    Excellent work guys. I love the Hammer Dracula movies. Looking forward to the Van Helsing Trilogy 😉

      We're glad that you enjoyed the discussion! Part 3, or the Van Helsing Trilogy, has been filmed and we're very excited about it 😂
      We're also planning to do all Hammer werewolf movies this year, but they only made one of those so it'll be a shorter video series 😂

    I'm really glad you've done these Hammer Dracula videos, I've really enjoyed them.
    I haven't seen any of them since any of the Hammer Dracula films since I was a kid, when they were a late night staple on BBC. I used to love them and will definitely look out for a boxset to rewatch them.
    I'll look forward to the next part 😎 I would really love to see you go through the rest of the Hammer Catalogue.
    I have to agree with Sam Quatermass and the Pit is by far the best film they ever produced and one I still watch to this day if I see it on. I always liked The Ghoul as well.

      We're chuffed that you're enjoying this series of videos! We didn't know if anyone would be interest in these films, we mainly made them for fun 😂
      We've already filmed Part 3 and we're extremely excited for that one to come out, and if all goes to plan we'll be doing Hammer films quite regularly! David did catch the end of Quatermass and the Pit a little while ago when it was on TV and was blown away with how good it looks, the production design and effects look great for the time! Is it worth him watching all three Quatermass films (and the TV show) or should he just jump straight into the pit?

      @@ycft oh absolutely I'm enjoying these and I can really tell you both are too. 😁
      A regular dip into the vast Hammer collection would be really kool, it really is a eclectic catalogue covering nearly every aspect of the Horror genre.
      Tough question regards Quatermass , they are all really good and worth watching. Q and the pit is easily the pinnacle of the series and works very well as a standalone , so I would probably start there and see what David thinks as to whether you want to see the rest?.
      I'm quite a fan of Quatermass 4 that was a fantastic mini series with great social commentary and more along the lines of the creepy folklore series of the 70s like Children of the Stones

      @@krs4976 Starting with Quatermass and the Pit feels right the best way to go, especially because we already have it on DVD 😂 It seems strange that there's never been a modern day remake of any of these films, there's clearly a fanbase out there that would run to the theaters to see a new Quatermass

    • @krs4976

      @@ycft with a dvd copy I think Quatermass and the pit deserves to be your next hammer video after you finish the Dracula series😁
      I am also shocked the series hasn't been picked up for the remake treatment they would work very well in today's world , I guess there may be rights issues. I find it strange the entire Hammer catalogue has been completely untouched with no remakes or reimaginings that I know of.
      Any idea what happened to the rebirth of Hammer studios they did really well with The Woman in Black and that was about it from them 🤷

      @@krs4976 Hammer's various 'comebacks' pain us everyday 😂 The Woman in Black should have been a stepping stone to bigger and better things, they'd announced a bunch of the new films, including a new Abdominal Snowman! But they just, stopped. From the research we've done, they did sell off a lot of their catalog to stay afloat, that might muddy the legal waters a bit.
      There is still hope, they recently got bought by a British theater mogul, they'd made the new Doctor Jekyll, and for some reason hadn't released it nearly two years later, so he came in, gave it the big London premier treatment and promised us more to come.

    I watched a making of Count Dracula, the Jess Franco directed movie with Christopher Lee as Dracula and in it they claim Dracula has that moustache as described in the book. Another thing they did in this film was having Dracula age in reverse. They tried to add more such details from the book than had been done up to that point in earlier Dracula movies. The movie in itself is rather poor though but has really good atmosphere in certain scenes.

    • @ycft
      @ycft  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Fedorevsky The aging in reverse bit sounds interesting! Even if the film ended up being a bit poor, we always like to see it when they try and do something a little bit different, especially with a character that's been adapted as much as Dracula

    Taste the Blood of Dracula I believe was never broadcast in America which is weird considering that I remember seeing the more violent Scars broadcast in 1975. My favorite of Lee's films is Risen because of its spectacular crucifixion death scene. I find the shoddy Scars to be too gory and sleazy for a Hammer Film. It's more like a 70s Spanish horror sexploitation film. I love your critique for Taste and I agree Ralph Bates would have been a better villain than the shoehorned Lee. Great portrayal of the underworld of Victorian England and should be remade!

    • @ycft
      @ycft  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Taste the Blood not being broadcast seems so strange if Scars was! We're assuming Scars must have been heavily edited for TV. We definitely think we're in the minority about Scars, we really like it but all the interviews and documentaries we watched don't look back on it favourably.
      We're glad you enjoyed the discussion! We've already recorded Part 3 and we noticed the later films borrowed a lot from Taste the Blood. It's screaming for a remake!

    • @guillermo9631
      @guillermo9631 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ycft Taste the Blood might not have been broadcast because of the Satanic theme. I'm a little harsher on Scars because I judge the film within context of Hammer's more brilliant predecessors. I just find it to be really tasteless and the gore is done very amateurishly and seems only there for shock value. In some ways I would say this is the "jump the shark" moment in Hammer history and would lead to a sharp decline in quality for the studio. Maybe I'm just getting too sentimental and nostalgic for the "good old days".

    • @ycft
      @ycft  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@guillermo9631 That makes sense, I wonder if Satanic Rites of Dracula had more luck with broadcasters 😂 For us, Scars came as a fun change of pace when we watched these three back to back. It's interesting how Scars got away with its violence whereas The Curse of the Werewolf from 1961 got absolutely butchered by the BBFC (that's one we cannot wait to do a video on).
      Scars was undoubtedly a part of Hammer's downfall, especially from a business perspective. We also get nostalgia for this era of Hammer films, we've been teased so often with the studios potential return, when realistically 2012 was the last proper chance they had to start releasing new films.

      @@ycft I don't know if Satanic Rites was broadcast on American tv but according to Wiki the movie wasn't released in the USA until 1979 under the new title Count Dracula and His Vampire Bride. Again, I've never seen any version on broadcast tv though I heard of the movie through the magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland. By the way have you guys watched The Karnstein Trilogy (The Vampire Lovers, Lust for a Vampire, and Twins of Evil)? I'd also include Captain Kronos-Vampire Killer with those films.

      @@guillermo9631 Satanic Rites is a much better name, and the one they went with for the USA release is simply inaccurate 😂It's about as inaccurate a title as The Brides of Dracula was....
      David definitely hasn't seen those, he'll have to check with Sam to see if she has (we'll get back to you about that), but we'll definitely add them to our list!
