Congratulations on accomplishing your goal. The Bay Area has a lot races to choose from. I'd suggest the San Jose Half-marathon. It's flat and fast, also very organised race.

I just saw an ad about this on instagram, thinking about signing up! I’ve never ran a marathon before, but I’ve been training for a while. Luckily I still have plenty of time before November

Maddy, you are a savage 💪🏻 only 33 days to train and getting it done at such a great time is amazing 💯 I’m training for the same half marathon in November - Thank you for helping me prepare 🙏

Awesome; congratulations! Seeing the Golden Gate Bridge so closely must have been an inspiration to you. The post-race "cool-down" seemed righteous as well!

I felt it when you said not to compare to other runners! I was going for a 9:00 min mile average and after 4 miles I was @ 8:30 on average. I had to slow way down to not gas out. It is such a fun course and decided to sign up again for Nov 6th 2022. See you there hopefully!

If anyone is reading this and is in a similar position, 30 days of training will do little to boost your aerobic fitness (especially if that includes a week of taper). On the other hand if you are not in poor health to start you can certainly cross the finish line before the usual cutoff time of 3 hrs.

Hi maddy! Loved you video and congrats!! Thats a really really good pr for 1 month training. Did you run on a weekly basis before that month?

I didn’t, before that I was running maybe once every 1-2 months. I’ve gone through phases over the past few years of running once a week to not at all 😅

Hey Maddy, good job. 33 days of training in prep for a half-marathon, that's a tough gig. I thought I was crazy when training for a half with 60 days out*, but you topped me. Honestly, you did well not to get a serious injury.
*I had foot surgery in October 2020 and felt I had rehabbed enough to attempt my next half, although I knew I wouldn't come anywhere near my PR/PB. But it took away all the pressure and so I enjoyed it more than all the others I've done.
I notice you mentioned in the video that if was frustrating that you had to miss a few days of training due to the weather (raining). Have you considered buying a treadmill (or running on a treadmill at a gym)? I bought one in August 2021 and I have to say it's one of the best investments I've made in my entire life and it's just so bloody satisfying knowing I can smash out a run when the rain is p!ssing down outside. For the record, I bought a NordicTrack Commercial 2450. It also comes with iFit which is an interactive training workout, with trainers all over the world.
The thing I like about a treadmill most, is being able to do an easy long run, but at a consistent pace (and knowing I'm doing it at a consistent pace without variation), but also, progressive long runs finishing the second half faster than the first and typically, finishing the last mile at above goal race pace.

A treadmill would be a great idea! I do live in the city, so I’m not sure I’d have space for it…

@@themaddyco Fair enough. Perhaps a gym then?
