I used to not understand why iPhone users always had the same ringtones and notification tones. You bought an expensive handset and you're gonna use it just like everyone else? Where's the sense of creativity and uniqueness? Now I understand: they don't have much else! Welcome to the most locked down phone ever. You can barely do anything that isn't related to taking calls or texting. iPhones are the perfect corporate phones where you're only supposed to do exactly those two things, but IMO they are terrible daily drivers. Android has its issues, sure, but I will forever daily drive it. What's the point of a super expensive and fast phone if you can't really use it?
@@RGInquisitor On that same track however, I have always bought brand new iPhones, but never the most recent model, usually the oldest that is still on the market (usually 2-3 models old, because I agree, they are stupidly expensive), and keep them for 2-3 years before replacing. My husband buys the latest model samsung every 1-2 years because they start locking up or just plain crashing. And I think it's because of how in-depth the consumer can get into the settings in the android operating system. I feel like that "freedom" leaves more room for you to royally screw up the processing in some situations because you don't fully understand what you're actually changing and affecting, because you're not an IT expert. I feel like Apple giving consumers only high level access and nothing in-depth just keeps everything running smoothly. Like I'm actually pretty good with technology (I literally manage a salesforce based CRM system as my daily job) and I had to factory reset my daughter's android tablet once because it stopped working and I couldn't figure out which setting I messed up. Worked fine after the reset and I just never messed with the settings after that.
That’s hardly a special feature. What I want is to assign specific notification sounds to specific apps - so I can know what app is trying to get my attention without looking at the phone. O well.
I found the specific file in the ringtone folder - so went Settings etc mail app - find "rooster" and click; I think I also may have re-booted at some stage!!

thing is, custom sound has been exported, its showing in custom list. but unable to apply within apps. like i trieed to apply one in whatsapp, but within whatsapp when trying to cange the soud, the exported sound is not reflecting wihin alert sounds there. any fix for that?
This feature was already there in iOS 16.0.3. I remember having custom notification sound on my iPhone 11 Pro in 2022. Recently i bought iPhone 13 on iOS 17.0.1 and quickly noticed the fact, that this option is no more. So basically they gave back something what was already earlier and then they removed it …. Kinda weird, but not the first time Apple doing weird things so …
After scouring the various forums etc - I gave this a last resort shot - and wouldn't you know it - IT worked!! 4 very specific files ex Android now converted and stored on the iPhone 12 pro and a personal sound has been attached to txt / email / signal / + call ringtones!! Back to how it was on the old LG3+ ph!! Thanks - this worked a super treat!! ( a link of this ought to be posted on the various forums!?!?!)

The garage band method to use custom ringtones has been available for some years now. I really don’t see the big deal about custom ringtones being added like we it was never available?
Yep , the method has been available, but only for ringtones. But now, the default sounds also can be changed, which I personally really like because it annoyed me that every other iOS user has the same around me… Anyhow, it is a nice update but it came to iOS way too late

So you till can't change let's say the default notification sound for Instagram only or WhatsApp? That's what we want from Apple. Not this. I have always been able to do this since forever.

He made a custom ringtone called “Custom Notifications” to trick you, you can export track from GarageBand with same name to prove it

Unfortunately you can't set this on WhatsApp you still have to configure each chat individually very sad
