One of Beethoven's most gloriously dramatic vocal compositions, filled witb enchanting, rapturous melodies, impeccably performed by thr Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Claudio Abbado.
Y el finale: Beethoven. Finale Egmont. Bruno Ganz.
I can say I know Egmont overture by heart, but it's this the first time I listen to the included incidental music. My basic German helps me a little, still I would need subtitles. Oh, I am so sorry for Bruno Ganz. I loved him in Downfall. RIP, Bruno! You live in our hearts!
Nope. That name comes from the title Earl of Egmont. That was the title that the first lord of the admirality held at the time the mountain was named by James Cook. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_of_Egmont Coincidantly the Viscount who held that title at the time the mountain was named, died the very year when Beethoven was born.
Well performed under the baton of Abbado, but narration is incomplete. The Lieder are better performed by P. Lorengar adn naration is far more emotive and compelling (as well as complete) by K-J Wussow in the classic London recording conducted by George Szell with Wiener Philharmoniker. To me, this is the definitive recorded performance.
Where can you find the London recording with Wussow and Szell?? I am looking for it since many month. For me, this is the absolutely best version of this "dream combination" of Goethe and Beethoven.

There is no ad ! Maybe it was deleted.
May Ganz rest in peace. Incredibly gifted actor. That's an understatement.
I have seen this with Michael Heltau, even better speaker. Recording available Wiesbadener Staatstheater.
Y el finale: Beethoven. Finale Egmont. Bruno Ganz. Claudio Abbado. Magnífico!!!
I certainly hope that this is rediscovered and performed in this fashion more often ( rather than just the overture or without narration )

@12:48 the greatest passage of music Beethoven ever wrote
Why is this in black and white? The original was broadcast in color.
wonderful.
INSEPERUBLE. PIERDES LA NOCION DE ESTE TIEMPO TAN TRISTE. cARLOS
Awesome.
Magnificent
Awesome and beautyfull, thanks for this music
🙏🙏👏👏
I wonder the volcano in New Zealand Mount Egmont is named after this ?

Beethoven wrote this op 84 from the play Egmont by Johann Von Goethe.

Why is this video not available?
B flat instead of B Not available where? Which country?
B flat instead of B Also, I don't believe you'd be able to comment on the video if it weren't available for viewing. No?
doGreatartistsgrowontrees? I didn't think so either!
doGreatartistsgrowontrees? England
B flat instead of B Well, it is blocked in England then. Sorry to hear. Next time you travel to the States or another European country, try it out.
