Hey dude it’s Sully! Just want to say thanks again for picking my build, its mind blowing to see it in your city! So chuffed man. Guys seriously you should take part in the next one, it was super good fun and there are some amazingly talented people who entered! Get involved! Watching your vids from now on I’ll remember my build is in there so the series is extra special to watch now! Ohh and how did that hedge get in the chimney of that house whooops! 😅 think that must have happened through MoveIt 😂😂😂 Keep up the great work TDT, MM is by far my fave cities skylines series and don’t want it to end till it’s fully detailed (although sure you’ll hit the prop count before then) Thanks, Sully 🙌🙌🙌
I've been binging through the Marble Mountain series and I am so glad to see you finally addressing functionality. I hope that you continue to make things functional and beautiful.
With that area for the build competition, you should really take the parking along the road and flip it around. People wouldn't be parking off the side of the highway. You should take it and flip it around to where the parking is butted up against the highway railing, so they would be pulling off that frontage road to park, rather than pulling literally straight off the highway into parking spaces. If that were real, hundreds of people would be killed every year trying to pull in and out of those parking spaces while drivers fly past at highway speeds.
Haha yeah had that thought, and at those speeds as well. But know two dollars likes creating ‘unique environments’ for cities skylines so it may work.. the map needs to reflect a much larger space and in real life I’m sure people do this out in the desert miles away from towns etc right (I’m from UK so only seen photos and films/tv as reference. At least that was the idea behind it, although in this situation yeah people may die reversing out on to that highway 😂 especially considering there’s a liquor store there 😉
16:08 I get that with all my crematoriums and garbage disposal units whenever there's a disconnected building anywhere on the map. On some of my larger maps it took me ages to figure out where that was. And I was getting this even on the other side of the map to where the disconnected roads were.
The reason why houses are around the truck stop is because it is a truck stop style town. Search up Breezewood, Pennsylvania. 1,000-1,400 Residents 3-4 highway interchange. Many restaurants & Gas Stations.
I'm really glad we had this episode, I hope Montana will grow in population and it would be nice if it even made a profit. I know that it's not the main point of this series but I think it's nice to see that your city/region, which you have put countless hours in, is successful. I really do love this series.;)
As someone who's seen rural Arizona, I can confirm that the houses in the desert often have a lot of random trash around them: washing machines, antique cars, scrap metal etc. Why? Where from? How did it get there? We will never know.
make sure there are smallish warehouses near commercial areas and store commercial goods in them. Any factories that need a certain product (wood, paper, metal etc) should be placed near those factories. Trucks will deliver the goods from industry to them, and they will be nearby where they are needed.
When you do get around to building Reno, be sure to capture the scumminess of it all. Reno is a place you expect to be nicer than it is, and nowhere is that more evident than in the city's downtown.
You should put the Reno build on the other side of the mountain lake(Tahoe), Reno sits at the foot hills between pine forest and desert. Search Reno mountain for images. Reno doesn't have a track, but Vegas does.
Also, to easily fix the road connection issue: Turn road anarchy on, deactivate collision in (same menu as road anarchy). Then in moveit, copy and paste the buildings to easily replop.
Cities Skylines vehicle AI is like "of course I will fly through buildings and across rivers just to park in some parking spot...but actually drive some metres over pavement to reach a citizen in need of help? Uhm no?!"
This is not going to solve the problems directly, but it might make that process a little easier: Have you tried Move It's re-build feature? When you select a building, the menu where you align heights etc gets a new button all the way at the top; the circle drawn with two arrows. I don't know if this will actually work, but once you have your "repair roads" placed in a problem area, you could try selecting the buildings and just clicking re-build. That might save you from having to relocate the buildings one by one.
You're my favorite Cities Skylines TH-camr by far, and I've watched and rewatched the Marble Mountain series a thousand times, because it has helped me learn a lot about how to make my cities aesthetically pleasing. This series is my absolute favorite of all time! However, with all due respect, you suck at actually playing the game (no offense), and it drives me bonkers to see how easily some of your problems can be fixed. Here are some tips: 1. This thing you're doing now on Imperator's suggestion is awesome, and is the first step towards making your city functional. You don't need to drag a road to all of them though - you have some space for maneuvering when it comes to how far you can drag a building from the road, but it has to always face the road or be placed sideways from the road, and in most cases, it will work. You just have to have some patience and experiment with the distance when you first place them to see what works and what doesn't. Also, that big parking lot road is notorious for making buildings placed on it not work, so be mindful of that one. :) 2. BUT, you're still missing out on a lot, and I mean A LOT of tax revenue because if your plop the growables settings have remained the same from your last uploaded save, your buildings are not allowed to level up. To avoid this, (as I mentioned in a previous comment I left on some of your videos) I play with allow buildings to level up, and that is Make Historical ON + Disable Level Up OFF. In my experience buildings with this setting can disappear, but if I use Disable Zone Check - they don't. Although these two mods are marked as incompatible, they actually work together with these settings pretty well. If you play with these two mods a bit, especially now that all your buildings will be connected to a road - I promise you instant earnings, and instant population growth, as that setting alone has stunted your city's growth to a huge degree. This will also increase your land value a lot, which will cause even more buildings to level up. 3. Policies: Enable Industry 4.0 as a citywide policy (if you haven't already) so that your industry starts taking on your educated cims. This can be a huge money earner if your education level is high. Try enabling Small business enthusiast, Big business benefactor, and Industrial Space citywide to see if any of those can turn you a profit. (enable citywide policies by using the city policy button that you can find on the "i" that's on the left of your map name, as I noticed you change policies by district in this video for some reason) These policies are designed to increase commercial sales, and the manufacture of goods (the second is helpful if you see that you're importing more than you're exporting, which means your wasting a lot of money on imports. When you export more than you import, that's a money earner). 4. Parks (if you set up their entrances properly) can be HUGE money earners. Every park I have earns me tons with a city the size of yours, but the key is to put them all in between locations that draw crowds (between commercial and residential, between one part of town and the university, next to schools, connecting big transport stations with other parts of town, especially if the park gives cims a shortcut). Also, try enabling "Prefer parks" as a city-wide policy to see what that would do to park visitors, it will probably increase them. 5. Always look at your demand. Right now, if you built more residential (since your residential demand is through the roof), that would mean that you'll fill more job positions, and these new employments will give your city a revenue boost (since probably a lot of your industry and commercial could use more workers, even if it doesn't say so explicitly) Loving how Marble Mountain looks, so keep up the great work! None other CS series comes even close for me, and that's probably because you're using the right amount of mods and assets, which makes your techniques easy to learn from and relatable. If only you could also nail the city planning/city management aspect this would be perfect. However, I do know that your playstyle doesn't really focus on that and that the city planning is not as fun to you, so, this is just wishful thinking. I'll continue to watch your series as long as I play CS!
You could get plain pavement/asphalt roads, or pedestrian streets by Urbanist. You can that drag those closer to the buildings that are not connected to the road. Then you don’t need to use the dirt road all the time, and in my opinion those tiny streets look more realistic. Plus, you can basically „draw over“/remove the pavement roads with the surface painter mod, so you won’t see them at all.
The roundabout at 6:30 shouldn’t be a highway road. Pedestrians can’t walk on the side of highway roads and the cars go unnecessarily fast through the roundabout since the speed limit is higher. Love the content
Yo Two Dollars! There are mods that deletes the problems thats happening on those buildings! If you can add them the city will be more amazingly clean!
@@sulliez1594 haha that's true! Congrats on winning again my guy! Your build really fits in there perfectly. Let's hope $2.20 gets some motorcycle assets to put in there as well
Yeah man I really wanted to include just 1 prop - Harley Davidsons but was against the rules 😂 so after won asked if he minded including them as they’ll look so good around the commercial area! Yeah hope these build comps become a regular thing and get bigger and more entries etc, was equally enjoyable looking at everyone else’s builds and how everyone came up with stories etc
If you do another build competition this summer, I'll probably have time to participate! The last one was happening when I was still trying to finish up work from the school year.
I put a lot of time into Industries in my last city. After a lot of frustration achieving any profit, and spending a lot of time on Steam forums, I finally became successful with a solid income stream from specialized industry, commercial zones, and universities. There are some complex interactions between the assets provided with each industry, and they must ALL be utilized in order to develop a stable , profitable industry. Proper use of warehouses is critical The Wiki describes the importance of the supply chain, but there are no details in how to set it up for effective interaction between the various assets. It is far too complex to describe in one post, but I would be interested in a dialog, and will try to pass on what I have learned. My last city had a population of 250k, two universities each providing 65k, oil providing 135k, ore 80k, farming and forestry about 45k, warehouses 100k, commercial was at 120k, residential provided 180k, happiness quotient at 87%, traffic at 82%, and the treasury at 55M. My new city is 30k pop, 33k income 5M treasury, no specialized industry as yet. I'm new to C.S. and city building (only 3 cities so far), but I've figured out some of how a few things work. I don't know how to open communication, so let me know in a reply if you would like to discuss what I've learned. I like the work you do, I am just getting into the intricate detailing you and other youtubers excel at. I learn a lot from you guys. Thanks.
I'm playing on PS4 since it was for free, but the difference between PS4 Vanille (no Add ons) and Modded PC is so huge, that I'm starting to lose intrest in the PS4 Version -.-
Glad to see you’ve been able to work out some of the issues - the base game mechanics are really finicky a lot of the time. The contest build is really cool, and so is the track - I was wondering if it would end up in the series. Good luck sorting out some of the other issues with the industry, but don’t drive yourself crazy. And don’t turn off unlimited money, whatever you do.
I’d love to see the next contest on the side of the river adjacent to Montana. Idk this build location didn’t really do it for me so I didn’t enter even though I entered the last two. I think a more urban competition could be great

Turn "off" redundant warehouses as well as those skyscrapers. Unique buildings take up a lot of maintenance.
the same problem could be why there is barely any traffic
When I first looked at the thumbnail, I thought he brought back the Bordertown series

Idk how easy it would be but if you could have a spot in the dessert where people take their quads and trophy trucks that would be sick!
Add some cargo stations, airports and stuff. That'll increase your export until demand is less in MM.
