Why is salt and charcoal added to earthing pits??

Salt increases conductivity in the soil to allow electric charges to dispase fast if there are extra charges. And charcoal absorbs moisture thus keeping the the environment dump and reduces resistance. This allows electric charges to move faster into the ground. For more info John will elaborate
