Despite its name, a peacock pheasant is neither a peafowl or a pheasant, peacock pheasants are members of the genus Polyplectron, there are eight different species of peacock pheasant, the closest living relatives of peacock pheasants are the crimson-headed partridge (Haematortyx Sanguiniceps) and the african forest partridges (genus Tropicoperdix), they all belong to the tribe Polyplectronini within the subfamily Pavoninae and the family Gallidae.

They have been in captivity and reproduced in the U.S. first at the aviaries of V.Denton [now passed] at the aviaries Dr. and Mary Dam as well as the collection of Mr D. Calvin and finally in Mexico at the collection of Mr Zuno Arcy [forgive any misspellings] - all from the importation of Mr. C. Seville in the 70ies.

I went ahead and checked. Its a relative but not this species, the state bird of Himachal Pradesh is the western tragopan, which is even more colourful than the species in the video!

Interesting it is near-endemic now, but still endemic to the whole Borneo(new confirmed recent records in Sabah Borneo) ! But I still recall a certain Nature reserve in Kalimantan Timur remains to be the best place to observe them in the wild!
