We have veterans sleeping on the streets, the lower and middle class can’t afford groceries, billions of dollars sent to foreign wars, millions more dollars in aid for illegal immigrants, but we can’t do any better for our seniors on social security? What a disgrace of a government we currently have

My uncle died at 60 before he was eligible to collect his SS, I asked the SS rep what happens to all the money in his account that was deducted from his salary for the past 40 yrs they said “it goes into the bucket” what they meant was the government keeps it. That money shld have been given to his beneficiary or come up with a better alternative so that money isn’t lost or taken by the government.

The low income apartments for the seniors and disabled here just raised the rent from $525 to $725 that’s a 38.10. % increase.

Isn’t that type of housing typically subsidized? In my state, if it’s not rent controlled, then it is subsidized for those who have those types of benefits.

I have relatives in senior apartment complexes and not one of them or any of their friends get what the government calls "AVERAGE" Social Security benefits. Most get around $1,500 a month or less. And whatever they get, it is NEVER what their costs of food, meds, rent and utilities went up. My mom had one prescription that was $300 just for the co-pay! Plus it will only go toward the increase in Medicare premiums.

@@Satjr35031 in order to pay NO Federal Income Tax on SS retirement benefits, your income has to be below $25,000 annually, or $32,000 for joint filers. Given that these numbers haven't been indexed to inflation, today that leaves essentially just low-income earners who would be exempt. I don't know where the $50,000 number comes from.

That’s the wrong approach because you need advocates in govt working toward your needs.
You should :
1. Identify which miserly party is doing this to you. Hint: it’s the party that taxed your benefits in the first place and who keep it underfunded (Republican, Reagan to be specific) and not the one that gave you SS (Democratic party) in the first place.
2. Become an activist with your friends and family and change h the composition of Congress.
That would be true if you and I could hold them accountable but turns out they don't have anyone to answer to once they are "elected" which I simply don't believe that any longer they are placed in office and are merely puppets for the elites

It is probably kind of difficult to raise SS benefits when our country has such huge deficit and debt, but that doesn't seem to keep our government employees from wanting more and actually doing less.

If things keep going up, I'm going to have to drop my Medicare Part B. Can't afford it and still pay for food, insurance, repairs, etc. The worst part, I'm not the only one.

As a disabled American, I can say unequivocally that those of us who are disabled or retired are not only forgotten about or outright ignored. DV get it just as badly or maybe even worse!

That's why the government is lying to us about the inflation rate, it's much higher than 2.5% but they compute it incorrectly to keep the cost-of-living adjustment down to almost nothing. A $48 dollar increase is gone with the first purchase of groceries for the first week. What do they do for the other 3 weeks?
Life taught me decades ago to keep my expectations low. I've yet to be disappointed.
