It’s funny that I discovered Peter Barakan through his musician brother. The photo of Peter with his beautiful wife in their traditional Japanese wedding kimonos is amazing. As Peter has gotten older he appears more and more Asian.

He does a lot of DJ work in Japan and is also the long-time host of NHK World's, BEGIN Japanology and Japanology Plus. He is a tremendous source of information on jazz and popular music.

This is the first time I've seen Expireneced Broadcaster Peter Barakan when he was this young. I didn't realise he's been doing TV work for quite that long.
During the Beatles years he became notorious for saying a few things about Christianity, but none of them were atheistic statements like “We are alone in the universe” or “god is dead”. No, Lennon said: Christianity would fade into oblivion. The Beatles were more popular than Jesus. (He said this in a rueful way rather than a gloating way) “Jesus was alright, but His disciples were a bit thick”. (i.e. They were a bit unintelligent) He compared the harassment that he and Yoko had to endure with the hardships that Jesus faced, and said that the way things were going “they’re going to crucify me”. He imagined a world where there was no heaven or hell
