what id like to see from you coach is how you fit vs the different flows you might see. hard flow vs fast flow vs split flow, etc. the backers are responsible for gaps for sure but once they make their read how are you teaching them to fill? is back side LB running through or scraping over? etc that kind of stuff.
They are VERY similar. Like he said, the olb is a strong safety type of player. A kid who can hit, cover, and has a lil more size. He can even drop one into cover 2
Yeah, think of defense as families; wide tackle 6, split 44, stack 44, and 4-2-5 are one family. Okie 50, 3-4, 3-5-3, and 3-3-5 are another. 6-1 to 4-3 is a third. The gaps, responsibilities, largely stay the same, just the type of players and how the positions are defined change.
I like them both for different personnel reasons depends on the type of players I have and what we can do well. Are we a big team or a smaller team do we have a lot of bigs or not

I've just one year under my belt as a youth football coach. 12U last year. Please forgive me, but this looks like a 4-4 defense.
