Yes but I think there's a huge difference between the far right wing evangelical Christian conservative party and the dark money groups and powerful corporations and right wing media and politicians that make up these hateful bigoted lies and the people who are sometimes good people who happen to get caught up in it. It's complicated. But some people are just beyond help and we have to acknowledge that. We have to know who to talk to and how to talk to them. But there are many January 6th riot people and far right militia groups who truly believe the election was stolen and are dangerous and scary. Someone like MTG and Lauren bobert and Ted Cruz and Matt Gates and Matt Walsh and Jordan Peterson know what they are doing and are NEVER going to change. They make too much money. Some of their followers might..but probably not most of them. Most of the people who still support Trump even after all this are too far gone to help. That doesn't mean we should go out of our way to be mean and condescending. But there are soooo many frustrating willfully ignorant people that aren't willing to look at any other possibilities. We should definitely focus on the people who don't vote and feel left out of both parties. We need a progressive takeover of the democratic party by people who don't take corporate campaign contributions. Biden is not a very good speaker, however, he's doing a great job as President! Although I would like to have a President who could talk like Gavin Newsom or Obama, I'm more interested in results and Biden is delivering results. The Stock Market is hitting record highs (and that was Trump's barometer to a good economy), the GDP is much higher under Biden than it was under Trump. (Trump could barely meet half the GDP goals he promised he would reach in order to pay for those tax cuts he gave the rich). Unemployment is at its lowest level ever under Biden. Biden has helped those with student loan debt despite the GOP fighting him tooth and nail. Biden has done more than any President in a long time to fix our roads, make us energy independent, bring semiconductor and other manufacturing jobs back to the US. Most of all, Biden is fighting for Democracy. But somehow the idiots in this country want to hold inflation against him although the whole world is suffering from inflation and the USA is dealing with it better than anybody. He falls off his bike, and stumbles from time to time and idiots want to make him seem senile. Trump is the one that is senile. He thinks Nicky Haley is Nancy Pelosi, he constantly thinks he is running against Obama instead of Biden, and he constantly talks a bunch of geriatric mumbo-jumbo about the Democrats leading us into WWII. (Trump doesn't even realize that WW2 occurred some 80 years ago.) I'll be honest. If you look at the metrics on many different things ... like violent crime, gun crime, health care.... it's all mid tier to top level in Cali. The only real serious issue is the homelessness issue. The homeless go to all coasts... Its the same way in Canada. They flock to the coast because it's warmer and they can better survive the winters. At some point ALL of society is going to have to deal with the homeless issue. You can't just kick them out of your state - they are going to end up somewhere. We have gender-neutral bathrooms here in Canada, and there are NEVER any incidents. Don't let the boogieman scare you. I've witnessed females go straight into the men's bathroom because the line is too long on the women's side. All they do is just go into the stall and lock the door, with no issues.
On the gender neutral toy section law, If any industry comes to a government official asking for regulation they should be very suspicious of what is going on. If they were already moving in this direction as they claimed then why do they need the regulation? Is it possible they have some other motive here?
Republicans are on this big kick about "woke corporations" which is hilarious. It's been corporations vs citizens and mom and pop stores since day one. The idea what there are left leaning corporations genuinely ignorant. When a corporation makes a decision like this, they're following market research and focus group data. It's how the come up with a slogan, it's how they decide to cast in commercials, and it's how they decide to run their business operations. A toy or department store lobby isn't pushing some agenda; they're looking at data that suggests ungendered toys are popular, and money can be made by reacting to the trend. If they pressed for it to be law, it's likely that their internal research suggests smaller companies that still meet the threshold of the law (employiing 500+ people) could be penalized to their own advantage. Coke didn't make a diet soda because they care about your health. They made it because they saw that diet drinks were popular; they weren't forcing dieting on anyone.

So here's my takeaway. When the presidents makes an order, a governor can defy it, so the Fed has to sue the state. When a governor makes an order, the mayor/city council can defy it, so the state has to sue the city. And that is his reason he can't just fix the problem quickly?
What he did concerning the toys at department store is crazy. When asked he said they stores came to him, then switched it to say it didn’t come from his office, and then said it had the department store support. Kind of magical how he danced around it. He made it a LAW! Department store could have made those sections all on their own without a law. But now that it’s a law stores “have no choice” they get to increase their DEI rating while not taking the blame because it’s the law.

I've lived in CA for 50 years, and this is the worst I've seen it. I travel for work and go to other cities in CA, like SF and Oakland, and complete disasters. Not to mention the border issue is a complete joke, and crime keeps rising where businesses are leaving the cities. Look at Nordstroms in SF, Chick Fil A in Oakland. All you have to do is look at all the crime and store robberies in CA. Hell, people just go in and steal, because they know if it's less than $950 cops won't do anything, and if they do, they just get out anyway. The laws and the way this guy has run this state is a complete travesty. Look at the all the people that left CA in 2023, 75,423. State gas prices is the highest behind Hawaii, who obviously is going to be higher, being an island. CA gas for just regular is $4.49 a gallon. The cost of living in CA is 3rd in the entire US behind, again, Hawaii, and Alaska. State Annual cost of living expenditures is $101,935. Also, I love all these people that speak on this guy but do not live here to experience this crap show. He is a good salesman at best, who has the backing of family members like Nancy Pelosi........ We should ban almond production in California. But don't use almond as an excuse to destroy the delta. The delta tunnels will kill the most productive farmland in the world. This land grows 25% of the USA's vegetables. Food production is more important than green lawns in LA
Wrong, we should ban factory farming but no one has the balls to talk about the water usage there. Only 2-4% of all agricultural land in the US is used for fruits and vegetables. Most crops are grown to feed factory farmed livestock and farmed fish which causes the majority of environmental calamity on the planet, not oil as we are told.

Another fair question would be why are you draining our reservoirs to protect non-native fish, and then posing in the middle of said drained reservoir for an article about the drought. Anyone from the area knows that if you travel a couple more miles you get to Blue Lakes that were totally full.🙄

these ppl dont understand the technology nor do they understand science as a whole or how govt works. If a small overview (idk about water storage but I do know the broad strokes of desalination): You need someone to apply for the grant for the project. The bid needs to be approved and then the resources are allocated and the project commences. At each level the govt checks and validates that you are following regulation and are not impacting the environment or other projects negatively. (that's just govt function) On the solutions side: you design it, you do ecological analysis of greatest impact, business, operations and safety plans. You work with other parts of govt on getting permits, you work with local businesses and communities (local, state and federal) to make sure you are compliant and not impacting their projects or regulations. It's a whole thing. Not to mention lobbyists at every turn, whether that's big water, big recycling, oil lobbyists, ecological conservationists they are all have a stake in any desalination, not to mention energy lobbyists. Like I mean these ppl really have no idea what goes into working with govt or even just trying to do business in general. TLDR: don't pay them any mind, normal Bill Maher listeners are too smug in the first place, they think they know it all. @@paulwblair

On the gender neutral toy section law, If any industry comes to a government official asking for regulation they should be very suspicious of what is going on. If they were already moving in this direction as they claimed then why do they need the regulation? Is it possible they have some other motive here?
Republicans are on this big kick about "woke corporations" which is hilarious. It's been corporations vs citizens and mom and pop stores since day one. The idea what there are left leaning corporations genuinely ignorant. When a corporation makes a decision like this, they're following market research and focus group data. It's how the come up with a slogan, it's how they decide to cast in commercials, and it's how they decide to run their business operations. A toy or department store lobby isn't pushing some agenda; they're looking at data that suggests ungendered toys are popular, and money can be made by reacting to the trend. If they pressed for it to be law, it's likely that their internal research suggests smaller companies that still meet the threshold of the law (employiing 500+ people) could be penalized to their own advantage. Coke didn't make a diet soda because they care about your health. They made it because they saw that diet drinks were popular; they weren't forcing dieting on anyone.
I'm guessing there's a market for it but they don't want to get targeted for a boycott.

When asked he said they stores came to him, then switched it to say it didn’t come from his office, and then said it had the department store support. Kind of magical how he danced around it.
He made it a LAW! Department store could have made those sections all on their own without a law. But now that it’s a law stores “have no choice” they get to increase their DEI rating while not taking the blame because it’s the law.

I've lived in CA for 50 years, and this is the worst I've seen it. I travel for work and go to other cities in CA, like SF and Oakland, and complete disasters. Not to mention the border issue is a complete joke, and crime keeps rising where businesses are leaving the cities. Look at Nordstroms in SF, Chick Fil A in Oakland. All you have to do is look at all the crime and store robberies in CA. Hell, people just go in and steal, because they know if it's less than $950 cops won't do anything, and if they do, they just get out anyway. The laws and the way this guy has run this state is a complete travesty. Look at the all the people that left CA in 2023, 75,423. State gas prices is the highest behind Hawaii, who obviously is going to be higher, being an island. CA gas for just regular is $4.49 a gallon. The cost of living in CA is 3rd in the entire US behind, again, Hawaii, and Alaska. State Annual cost of living expenditures is $101,935. Also, I love all these people that speak on this guy but do not live here to experience this crap show. He is a good salesman at best, who has the backing of family members like Nancy Pelosi........ We should ban almond production in California. But don't use almond as an excuse to destroy the delta. The delta tunnels will kill the most productive farmland in the world. This land grows 25% of the USA's vegetables. Food production is more important than green lawns in LA
Wrong, we should ban factory farming but no one has the balls to talk about the water usage there. Only 2-4% of all agricultural land in the US is used for fruits and vegetables. Most crops are grown to feed factory farmed livestock and farmed fish which causes the majority of environmental calamity on the planet, not oil as we are told.

These are the years that you store up the water so you have it during the droughts. Another fair question would be why are you draining our reservoirs to protect non-native fish, and then posing in the middle of said drained reservoir for an article about the drought. Anyone from the area knows that if you travel a couple more miles you get to Blue Lakes that were totally full.🙄

these ppl dont understand the technology nor do they understand science as a whole or how govt works. If a small overview (idk about water storage but I do know the broad strokes of desalination):
You need someone to apply for the grant for the project. The bid needs to be approved and then the resources are allocated and the project commences. At each level the govt checks and validates that you are following regulation and are not impacting the environment or other projects negatively. (that's just govt function)
On the solutions side: you design it, you do ecological analysis of greatest impact, business, operations and safety plans. You work with other parts of govt on getting permits, you work with local businesses and communities (local, state and federal) to make sure you are compliant and not impacting their projects or regulations. It's a whole thing.
Not to mention lobbyists at every turn, whether that's big water, big recycling, oil lobbyists, ecological conservationists they are all have a stake in any desalination, not to mention energy lobbyists. Like I mean these ppl really have no idea what goes into working with govt or even just trying to do business in general.
TLDR: don't pay them any mind, normal Bill Maher listeners are too smug in the first place, they think they know it all. @@paulwblair

California is as large physically, economically and in terms of population than a lot of major countries around the world. I think that gets lost a lot in the conversation. If California was a country, it'd be the 5th largest economy in the world. People put a camera in a homeless dude's face and think that's all they need to say about California. It's because of California's economic success that homelessness seems so jarring meanwhile red states are much poorer, but we take it for granted that people there are miserable and poor and have terrible schools and hospitals and crumbling infrastructure, so it's never a news story. There's a lot of perspective missing here from right-wing media. They'd still rather live in New York or Los Angeles rather than in Mississippi or Kentucky, but they won't admit that to their viewers.

The answer is simple. It’s impossible.
