I had to do this years ago to hold a Metric Woodruff key seat cutter, I only have Imperial collets so this allowed me to get the job done. Good trick for those that may not have thought of this as a viable solution.

G'day Mate. Sorry, that's a bit of a cliche now I suppose? Thank you for your comment, I'm glad it brought back good memoires.
I travelled round Australia some years ago, I remember the Falkland's war was on, Gulp, just checked on Google it was 1982! I had joined up with another back packer, we had borrowed an old Holden estate car, it took us right round your wonderful country and up through the centre where we met our first road train. Fantastic trip, other than two tyres it only cost us petrol food and a few gallons of amber fluid! Take Care Jim

I was 28, unmarried and didn't have to wear a sunhat as I had a head full of hair!

PS I wear a hat outside and have a full head of hair, gone grey now but was ginger so I decided a hat will stop my ears and nose from burning in the noon day sun. You know the expression, mad dogs and English men go out in the noon day Sun, so it goes, lol.

    Thanks for making this tutorial.
I've currently got a job sitting in the mill that needs a 1/2" hole but the space between the work and chuck is smaller than the drill bit length, I won't neet to remove the job and clamp it to the table now as you provided a great solution.

Hello Stephen. Thank you for the comment, I'm so glad you found the video of use. A split bush is a handy thing to know how to make, I suspect this won't be your last one. Take Care Jim.

great video but i think in the long run fixing the drill chuck to fit the mill directly would be a better fix a new morse taper adapter to drill chuck would give you more versatility

Hello Tom. Thank you for your comment. Of course, your right, I have been looking for a chuck with a No 4 Morse taper, but nothing has come up yet in my price range. I'm only just starting to use the Alexander as I finish its refurbishment and learning what's what with this machine. Its smaller than my Marlow mill, and I'm still a little worried that even with a drill chuck fitted with a No 4Morse taper arbor it will still be a little long. Oh well, time will tell. Take Care Jim

In case you want to fix it, there is a typo in the title. You have hole instead of hold.

Hello Mark. Thank you for spotting the hole in my title, I have now fixed it. I always check my words several times, not sure how I missed that one. Take Care Jim
