirely true. People are, in general, much too worried about their own image to do what they want. Once it's suddenly acceptable the herds show up.
I call it 'mass-effect' the more people do it, the more likely others will join. It works in a debate. When you're the only one standing up for an idea, alone, you're likely to just leave for the other side

@@katn1952 back in 2009-2010 this video was used in countless Ted X talks as an example of how crowdsourcing, crowdfunding, flash mobs, and the wisdom of crowds could save the world- all very zietghisty ideas back then... But to answer your question, no this was not planned :)
Absolutly. He was the real starter of the JOINING of the peoples. The first guy must have had the best day of his life. Started off with no friends and no one to dance with but he said i dont give a fu**. He went home, after the extacy wore off and told his co workers that he danced alone but ended up with hundreds of people dancing the same dance he made up. His co workers would think he was exaggerating lol. Love this video!! May this be a sign of things to come. "You can dance if you want to.. you can leave your world behind, cuz if you dont dance and if you cant dance well youre- no friend of mine"
My college roommates were at Sasquatch that year, wish I went with them instead of studying and graduating. None of them graduated after they decided to go to every festival out there but one of them is now a subsistence farmer, the other is a homeless former firefighter, and the last is a very successful car salesman who could sell a glass of water to a drowning man. I on the other hand work on a computer all day, and comment on TH-cam with my currently 18 year old account. Time is funny.
The second guy who joined in then the third are equally as amazing as the first. They reinforced the first guy which got everything thinking "hell yes". This is how it's done!
Except this video started after multiple people already ran up and danced with him. This video starts at the 5 minute mark on this video: th-cam.com/video/nU7dxkIz1Vs/w-d-xo.html
I was just thinking the same thing. Like if I was the artist performing and saw this guy create a mob just by dancing I would've tried to get him up to the stage between songs after the song ended.
This fucking legend of a video is a good metaphor for life. Always be who you are through and through and never be afraid to show others your true self, those who resonate will gravitate to you and you to them. Love yourself, love others, and love life❤️
The moves, the courage to be wacky, genuine joy when the 2nd guy came in, the time for him to realize there's more people, the overwhelming feeling he must have felt when he saw tha crowd run towards them....the man, the myth, the legend. He started it, he experienced it like no one else, and left us one heck of a positive video thanks to those who recorded it. People, enjoy life whenever you can, it goes by fast!

Arguing that the first guy to join him, might be the most important, as he normalizes the behavior of the dancing, therefore creating a whole “organization” around it - as more people join, this becomes the new normal, suddenly making people feel that they’re missing out if they don’t join them - so interesting
We watched it in psychology classes I business school as well :)
Good observation! ☺️ Its a good thing to join or to start to get the stone rolling.... I will remember this 😅
I actually am more in Awe over the Chubby 3rd guy. I Loved his energy! And actually feel he was the one people Saw and said "Hey if chubby dude can dance like that and enjoy himself, so Can i!!"

the exact thing happened with my friend in a under 18 club.

That first 3 guys had the balls to display that raw stoke, the rest were dumb compensating sheep 😂
Anna Ya im a happy dancer and have often been the only one to dance :)

people normally sit on the hills and dance in front
14 years on, and this video still makes me grin from ear to ear! 😄
Everyone needs a “guy in the green shirt” in their lives. Just to be the one that backs you up when you’re passionate about something and you just want to do you 🙏🏼
Right.
Yes green shirt guy was the 2nd most important part of that. Without him no one else would have joined in and everyone would have looked at the guy like he was weird.
From a girl in a green shirt much love
Don't wait for a guy in green shirt. Be that guy.
This just shows you how much people WANT to be themselves, but need validation first. As soon as another person joins in, it's now socially acceptable.
Its rather sad isn't it ?
@Zac Ariah It's entirely true. People are, in general, much too worried about their own image to do what they want. Once it's suddenly acceptable the herds show up.
I call it 'mass-effect' the more people do it, the more likely others will join.
It works in a debate. When you're the only one standing up for an idea, alone, you're likely to just leave for the other side
