I have a memories of the Etowah yard. My Granddad (named Steve, Train number 351) worked up there and whenever we'd visit, I'd always ask to go see the trains (I had an obsession). One time, nobody was home except me and Steve. He had to go down to the yard for something- maintenance, I don't remember. I was excited and went with him (I was 5, I couldn't be left in a house in the middle of nowhere Tennessee.) I have a memory of him showing me around the yard, and me running around, watching trains, even riding on one before the engineer told me I had to get off. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. its 10 years later and I'm 15. Steve retired 7 years ago had a stroke a year ago and hasn't been the same since the stroke. He was a legend in my book.
Those are great memories no doubt. It's probably best your granddad got out a while ago, things aren't as he left them unfortunately. Sorry to hear about his medical challenges...
Nicely done and put together. So i like to railfan the same line but more north and have a hard time cathcing trains. I like to sit at what i belive is the coniston signal on nicklesville rd/ hwy 136(i think). Is there locals that run this or is it mixed. I can hardly ever catch trains. And how do you find the train number that come through?

I love the W&A I saw 8 trains just like that 6 of which were Southbounds one after another clear signal after clear signal.
