This is single handedly, the most useful tutorial ever. I am making a female hades costume currently, but have been slow on the approach, due mostly to the fact that I couldn't figure out how to style the wig. I am doing saimichi's version as well. (Ehich btw : yours is stellar!) Thank you so much ..soooo oo much for this. This will help with my Ursula costume too.

Normally i have issues following tutorials that dont have a voice over but this was really clear and you showed all the steps so nicely, i may have to adopt this wig style in a different color for Drag sometime :D

I've been cosplaying Hades for almost 3 years now and I've never really known how to do a wig for him. But if I just tweak some of the stuff you've done for your female version I think I'll be able to mke a good wig for him!

ComedianCosplayer Thank you. As I decided to cosplay hades, I searched the whole internet for a good tutorial and could´nt find anything. So I startet experimen with an old one. The result was not what I have planned so I styled another one.
Yeah. There's really no good tutorials for him at all. I want to make a makeup tutorial for him, but I need to find a better face paint to use. Right now I just have a plain old short lace front that I have styled upwards. I am trying to improve my wig styling.
ComedianCosplayer That´s true. I used the bodypaintcolors from Farbstark, but it is difficult to get a clean painting without an airbrush-maschine. Next time I will try Aqua Cream Make-Up from Kiomi Cosmetics. You can buy it at www.mycostumes.de. Maybe I will do a quick video-make-up tutorial too.

Who knew you could use boiling water to place the hair in for a few seconds to make curls? Definitely learned a bunch of new things with wigs because of this video! Thankyou so much!!

+Alex A (UsagiWhiteNight) For my real hair, I always use a electric curler. You can also use the curlers I used in my tutorial, but you dont need hot water, just a Hairdryer.
The reason why I was asking was because I suck at using curlers and I don't like using things such as straightener and curlers on my hair cause it damage my hair so much, just wondered if there was a natural way of curling it.
+Alex A (UsagiWhiteNight) hmm good question. I dont know a natural way for curling hair, mine is to straight anyway. Curls do not last very long when I do them :/

So I am so grateful I found this. I am going to be using the techniques you showed to make a Flame Princess wig. Do you have any suggestions on how to travel with a wig that is heavily styled like this? I am going to be flying cross country with it.
+Jobie Norris Hi, ohh thats a very good question. I had a 4 hours travel with this wig and a had to restyle some parts after it. Soo I would use a big box for it and leave the wig on a wighead with pins. I would not put the box into a suitcase, better on top of it... so the wighead cannot fall on one site of it :D

I noticed with the two wigs that the one you used to bulk up the lace wig had long bangs. I didn't see weather you used these in the tutorial? Is there a specific placement?

maybe next time instead of boiling water and cold water, you can use a steamer and a can of condensed air help upside down!

Yes, I saw some other cosplayers lately who used a steamer to curl their wigs. I dont have one, but maybe I shoud´ld try that some day.

Ashton Goodnough Hi, I definitly planned to do a make up tutorial for that costume cause a lot of people asked me how I did the body painting and the Make Up. I just don´t now yet when I have the time to wear it again, cause the make up took me 4 hours last time and I needed to people to help me.
What kind of body paint did you use?
I used the colors of farbstark. You can buy them at ebay. Next time I will try the body painting from kiomi (www.mycostumes.de)

Wow this is a really awesome tutorial. I did a Flame Princess cosplay earlier this year (Which is basically the same kind of hair style, just orange) and this would've been so much easier than the way I did it. I used a couple foam pieces to give myself the initial shape, and then glued more wig wefts around them, especially at the base.
Was this wig heavy/weird to wear? B/c I could only wear mine for a few hours before I had to take it off and give my head a break
Hi. jeah I think I know the cosplay you mean. I did a lit of research before I started this cosplay. My hades wig is actually very lightweight so I can wear it all day long. I did one hades wig before, also with a foam base, but I did not like the hairline so I styled this one. At the moment I am working on a bigger wig which has a foam base. I will add a lace hairline later and a full video tutorial on my channel :)
What are the sticks called you were using in the curling process? Also do you have a link for where I can buy some? Thanks!
Quick question you never specified in the video whether you used the hair dryer on cool or heat because obviously you have a heat resistant wig but to set the hair in place for the base I'm not sure which setting was used

Hi! I’m trying this for this years hades cosplay for dragon con. If I make it today will it still hold up for con in 2 weeks. I just want to start with enough time if I mess up to get a new wig. Lol.

How'd you end up storing/transporting the wig so it doesn't get it's styled messed up?
I usually transport them on a styrofoam head in a bucket :D

I like to use cold air to dry hairspray, but hot is also okay as long as its a heat resistant wig and you dont care about loosing curles :D

no you can also use a regular base cap wig as well :) some people just glue a fake hairline which works really good as well

1. I would by extra wefts instead of a second wig, you can buy them at wig-is-fashion or ardawigs, so you can save a lot of time cause you dont have to detach another wig.
2. I used my wig three times now and I definitly need to restyle it. Problem was the transport to the convention and a photoshoot, I didnt had a box which was big enough, so I put it on a wighead and into a bag. Not the best idea! You should definitly use a lot of hairspray (I used three bottles)

I take it your head circumference is 18 inches around? like the styro?
+StevinSto Hi Stevin, yes my wighead is smaller than my real head about 18 inches, my real head about 21,5inches. For wigs with foam core I always cast my real head :D But male wigheads are a good alternative.
Thank you for this tutorial! I'm trying it right now. I just finished cutting apart my cheap wig but I was wondering if I can use the basic wig head I have to style it or if I should find a way to make the wig head bigger and more my head size. Did you alter your wig head at all or just use it as it came?
+Erin Irwin Hi, I used the wig head just the way it came. The expensive Lace front from wigisfashion had some hairclips at the front and also at the back to fix it and you can also make it smaller if necessary.
Thank you! I ended up taping 2 small wash clothes to my wig head to make it a bit bigger so I think it will be fine.

Hi! can i ask if you used the hot setting on the hairdrier? my wig isn't heat reristant but i need to make the bangs similar to these and i'm not sure how...
Hi Angela, I use the medium setting on my blow dryer. But If your wig is not heat resistant at all you should just buy a lot of hair clips and fix everything, so it can dry by air. Just to let you now a lot of wigs are at least heatresistant till 80 degree or something like that, maybe do a heattest first. In my how to curl a synthetic wig I demonstrate how to do it :D

yes you put the wig cap, yes you hide your hair well and secure them away....
but what is the manipulation of this wig to put it on your head?
+Cilou The-Fae Hi, I like to secure my real hair with Got2B Hairspray as well so the little hairs at the back and obove my ears are not show. I also use four seperate pigtails to tie back my hair as straight as possible :D

Hello, I have no idea if youll see this or not considering the video is kind of old but... have you had to travel with this wig? Im thinking of doing this but Id have to fly with it down to Florida so Im hesitating because I dont want to destroy it!

yes i wore this wig about 6 times now and i moved my apartment 3 times since i styled her and i also had to carry it around to cons. I always use a big hat-box and fix it on y styrofoam head with long needle pins
wow this is amazing!! I really want to do this but im worried itll fall down on me cause every time i style a wig up it unravels. do you have any tips? also how do you pull out wig wefts without it all clumping together while taking it out??
+lovemac95 Hi, at the beginning I was worried too. My first try was not as I wanted it to be, so I throw it away and bought a new wig and new hairspray. My tip for high wigs is definitly: STRONG HAIRSPRAY, HAIRDRYER and BOBBY PINS to fix everything. It would be good If you have a second person who can help you putting the wig up your head.
In the video it looks like the wefts do not clumping, but they do -.-* I always use a hairbriúsh after it :)

How long did the process take you?
Hi. Good question. Probably about 7 hours. I did another one before which I don't liked. So I did everything twice. I was so happy that the second try worked out well :D

+Nyla The hades wig is very lightweight and flexible, cause it has no foam or other stuff insight. But I am always afraid putting it on, so a second person helps my with it.
Hiii, about the glue method- do you think it would be okay to use superglue instead of hot glue ? I get really paranoid because sometimes when I use hot glue, it doesn't hold it in place and my costume falls apart.
If it's not possible, what other adhesives do you think are okay to use ? ; v ;
+Kiyamada Hi, hmm I never used superglue. I would do a test at the back of your wig. I am afraid that superglue maybe is to liquid for that, so cover your whole wighead with foil before you start. You can also sew the wefts like I did in this video... but this method takes a lot of time!

Excuse me, i love this tutorial very much, and im planing to cosplay this character next year, and i was wondering what type of body paint/skin paint you used in the photo? or was it photoshopped. Im having trouble finding easy to handle gray paint, as i've delt with Ben Nye's gray paint makeup in the past, it smudges on alot. This is for anyone to answer but i was asking, if anyone has a tutorial for curing ben nye perfectly, or maybe a suggestion for another paint i could use that drys and doesn't rub off as much?
+Overlordnim Hi, I use the Bodypainting Colors of "Farbstark" and use a fine brush to apply them. You need some practice to get a clean look, but I like them so far.
