The actor who plays the vicar is incredibly skilled
the vicar is so patient with everyone and tries to see the good in them all - I love his expressions especially his smug smile lol!

In scenes he's the straight man. But when he does his pieces to camera his acting is poor. It feels like watching one of those daytime adverts

It's close to The Office but not quite. Kerry Mucklowe is the best character in a comedy since David Brent. Facial expressions are spot on. Supporting cast is awesome, hard to choose between Big Mandy and Finchy though.

It's hard to put this show into words. It makes me laugh and chuckle every time and every time I notice, and laugh at something I'd missed the other 500 times I watched it! Some say it's trying to be like The Office, but I don't agree. I LOVE The Office, it also makes me crack up everytime I watch it, but it's more in your face, well done, but in your face kind of humour. This Country is richer and more refined. It's just so well done. It's genius!

I. LOVE this show. Easily my favourite BBC comedy since The Office.
I agree, it's really good but they definitely ripped off The Office. They even used the exact story told by Ricky Gervais on his XFM radio show about his mate who was a junior doctor and had a patient that had a bottle wedged up his arse with a condom attached. That was just pure stealing. That said, even Peter Kay's Car Share stole jokes, like when Kayleigh said she shit on her doorstep when she couldn't get her key in quick enough; that was stolen from The Royle Family.
I don't know, I get that people steal jokes from past shows but sometimes it's too blatant, and when you have _many_ other elements taken from a show too, it gets to the point where you're just taking the piss. I do like this show though. I'm pretty sure people say The Office ripped off Spinal Tap, a show that Ricky Gervais was a big fan of. It's hard to come up with completely original stuff, and it's probably OK to take inspiration but maybe This Country has "modelled itself" a little _too_ much on The Office?

Yeah, if you like your comedy dumbed down, lowest common denominator jokes, unrealistic scenarios and characters with strange and unnatural character archs combined with a complete lack of subtlety then yeah go for it.

The overall humour is ironic, awkwardness and cringe. Those things will always be funny. I don't think you're completely sure what you're talking about.
JSkillz when I first saw it, I thought they had been heavily influenced by the office. However rather than having 1 character E.g david Brent, Gareth etc.. I felt they had "mixed" the characters together. For example some times Kerry will act like Brent, then other times she'll act like Dawn. Like wise Kurtan would sometimes act like Gareth, but then he'd act like Finchy. However after watching it again I'm not so sure... they do subtle things in this country, which I think help to make the show great. Which separates it from the office. Also after a while I think comedy will become like Films. Eventually you can't come up with a new idea unless your infringing on a previous idea. Like nobody will now be able to make a comedy about an office again

So agree - I’m a UK expat in US - it makes me homesick - the UK subtleties in humour based on the UK village experience makes it so difficult to share with anyone in the US - but it’s so well written and the comic acting is genius!

It’s such a shame they didn’t make any more episodes. I completely understand why they didn’t due to respect of the sad loss of their colleague. But still it’s such a shame. One of the best comedies I have seen for years and probably will never do so again.

I'm a bit older than the Goosebumps books but my nephew had the video of the one where the brother and sister visited the Tower of London. I loved it!
