I've recently bought one and the community is all about modding. I've looked into some bits and bobs and it very quickly becomes a money pit. I bought it because it does everything I want stock. 200hp is more than enough for the road, slip differential is great and it handles lovely. Interior has everything I want and felt quite nice to be back in a Ford, I had a Focus ST MK3, the fiesta is arguably faster obviously just smaller in the back.
I own the Mk8.5. We needed a smaller car and Ford made me an offer I couldn't refuse - 😂- trading in my Mazda 6. I had to wait 18 months! I'm very happy so far though. It, in some ways, reminds me of my beloved CTR EP3. Certainly less spartan and more "modern" but the fun to be had is the same. IMHO. 🙂 It's also my sixth Ford, we actually own a Focus Mk2 SW as well, so I guess I might be consider kinda of a Ford fan. Don't tell that to Honda, they get jealous. 🤣 Jokes aside, I discovered your channel because of the various Alfa Romeo videos and I'm loving it so far! Cheers form Italy!
Thanks for that Jay. I think the conclusion from this is that it's a big interior improvement, and that's important to me, infotainment especially (I know what you mean having experienced the awful system in the Mk7). Otherwise it's business as usual, which is to say excellent in almost every respect, just a different way of going about things particularly with the engine. Well it's the engine that's grabbing me! Unfortunately being out of work currently, this is going to have to sit on the side lines for a bit, but I'll definitely subscribe to Jonny's channel and keep my eyes open. The security of the car worries me a lot but perhaps there are ways of sorting that out. 3rd party security systems were all the rage back in the day, I had many, so perhaps there's going to be some kind of revival!
My Leon ST FR is 190bhp, and at first I was looking into giving it a boost, but after using it I realised I use it in normal mode 90% and when I do hit the country lanes, near me, I don't find I really need anymore. It's intl the lanes wjer I like to push my cars, and only at night when it's safe, and my car suits its output I think. Though I can have just ad much fun my my girls 2005 60hp ka. It may not be as quick, but it scares you more. I suppose its all about the application. Also I only get 30-32mpg now!
JayEmm on Cars That’s where my love of cars started, and some of my favourites are from those tapes. F355, Cerbera, Escort Cosworth, V8 Vantage Twin Supercharged, 993, 550, I could go on! Think I need to move on from my pants ST170 and get a Z3 2.8, a sort of mini M Roadster that Neddell drove in his tape on car control. Getting abit too nostalgic now haha
My cousin had a ST 150 with Dreamscience remap,Magnex exhaust, cosworth cams and sorted suspension. It didn’t float my boat and it was no where near as quick as it should have been.
Ford made the new fiesta st 3banger turbo the 2019 model to be the last one to be sold on the American market but its the 5 door version instead of your 3door in england
They’re a lovely little car. Hoping to get a test drive in one soon, they’re on my longer than it should be shortlist. Been following JBCTR’s TH-cam series on the car since he got it, really impressed. Have you any plans to test the i30 N from Hyundai? It’s another I’m looking at. Would be interested to know your thoughts.
Tbh it's not really that expensive. And that comes with most of the kit from st line. You can get faster cars for cheaper but this is so usable every day.
The car I’m looking at ford fiesta st-2 2018. has engine performance level high launch control does that mean it has the performance pack and the quaife diff?. Unsure about the amber ST light that came up next to the 1k rev as of yet thanks people
You loved the Sync 3 in this ... but in my experience, it's pure garbage. It's insanely slow and laggy and I've already had the APIM module replaced under warranty after the whole thing went bang after only 5 months and now the USB doesn't work! It's made me realise that the old 'head unit' type stereos weren't all that bad.
First of all great video as always. Regarding the car, I think it would be great, but I'm so wary about buying another Ford after my ownership experience of my 99 V6 Cougar. That car was meant to be simple and reliable, basically just a Mondeo underneath (etc etc). But every single thing that could possible break or fail on a car did so after around 90k miles, and I spent so much money keeping it going. The work I had to carry out included: CV joints, steering rack, water pump and housing (twice), head gasket, egr valve (twice), power steering cooling pipe, gear linkage cables, alternator, springs and dampers, top mounts, other bushes, fuel pump. Honestly the list goes on and on. Anyway around 4 years ago I got an 04 Jag XK8 and it has been so reliable in comparison (currently 90k miles) that I've really been put off the idea of cars which are cheap to buy initially. I also own a BMW e46 330ci and that's super reliable with 115k currently on the clock. I know that BMW and Jag parts are a bit more expensive, but I just trust that they will keep working for much longer. I owned a 56 plate (mk2) 1.8 Focus and that felt like a bit of a pile once it hit 110k miles too. So I don't know really, if I didn't have to worry about the very long term of ownership and I was just thrashing this Fiesta around within it's first 6 years of life, I would love it. But would I want to spend my own money on it and keep it, that's another story. And I know that people will say, oh well you just thrash it around for 6 years and then sell it, but I've learned so many times with cars that you get nothing back when you sell them. Like nothing at all. I had to practically give my Cougar away at £1000 and it was perfect, the Focus also went for around £1000. So whatever you choose to spend your money on, you'd better keep it until it literally needs to go to scrap yard. And if it needs to go to the scrapyard at barely over 100k miles, that's not exactly great value for a £15k car.
I’m not interested in the mk3 focus R.S either which is weird since I really love the mk1 and mk2 focus models to bits. I’m even a big st fan and performance ford fan in general going back to the ford Mexico
I love the fiesta St, prefer the old one tbh. I like my interiors erc.. But I wouldn't be buying an ST for that. Now if I was after nice small car like my auntie, a new mk8 titanium model yes over the 7 she has, all day long, as its is a big step up. But for fun, I'd save a few quid and get a mk7
I loved this video James. I love your presentation style. Like yourself I’m not really a great Ford fan. But what I really didn’t like and it wasn’t your fault James was that hideous popping and crackling on the overrun. Every time I hear it in a vehicle I am so reminded of having asthma and pneumonia as a child which I had frequently. And the noise coming from my lungs was just like that sound coming from the rear of that car. . Please let this fad die a quick death
Ford should have thrown some proper power at this car. Can barely call it a fast ford. Same power as the mk7. Newbies or upgraders are simply paying for a better interior. Yaris GR is going to embarrass this car very soon.
surely the centre screen puts the driver off what he is doing instead of keeping an eye on the road 100% of the time ? (to many idiots on the road today)
Polo GTI only wins of the game is making a small hot hatch no fun with zero driver involvement but VW ruthless efficiency, although this time round with added disappointing plastics. The Polo GTI is not a bad car, and is a rapid and effective weapon but comes nowhere near to fulfilling the brief of what most people want from a hot hatch. But if you are not one of those people and that's all you want, then go for it. I would also prefer to put my money on the VW dealer network rather than the Ford if anything went wrong. But in this market where fun and involvement are the whole point, it says more about the driver than the car if you prefer the Polo GTI to just about anyone else's offering in this particular warmishly hot corner of the supermini marketplace.
the three pot 1.5 is actually the strongest engine there is for the fiesta and excluding tuned examples of the mk7 its the most powrrful fiesta ever. by quite a bit
The three cylinder is much nicer to drive in stock form than the old four banger. Initial tuning impressions indicate that it may well be more powerful when tuned too. I’m excited. 😎
@@JBCTR It has a lot more character over the 1.6, I think it suits the car alot more, if you take it as a package it is the perfect hot hatch by a good margin 😎

Kid Crack Agreed. I have dreams of hearing a five cylinder one day again as well.
Sounds better but I still love the roar of my 1.6... no cracks and bangs tho . I can add that If I want though..
Turbo 4 pots sound crap.3, 5, and 6 cylinders all sound so much better than a 4, although na 4 pots can sound pretty awesome.
No 1.6 fiesta st I've ever heard roars. 6 cylinders roar. 4 cyl turbo's just make a blurping sound.
@@posniknelb6114 then again there is the 595 abarth. That thing just sounds absolutely amazing! The best sounding 4 pot imo.
Why does it look like a C-max at the back?
I was following one the other day and I though it was a Bmax till I paid attention.
Not as sharp or raw as the mk7.5 ! bmax rear lights too!! not taken by it ,prefer mine to be fair ,ST2 With Revo :-)
